O, Merlin, you’re as white as the first snow,
prowl regally like feline queen of nine lives.
Wherever I go on my daily errand alone
I don’t feel forlorn, for you're always with me.
You have a cozy bed in my room,
but, every night you sleep beside me.
You climb softly, sit on my drooping shoulders,
or lounge leisurely on my tired thighs,
and caressing you, I feel your magical charm.
As I recline on the sofa, knit a sweater,
you play with the colored woolen balls,
tangled in strands you turn into a weird creature.
At night when all sounds subside,
I lie sleepless alone in the dark,
sense the rhythm of your cat walk.
As I stroke fondly your silky fur,
you respond with purring melodic meow,
I hear as the soothing lullaby tune.
I don’t like people call you my pet,
for you’re like my child, the magical one.
‘Meow..’ a sweet sound filled with charm,
every morning starting out much the same.
Rise and shine, feed me! Get up faster!
Letting me sleep in? It is not reciprocal.
In my kitty’s hands I am mushy broccoli.
Never do I mind spoiling my sweet magician
since he brings me a smile in so many ways.
My sweet kitten full of fetching mayhem,
always on zoom appearing a little bit extra.
Gone with cosmic eyes dark and dilating,
instantly shredding paper balls into confetti.
Claws leave a scar but playtime’s fantastic.
when Merlin
knelte to Æthelstan
he bid'th wealthe
acrosse the lande
an' lo thy King
giveth his hande
presidin' o'er all Albion
from Alfred
in whose shadowe ran
emerg'd the court
of Æthelstan
an' on to rule
the state-ly man
for all the souls of Albion
[This was my first effort for Mystic Rose
rose’s recent ‘Merlin The Magic Cat’
contest. I wasn’t overly keen and it didn’t
have ‘Meow’ in it. I thought I’d deleted it,
but as I found it lurking in my files I thought
I’d share it…]
Merlin was a magic cat
He grew up in a council flat
On a mat is where he sat
In a very pointy hat
Merlin was a fatty cat
But as he had a spell for that
He waved his wand and said “Howzat”
And then was thinner than a gnat
And so to recap…
The cat in a hat on a mat in a flat
Was fat, said, “howzat,” and was thin as a gnat.
Let me tell you a story about
Merlin the Magical Cat
He could conjure up the best magical spells
but couldn't keep himself from being fat
He would eat up
all the treats
and then would go hunt down more
critters and creatures to eat
But he would try his magic
to reduce his gut
but the fat would just
rearrange towards his butt
"Meow, meow, meow!"
he would scream
Why oh why were the laws of nature
so mean!
So he decided to go on
an exercise program
where he would jog and run each day
along side his man
It worked as he grew skinnier
and skinnier
His magic in this instance was not needed
he was the winnier!
Oh, he is a most wonderful cat
Who somehow grew covertly fat
Surprised by the mew
As no litter was due
And HE once again not so fat

I felt a probe of feline eyes
While Merlin stretched on sun-drenched sill;
He mentioned he dislikes cat-guise
And yearned to be a wizard still,
Then, thanking for adopting him,
He scratched his bell-and-collared neck,
Admitting it was not a whim
That brought him on this cross-time-trek.
From sun-filled spot he gave a hop
But clang and tumbled to his face--
I jump, he laughed, but cannot stop,
So wish to be a hawk with grace;
Now come, dear Wart, let's rise and soar
Look down and watch clogged traffic snake,
Behold man's plight: crime, hate, and war,
Don't let this be the world you make …
Alighting in a foggy wood,
Smudged, angry faces chided me:
Pull sword from stone, lad, if you could
And king to us you'll ever be!
How lonely this, my providence,
Gruff crowd, where's Merlin? … tell me how!
Cold hilt in hand, new confidence:
That hawk just swooped and squawked "meow".

One day while cleaning inside my flat,
I screamed upon seeing a horrid rat.
I needed a mouser. While thinking of that,
in front of me there appeared a large cat
as if out of nowhere! Imagine that.
He found the huge rat, then caught it and spat
its dead head and body onto my mat.
Gobsmacked was I when he asked, “Wanna chat?
I’m Merlin. Unlike the Cat in the Hat,
my magic is "meow -good". I’m never a brat!”

The Magic Cat Merlin
Marvellous! The magic cat Merlin
Imported from the city Berlin.
Behaviour typical feline,
owned by my niece Carolyn.
She steps slow silent lifting paw,
but as she needs attention to draw
only raises soft voice meow.
She loves to taste cooked fish-meat not raw.
The magic cat Merlin! Marvellous.
Favourite of Carolyn oblivious.
The cat behaves always curious.
She ignores rats not being furious.
House of Carolyn is free of rats.
Those are driven by presence of cat.
Facing rat, Merlin acts as acrobat
but never hits, only gently pats.
Merlin performs this wonderful magic.
Cool calm nature is simply unique.
Rats are afraid: But end not tragic.
Events turning dramatic or comic.

Merlin The Magic Cat
Contest by Mysic Rose Rose.
His eyes of gold;
peer into my soul
with a milk mustache
he licks his fancy,
torn between two worlds
reality is magical,
says him so
needing to be free,
yet longing for a hand;
to scratch his silky locks
strike while you can
his finicky soul;
dances in the wind
dreaming of playing again
his sorcery is made of stone,
annoyed by your attention
yet never wanting to truly be alone
his meow is a roaring fire;
piercing through the thickest of skulls
biscuits he serves by the claw,
treasuring every chance he gets to fall;
Quit to land on all fours,
he sprints so fast;
you could say he's climbing up doors.
When Merlin meows,
It pulls the piano strings,
A symphony plays,
There is a sequential flow,
A door opens to this world.

Merlin the magic cat
came upon a lazy afternoon to sit on my lap.
He wanted some love meow,
and to avoid the brush somehow.
Merlin the magic cat lives in my house,
and Merlin chases the little toy mouse.
Merlin loves to sit around and nap,
Merlin is my lovable kitty cat.
Twelve midnight on a chilly dark night,
Dead silent, Eerie, and unsettling.
Everyone, of the small town of Serene
Are partying in the town hall.
A Halloween Masquerade Party.
Merlin the cat beams
When he saw the screen door swing open,
Rushes in like a bat on lighting fire
So not to get caught.
On his back feet, dances In tune with the music,
Swinging his arms round,
Moving his head like an Egyptian,
Going a little cra, cra, crazy taking chances
Being the center of attention.
The spotlight shown up close
Reveal the face of the young "Merlin the Magic Cat"
Beaming as he took off his satin black mask.
Up to no good, he casts a love magic spell
To all that were in the town hall.
Seeing his love in his eyes,
Takes a deep breath, " MEOW."
Saunters over
While she strums her rhythm guitar.
Merlin's major weakness,
Beautiful young women of femme fatale
Leads will lead him to his doom.
All because of you.

My mom calls me her little Merlin cat;
because I do some fun tricks and magic;
like when I hid inside the bed box spring
jumping out with a loud "MEOW"_
She thought I disappeared,
but, I had just fallen asleep for hours !
Once, I called 911 on her cell;
so imagine her shock when they arrived;
don't think they believed that "the cat did it"
because, well I had disappeared_
I like to watch TV,
hiding the converter- oh, so angry !
I read the newspaper she likes to say;
but the truth is I like how it crunches;
I touch buttons on the computer keys
and I purr as she swears loudly_
Often, I drink her tea,
rest in cupboards leaping when she opens !

Merlin The Magic Cat
They said they chose Merlin early last month
Because of the colour of his ears,
Yet Merlin’s been stalking the gardens around here
For almost thirty-nine years!
They said magic was a myth, a story, a fable
But he and I both know that’s not the case,
If it were, would you mind explaining
Exactly how a cat ends up on a date?
They said he liked to go hunting at night
Just like any other average tabby.
When I told them last night I met a ‘Merlin’ at a bar
All they said was ‘how uncanny!’
They said magic was a silly concept
Something invented to wow little kids,
Meanwhile, behind them, I’m watching Merlin finish a triple axel
And land gracefully in the splits!
They said lately they kept misplacing things
Like chains, and watches, and rings.
Well, the Merlin who bought me that drink last night
Undoubtedly loved him some bling-bling!
They said magic was imaginary
There was no proof, no way, no how.
Then right there and then Merlin transformed into a man
They screamed ‘Merlin’, he answered ‘MEOW!’
