Premium Member Zip Code Hooray

Wearing a snapback on the highway,
cherry-stained lips from a sno-cone.
I fill in the blank ‘Zip code hooray’.

I have been waiting to leave all day.
It’s finally time and my mind is blown,
wearing a snapback on the highway.

Cannot work this hard and not play,
carrying a bag and a palm stone.
I fill in the blank ‘Zip code hooray.’

Oh the thrill of being a runaway,
leading that group or at it alone.
Wearing a snapback on the highway.

Zero knowledge of where to stay,
I’m chasing a cabin and cobblestone.
I fill in the blank ‘Zip code hooray.’

Four tires on fire the world drifts away
as nature swallows my entire phone.
Wearing a snapback on the highway,
I fill in the blank ‘Zip code hooray.’

Premium Member HOORAY for the N-A

Hooray for the N/A
That’s all that I can say
That is N/A as in Not Again
Or N/A as in Nearly Awesome
(but I (the sponsor) didn’t get it
Or it didn’t get me)

Yet, I stand astride poetry's fence
As one who gives and takes offence
At times…to those who do not get my lines.

I sponsor contests, enter some
Some quite serious
Some for fun

And as for the dread of the N/A
I check the stats the very next day
For even in “losing” I always win
For N/A does not mean Never Again

Premium Member Hooray It Is the Elephant Circus

the elephant circus is coming to Kalamazoo!
Kids were so excited, they played hooky too.
Running toward the tent that housed Ellie, the star.
Frog was practicing his tricks, he could play a guitar.

Pig was jumping out of a large red top hat.
Wow! Said some of the felons, what do you think of that?
School teachers were flying in to grab kids by their ears.
Potential students ran off, making jokes and jeers.

What can you do? The elephant said to the teachers.
Why don’t you stay and enjoy the show and our features?
Principal closed the school and there was a loud hooray!
Everyone laughed as mice chased a circus cat that day.

Hooray

With a broken arm, there are many things
That I haven’t quite managed of late,
Like put t-shirts on, reach for shelves up high,
Carry items of any real weight.

Though my husband helps (cutting up my food,
Doing dishes and making the bed)
And my left hand tries to replace the right,
With results quite below par instead…

There are signs of hope, for I now can write,
Do some cleaning and - let’s hear some cheers -
After five long weeks, I feel more like me,
Since my earrings are back in my ears!

Premium Member Hooray

Hooray! Autumn's on full display;
my most favorite sight of all,
is the grand pageantry of Fall.

I feel just like a child at play,
trading my tee shirt for long sleeves;
and jumping in piles of dry leaves.

Fall is a seasonal bouquet
and a splendiferous jewel;
a time for change and renewal.

Orange tones with a gold inlay;
make up the scattered leaf debris,
falling from every bush and tree.

I wish all these colors could stay,
perhaps extend Fall just a bit;
I love the sound and feel of it.

Holding Winter flurries at bay,
Autumn takes on an earthy smell;
derived from all the leaves that fell.

Hooray! Autumn's on full display,
I feel just like a child at play.
Fall is a seasonal bouquet,
orange tones with a gold inlay.
I wish all these colors could stay;
holding Winter flurries at bay.

Premium Member Hooray Shark Week

Shark week on TV and Sheldon was excited as he had ever been.
He got out his pad of paper, his iced tea, his TV Guide and his pen.
He would figure out what channel featured his favorite show and then…
He would sit here, relaxing in his recliner, stirring his iced tea with his fin.

Premium Member Hooray I Am Back

A
dash on
excitement
tender passion
warm my leaden mind;
lavish, pungent perfumes
drift thru torn, intimate halls;
chuckling from the cookhouse table,
our constant, unique, only junction,
drown me amorously…and I am near!

Premium Member Masks Off Hooray

I could not wait to get rid of my mask, kicking it into the street.
Entire elementary school was giddy, getting rid of them was a treat!
We saw the smiles of students we have not seen for an entire year.
I am so glad to tear this mask off, nothing at this point do I fear.

I am not yelling “come and get me Covid” but I feel a bell should ring.
I feel like a real person again, and it makes me happy enough to sing.
We are high-fiving each other, and dancing and skipping toward class.
I hope if they ever want masks again, this awful urge will quickly pass.

Premium Member Hooray For Saint Patricks Day

Hooray for Saint Patrick’s Day
Hooray, hooray for Saint Patrick’s Day
Hubby took steps unaided today
It may be only two
But at last a break through
A shamrock for luck, we’re on our way.

Premium Member Hooray An Extra Day Off

We teachers were eagerly looking forward to Friday March 13th, 2020.
Because at 4:30 our spring vacation was to start – a whole week vacation.
Oh, man! We were excited! A week of rest would be plenty.
But then a robot call told us to tune in to a certain TV station.

We were told not to report to school the next day!
Hip hip hooray! Hip hip hooray!
An extra day off is what most of us thought. What a great thing!
Never realizing what a pandemic could bring.

Hooray

Hooray!

Wet grassy feet fill my soccer cleats.
Hot sweaty teens run fast track meets.

She skis down sugary mountain tops.
He begs his coach to play shortstop.

    Footballs, field goals, fumbles.
    Touchdowns, tackles, tumbles.

My mother keeps warm with hot brown drinks,
as I learn to skate on chilly rinks.

A sadly splintered hockey stick, from a two-quick hat trick.
A winning catch is cradled in a well-loved mitt.

Tiger wins with a hole in one.
Miniature golf is much more fun.

   Double dribble the whistle blows.
   Excitement on the court grows!

Busy balls dunked in their hoops.
"Hooray" the three cheers for the ALLEY -OOP!

Premium Member No Conclusions

No Conclusions***

Can’t figure things out?
Never between
    the lines.
Outside the lanes,
Staying spaced
In gray shadows
Or mist or fog…
Outlying and altering.
Possibly close,or
Beyond
Leaving,
 Below or high.
Yet, wearing
    pseudonyms,
Always being
Lost, then
Re-addressed.
Oscillating.
But, remaining
Persistently
    ambiguous.
Ticking, dangling.
Indefinitely
“Durra lurra loo,
Durra lurra lay,”
Tick-tocking clock
Infinitely
Short morns.
Dragging afternoons.
Cycles of blue moons.
Possibly some
Random hours
    to play. Hooray!
And sing,
“Tick tick toe too,
Geerie oh toe loo.”
A clock eternally
Maybe
Runs…

Glory to God

Premium Member Hooray-

"Hooray! for those quiet voices that channel out the choices,
Hooray! for the harvesters they give birth to the chaos.
In those the sums of life lessons learn reality class courses,
Why weeping mourn for that that is torn love losses.
Hooray!, I say it's okay to be alone in Christ is Okay?"

Hurrah or hooray
Does it matter
How you say,
Or spell the words
On that happy day
When we hear
The dreadful virus
Has gone away
