Come, now while summer shall shine on your soul,
Leave off the darkness, the doubt and the fear;
Come, now the Earth’s with divinity full,
Leave off the wretched, and cling to the dear;
Come, now forgive, and thus make yourself whole.

A man like me has the best of both worlds.
A life lacking fear and an awesome Li'L Girl.
Never will I be chained, even in slavery.
And, my Li'L Girl turned out to be just like me.
I embrace that as Virginia E.Y. Collins would.
Come up with something that spits out good.
Virginia left her mark and so did I.
I warned ya'll 'bout Meika before I died.
She takes the mantle where my poems leave off.
That Good, God, Granny that'll never be soft.
The best of both worlds might just be my luck.
But when you see her coming take cover and duck.

Into my death I’d delve before I go,
Not out of curiosity per se,
Where, why and how I sure would like to know
To steal a slim chance to cheat my doomsday.
I’d leave off nasty habits, give or take,
I’d drink 8 cups, eat oatmeal, exercise,
I’d say bye to booze but for liver’s sake,
I’d go early to bed, early to rise.
I’d nurture and sustain my mental health,
I’d bury anger issues far aside,
I’d donate generously of my wealth,
By virtues’ pristine mandates I’d abide.
I’d avoid all traffic and derailed trains,
I’d let the crowded cruises go with ease,
I’d pass on risky, defective airplanes,
Goodbye exotic beaches and palm trees.
I’d much rather live hazard free and gay,
All healthy in one piece, body and mind,
I’d laugh in the face of fate if I may -
But from bland boredom most likely I’d die!

Pumpkin straight from my garden is my choice,
With the aroma as it bakes in the oven, I rejoice.
Serve with hot buttered toast, its yum at first bite.
You can add a dollop of sour cream, a real delight.
Its vegetarian. A meal or a snack morning or night.
Leave off the butter and for vegans no sour cream,
You will have created, a gourmet’s culinary dream.
Use Kent pumpkin for yummy soup, no other type.
The family will love it you won’t hear a single gripe.
Don’t waste your yummy pumpkin on Halloween.
First rule of cooking your hands must be clean.
Next I suggest make a big batch to store.
Guaranteed they will be back for more.
There’s lots of kinds of great soups,
Handy for feeding the troops.
Follow my recipe to the letter.
I really think it is better.
I hope you love this pumpkin soup of mine,
I am sure you will think it tastes most divine.

Yesterday Mornings Writings and Warnings
David J Walker
Where did I leave off writing
Yesterday morning in describing
The world around me
Which hue glistened off
The morning dew at sunrise
Which tune did I hear
In the blue of your eyes
It is clear that my world is mine
For the making, each morning a day
For the taking
Which shirt goes best with a positive mood
Which shoes erase the dark brood
Of yesterday’s bad dream failures
With which I am more familiar
For now, the page is pure and clean
The next hour as yet unseen
And I have every right to believe
That I can write about
Something good happening

Spice doesn’t Like me Anymore
David J Walker
Spice doesn’t like me anymore
A taco would be nice
With a little Spanish rice but
Spice doesn’t like me anymore
Some frijoles with grated
cheddar cheese
would be fine but let me
add please,
leave off the jalapeno
cause its just No Bueno
Spice doesn’t like me any more
At one time I could eat it with ease
But now not even Chinese
That Goo goo Guy Pan is for a
Younger man
Cause Spice doesn’t like me anymore
So what am I supposed to eat
That doesn’t have just a little heat
There are very few dips
As good as Salsa and Chips
Too bad
Cause Spice isn’t nice
And nothing will suffice
And it’s hard to think twice
About paying the price
For guacamole with chipotle
Once more
But Spice doesn’t like me
Anymore

When a cake is baked
you put icing on it
but if you bake a cake
and leave off the icing
the cake is good
but not as good,
a family is like a cake
time and patience
goes into it
but you never know
if the cake will fall,
waiting, hoping,praying
that every thing comes out right
the cake is good
but something is missing
cause with out the icing
time, and love that goes into it
the cake can not be enjoyed
now finish the cake
put the icing on
and you can see how much more
the cake can be enjoyed
the cake could be
any part of the family
like the icing, if it was gone
it wouldn't be as sweet
so lets always
keep the icing on our cake......

In those days of wearing face masks,
it makes one think what are we hiding?
even behind these plastic masks, we've a cover
not one we like to admit but it's a real thing
Honestly, our special mask is always on
make sure it shows the best image of me
this mask has different colours and sizes
we control it to show what's to see
Of freedom, we speak of falsely
for wearing any mask were not free
real freedom is to be true to self
hide from no one showing the real me
This is no easy thing to be
remain true despite the odds you face
many will hate you but be singly loyal
stand strong to show you have grace
At the end of the day no less
remember God sees your soul not the face
leave off that mask be true to self
hide no more be free to win your race
So let's ask the question before us
who are you when no one's watching?
learn to be content with ourselves
fly free as a bird no need to catch that bus
(I've written this after being moved and inspired by an article titled ' Who are you when no one's watching' by poet, writer and friend Joanna Stratford)

using Tamerlane verse (Edgar Allen Poe)
As windows on this world get stuck;
disgust demands space on the lip.
Events I have not thought about
reveal hatred, make me upchuck
and fills untrusting minds with doubt.
Men’s base unkindness gets a grip
attacking vision with its whip.
When insult renders reason flat
without question, the end is that.
No hope - political affairs,
instead I offer frequent prayers
and leave off worry, spin and cares.
I probe God’s promise verse by verse
unearth a blessing sans a curse.
To find His voice removes the strain
and clears the fog off windowpane.
Man’s self-control declines with time
suspicion, vitriol are primed.
Determined thought will never still
discourtesy as major cause.
Respect needs willingness to chill
for biased minds feed scruple’s flaws.

The Secret Life of Jessica Rabbit
I’m really not as bad as I appear
Can’t help it if my looks arouse your lust
Inside I’m like a nun with mind austere
So leave off all that gazing at my bust
I have a brain that’ s rated high IQ
Could be rocket scientist for one
Though may look like I’m in a burlesque
I solve complex equations just for fun
I paint pictures of wee bunny rabbits
And then I go and cook granny’s dinner
With frame to get a monk in bad habits
I’m truly more a saint, than a sinner
So as a ‘toonl I protest and I mourn
Not really bad it’s just the way I’m drawn

The best thing about popcorn is its taste,
crunchy, salty, I like mine with butter.
You can buy cheesy, caramel, and sour cream
just to name a few.
Moving along to smell, no time to waste.
Fresh popped, bagged or canned, popcorn's unique.
I think it smells like a movie theater
and like ball games too.
The touch of popcorn? these points I have traced:
it's sometimes hot, then it's warm, and then cold.
It's food for comfort when I'm feeling sad (or glad),
it's not "hard" to eat.
About the sight of popcorn, it's two-faced.
Hard, tiny orange kernels turn into white puffs
it's not very pretty until it is cooked
the magic is heat.
What's there to hear about popcorn but haste.
Listen quickly, it's sizzling, then pop, pop, pop.
like a bunch of firecrackers cut down to size
but don't let it burn.
Now on its pedestal we have it placed,
a standing ovation for this favored treat.
Low in calories (just leave off the butter).
to popcorn I adjourn.

Write an invitation, send it to your friends
“Everyone please come, one and all…
We are going to party, have some fun.”
Include a little note with these lines…
“Leave off the gifts, I don’t want them
Leave off the fancy dresses too”
Please come over just as you are
All I need is your smiling face.
RSVP if you can, and don’t delay
Tell me if you’re bringing a friend.
You really don’t want to miss this one!
Leave it to me to supply the food.
Ice to put in glasses, and chests to
Keep the beer cold. There will be
Even cola, and bottled water too.
There’ll be wine, and also mixed drinks.
Help yourself to dip and chips, and
Even shrimp and little sandwiches.
Rumaki is always a special treat.
Enough food to sink a battleship!
Stand up and dance the calories off!
Never say you are too old to dance;
Old people know how to have fun!
Think of when we once were young
Overdoing too much food and drink.
Most bodies would hurt the next day
OH, but we did have a ball!
Remember how we stayed up all night?
Raise a glass to those who didn’t make it!
One more drink, a song or two, and
We’ll party like there’s no tomorrow!

Mother mine,
Makes me like a child again
How well could grace possess a mortal
And make almost an angel like?
Fond friend,
Swells in me a spring of sweet smiles
How well could I deserve such delight?
Dainty Damsel,
Draws me to delightsome daylight dreams
How well would you ever leave off my thoughts?
Sweet sister,
Soothes my soul with sprightly sayings
How well could one love a man more?
Charming chum
Calms my spirit like cooling stream
How well would I ever cease a prayer for you?
Wonderful wife to be
Wrests my restlessness with your soft spirit
How well would I a grateful heart to God maintain?
