(Cabin Sunset, summer 2025)
The Heat of the Moment
Settling into our new mountain cabin,
Dogs and humans equally overheated
In the shadeless August afternoon,
The only way to be is naked.
Stuff strewn around
Bed to one side, kitchen the other,
Camp chairs with panting dogs
On an old Persian rug in-between.
Cabin with unfinished interior
Waits for insulation, paneling and flooring,
But in this moment nothing is missing
Except maybe a fan.
No water we haven’t brought,
Nor power not in some kind of rechargeable battery,
Yet we find a strong signal FM station
Playing one classic rock song after another.
And it takes me back to another time
Living as a 70’s teen in the suburbs when FM was king,
Then in the 80’s as a young man off grid in the hills
When a stack of cassettes was all we had or wanted.
Those youthful times, family and friends are long gone
And yet here I am in old age,
Living the good life again with new family and friends
Still rocking on, out of time, out mind.
(8/10/25)
In the heat of the moment you lost your dear friend
With that mean, nasty e-mail you weren't gonna send
You're so quick-tempered and course
Four wives filed for divorce
Your heated moments tore ties which won't mend
10/20/22
wisdom gathers steam
saves it for a rainy day
refreshing the mind
it was just a speck of dust
in her eyes
that made her visualize
a desert of drought
which required
her tears
12th August 2021
Heat of the moment
Hot, sizzling, heat
The moment where the extreme heat burns
Burns down deep
A good burn
Heat tingling
Awakening all senses
Blending of multiple combinations
Working well together
A good curry......or
Demonstration how we should be as people
Working together
It was chilly in the country
So we had to use the heat
To warm up our little weekend place,
Our Pocono retreat.
Electric heat’s expensive
So we only turn it on
When we’re in the house, but it stays off
Most often when we’re gone.
In wintertime, we set it low
Just so the pipes don’t freeze
Even though our bill increases
By a number of degrees.
Now, we’ve had the house for many years
And follow some routines
But at times it seems that aging
Or distraction intervenes.
So today, the first time ever,
Spoiling many lucky streaks,
We forgot to turn the heat off
And we won’t be back for weeks.
With some luck, we’ll reach a neighbor
Or a friend of ours who’ll take
Time to fix the situation
Or we’ll pay for our mistake.
I weave through blazing flames
Fanning my scorching heart
Spinning sparks attempt to tame
Not even a gram of pain subsides
All that is magical gone - my existence torched
A helium filled heart taunting me
Floating high escaping my grasp
As the smoke clears I see
His embers still burns for another
All that is magical gone - my existence torched
.
In the heat of
the moment
Split irrational
decision making
Leaves both
party's concerned
With a deep
sense of regret
In the Heat of the Moment
What do you do when you get in those
awkward positions where you just don’t
know what to do?
I mean, you know that you should
tell, but you’ve been conditioned
by the culture not to.
Snitches are persecuted and ridiculed.
They become outcasts as the masses
disassociate themselves from such a man.
So in the heat of the moment, you stop
and let the madness continue before you.
You try to carry on as if you saw nothing,
but something inside of you tells you that
you should have spoken up about what
you just saw.
passion is like an ice cube...disappears once heated
Penned 20 January 2016
Twisting in to glimpse your chest undulating,
(Mine surges with your ear to my ribs)
A letter framed between fruit, caught the street light
Glitters gold and orange, blurred in the rain windshield;
My fingers run the road on your head,
U-turn as they yield toward the back,
And you shutter, eyes close, neck up,
Lips spread, and gasp while I coast forward.
You pressed hard, harder, to my breast
Carrying my other hand along you seat,
And your fingers twinkled along my arm-
Goosebumps injected through my leg.
You tug at my collar, drawing me in
Until your espresso eyes burned the dashboard‘s time,
And the door opened, defrosting the windows,
Leaving me with perfume and your print on the cushion.
You whisper in my ear
A cold wind sweeps through my body
But soon I become warmed
By your heated embrace
The sweet scent of your breath
Your lips on my neck
Your arms around me
Holding me hostage
You tell me you love me
You say you want me
You kiss my cheek
Burning passion through my skin
I lean up to kiss your face
But you release your embrace
Nothing but darkness
Your love is nothing but a dream
