Love and Trust

Love and trust
By Michelle Morris
31/01/2023

You say "I love you"
But I don't feel your emotions
The words sound trite
Completely hollow

All your sweet words
Mean nothing without action
Time to make an effort
If this is a relationship

For love is what we do
Not only what we say
We can't just play a role
That looks good to anyone

I love you, I miss you
I care for you, I do
But it does truly hurt
When you play it cool

This space grows between us
Emotional distance with time
If we can't be authentic
How can our actions match our lines?

If we love each other
We need to reveal the truth
Be willing to act with faith
Be willing to thought of a fool

True love is rare and precious
We need to treat it with respect
Love and trust with our hearts
Light and hope to our souls invested

The Difference In Love

She is 26 and I'm 36
Yet she makes me feel like we are two generations apart
With the fire in her loins and the magic in her waist
She has a smart mouth
And a spirit for the road
She wants to fly, I'ld rather rest
She wants the music loud and bubbling, I'ld rather play it cool and listen to jazz
She wants to touch and kiss in the theatre, I'ld rather hold hands and whisper sweet nothings
I am losing her, it is been 1 week since we last spoke
When she moved her things and said she was going to find the other life, a man for her time and season
I looked on with total abandon for no matter how much I loved her, I could never be man for the other life...

She is 26, I'm 36, we are same generation, just worlds apart in our views of life and love

Do Men Cry?
(A Paul Callus & Eileen Manassian collaboration)

Are men supposed to show their strength
denying doubts and fears?
Should they pretend to play it cool
concealing all their tears?

When things build up would weakness urge
temptation to give in;
should one betray signs of defeat
because of hurt within?

There is a line where macho ends,
it’s there for all to see.
The mask is ripped and make-up melts;
emotions are set free.

For men are at their strongest point
when they are free to cry.
Why must a man lose confidence
when tears spill from the eye?

For men in touch with feelings are
a treasure trove to find.
Each woman’s dream and deep desire’s
to find one of the kind!

A man who’s strong enough to show
he has a caring side...
well, such a man is sure to be
a woman’s joy and pride.

Premium Member Icebox Days

A seething summer morning in the oil boom trailer park
Oral Roberts on the radio with the gospel told by Mark
The reek of raw petroleum is everywhere around
We little oil trash urchins play marbles on the ground

He drives out here most every day around the hour of nine
Checking all the trailer windows for a little cardboard sign
He parks the canvas-covered truck and dons his leather vest
Throws a tow sack o'er his back and shows his Sunday best

Down the drive comes Danny, on his mighty motor bike
Hanging on the handlebars, his bigger brother Mike
The engine makes a ton of noise, a dandy double stroke
Two baseball cards and clothespins, hitting every spoke

Our ragamuffin gang was gathered, just waiting for the time
To contrive our evil strategy and carry out our crime
“The iceman, the iceman!”, I hear my sisters say
“Y'all be quiet!”, I hiss to them,” You'll give us all away!”

The iceman sidles round the truck and casts the canvas back
Scores a hundred-pounder block and cleaves it with a whack
Tongs the icy burden to his back and laughs at what is left
Chunks and chips of frozen jewels, the targets of our theft

We want so hard to play it cool and act like we don't care
All our mouths fill up with drool and it's tricky not to stare
The iceman winks his eye at me and hides a little grin
Then walks up to the trailer door where mother lets him in

The moment that the door slams shut, the bandits make their play
With eyes lit up, we whoop and shout like kids on holiday
We suck up all the chunks and chips and with our bellies iced
We swagger off to brag about our frosty jewelry heist

It's true we didn't have a lot, perhaps enough to just scrape by
But the visit from the iceman was like Christmas in July
And when I pass through oilfield country, it never ceases to amaze
How the scent of raw petroleum brings back those icebox days

Mr Slick and the Ladies

I stroll into the bar one night, pausing at the door
I smooth these luscious locks back, start to strut my stuff
I see all the ladies looking at me, clearly wanting more
I’m pretty damn perceptive, they couldn’t get enough

It began as quite an uneventful night, out to have a drink
Some sleazy type trips through the door, all in disarray
He tried to play it cool, pausing for effect, I think
Like a car crash they say, I just could not look away

I see one group all googly eyed and checking me out
I lean on a table nearby, wink and flex a muscle
Moving to the bar they watch me, without a doubt
They don’t know it yet but easy pick up is my hustle

He leans on a strangers table, tipping the whole thing
Drinks falling on the ground, angry patrons start to yell
He stumbles to the bar, escaping a near punching
There might be something in his eye too, hard to tell

I hear some jealous guys spilling drinks and talking trash
I ignore them and say, “Hey barkeep, shot of Whiskey!”
I nod at the those lustful ladies, stroke my sweet mustache
I see them staring back, Oh I bet they’re feeling frisky

We hear him call the bartender BoPeep, not sure why
Then he orders a short of whiskers, whatever that meant
He put his hand in some food on the bar as he went by
Because he then wiped it all over his face by accident

I think these ogling gals are finally ready for the show
I sit down beside one and she eagerly leans forward
I talked them up when I see this other hottie I should know
So I cut em loose, with these broads I was bored

He fell into our booth as he stomped on my toes
Bending to hold my aching foot, he’s no Mr. Slick
He slurred some nonsense, spilt some more and off he goes
Then heads to a model in a cutout for a beer ad, what a ….schmuk.

Premium Member You Must Be An Angel

I see you every day and wonder
If it ever could be, between you and me
You light up my day
You have such a glow
You've got me here thinking if it even shows
If you can see me or if you don't
We see what we want, not what we don't

Girl you look like you must be an angel
Girl you look like you love like a devil
Girl you look like you’re tryin’ to see
If we’re meant to be, you and me..
Perfect’s just a word to mean the one
A soft look, a soft smile, a soft laugh in time
Girl you look.. like you must be an angel
Be mine, yeah
Oh baby be mine

I’m tryin’ to say you’re it for me
I’ve fallen for you and it’s easy to see
Oh, I’ll play it cool but I don't know the rules
Not playin’ it safe or afraid I’m a fool
I saw a smile I think said a lot
If I got it right then please don't stop

Girl you look like you must be an angel
Girl you look like you love like a devil
Girl you look like you’re tryin’ to see
If we’re meant to be, just you and me..
Perfect’s just a word to mean the one
A soft look, a soft smile, a soft laugh in time
Girl you look.. like you must be an angel…
Be mine
All mine

Girl you look like you must be an angel
You love like a devil
Thinking of me, we’re meant to be, you and me..
Perfect’s just a word to mean the one
A soft look, a soft smile, a soft laugh in time
Girl you look.. like you must be an angel…
Be mine (Girl you look like you must be an angel)
Baby be mine (Girl you look like you love like a devil)
Oh, I see your glances
Girl please be my lovin’ angel
Girl please be my lovin’ devil
We’re meant to be, just you and me…
Be mine
Oh Baby be mine
Be mine
Baby baby be mine, just mine

Premium Member The Quiet Storm

I feel it all.. the highs, the lows..
The silent grief that never shows.
I smile like I’ve not seen the fire..
But flames still flicker beneath the wire.

I play it cool, a practiced game..
While inside burns a nameless flame.
A storm of thoughts, both sharp and deep..
That churns beneath what looks like sleep.

I’ve danced through hell at a steady pace..
And wore the ashes on my face.
I hinder battles with all my might..
And still, I choose to walk in light.

I don’t just sense.. I see intent..
The words unsaid, the energy spent.
I watch the shift in subtle air..
And feel deceit before it’s there.

A sponge for pain that isn’t mine..
Yet I stay silent, calm, benign.
I carry weight that none can see..
But never let it bury me.

I know the dark, I’ve been its guest..
And laid my head upon its chest.
It whispered truths that left me raw..
But I arose, and still chose more.

So if you think I’m just composed..
A heart untouched, a mind that's closed..
Know this.. I’ve weathered storms unknown..
And built my strength whilst being alone.

I read the room, I feel the spin..
I know the war that hides within.
Yet still I lead with courage, not spite..
A quiet storm that walks in light.

As Your Mother

As your mother
I think of you each and every day
You don't have a single sister or brother
Thoughts of you continue to replay
In my head all night long
Wishing you were here
Home with me where you belong
I can't stand not having you near
So many things in my past I regret
If I could I'd go back and undo
There's so many things I wish I could forget
But the best thing to ever happen to me was you
My light when I was surrounded by dark
My strength whenever I felt weak
When I'm with you in my eyes there is a spark
In my life you are my highest peak
A love I've never known before
Than the first time I laid eyes on you
I knew there was no one I could ever love more
Never known a love so true
I tried so hard to give you the world
Remembering the first time as if it was only yesterday
Asleep on my chest you curled
There I wish you would've been able to stay
But so many things have happened since then
And maybe one day that I will be able to explain
Nothing about back when
Has done anything but cause me pain
But because of you I continue to fight
Cuz there's nothing in my life I want more
Than to make all these things right
Even though I can't get back all that time with you from before
I can spend every day from here on out
Trying to make everything I can up to you
To show you that it's you my world is all about
And there's nothing in this world I wouldn't do
Cuz you mean everything in the world to me
My first born baby boy
Growing up faster than I can bare to see
The love of my life, my pride and joy
Only four, months away from five
A month later enrolling in school
You are my every reason to strive
When I'm with you I try and play it cool
Though that's not always the easiest thing to do
It's your very smile
That reminds me I do what I do for you
But I know it's been a long while
I'm so much farther than I've ever been
And only get closer to being closer to you
After everything that happened back then
I know in my heart this much is true
You and I will be together again
Some way some how
I will keep you from any more pain
To you I make this vow
Cuz as your mother it's what I must do
After all you've already been thru
I want to prove that what I say is true
Cuz Son there is no one I love more than you!!!!

JUST A GUY WITH THE BLUES

[Verse 1]
Hello, sweet brown-eyed girl
I'm just a guy with the midnight blues
Tryin’ to play it cool, but truth be told
I'm already lost in you

You gave the softest little smile
And I was halfway ‘cross the floor
Had a line in mind, a drink and some time
Maybe walk you out that door

[Chorus]
But girl, you lit up like the sun
Hit me with a look I couldn’t outrun
All my life, I’ve dreamed of this
Was countin’ down to our first kiss… tonight

[Verse 2]
That’s when he walked on by
With that easy charm and confident stride
You turned to him like a song you knew
And I felt the light leave the room

[Chorus 2]
Yeah, those sweet brown eyes
Never even caught these blues
It was just a dream, just a dance in my mind
A love I never got to lose

You smiled like I wasn’t even there
Guess hearts don’t always get to choose
So I’ll be walkin’ home alone tonight
Just a guy with the blues

[Bridge]
Maybe in another life
You’d look up and I’d be right
But fate’s a quiet kind of thief
And hope don’t always stay the night

[Final Chorus]
Now those brown eyes shine for someone new
And I fade back into the view
It’s me and this neon sky
Singin’ truths I can’t deny

Yeah, I’m just a guy with the blues
Still crazy… behind these blues

[Outro]
Just a guy...
With the blues
