I am trying to grow old gracefully

Doing my best

Knowing both the pros and cons

Cons, that certainly put me to the test

I try to focus on the positives

Appreciate the gift and beauty of age

Though the ‘con’ l struggle with the most

The aches and pains that take centre stage!

Gracefully Gliding

"gracefully gliding"

he glides gracefully through blue skies
cruising through illumination and color
seen within shadows of radiant suns
unveiled over corners of earth and sea

as he wanders showing a regal existence
such a moment is but for a mere second
unmeasured peace fill bodies and souls
gracing us all who are blessed to see

be it a baby blue bird to the bald eagle
he glides gracefully through blue skies

Premium MemberLetting Go Gracefully

I thought to write you a love poem
and then thought, words need a
little more – so I thought to paint
you a blossom...then thought, a
picture needs an actual scent charming
enough to explore. So I got you a
Corvette, you became the ride of the
town – seldom to see you around…

I think I will think less

good riddance and God bless

Whisper Sweet Harvest Moon

Whisper sweet harvest moon
Cradle me in cooler climes
Softly show me how willingly the tree let's
Its leaves turn from green to gold
The tree does not complain of age and change
The Leaves do not seek to be what they were
They gently grace into reds and yellows
 then browns
The grasses are dressing in green again
like a last glorious dance
The kind pansies are resurrecting
and mums are starting to burst
the sky is sometimes a stubborn grey but
then brilliant blue
New England fall has arrived
Like a wagon filled to the brim
hosting harvest parties
Encouraging long walks in crunchy leaves
down long winding tree-covered paths
out by cranberry bogs cresting in reds
and out on long boardwalks that stretch in woody perfection to the sea
The wild parties of summer drunkenness have departed the shores
The embers of clam bakes and firecrackers are finally at rest
The streets are passable and the merchants are sleeping in late and only open when they want to be
The rains finally came and even the dogs are quiet now
Heaven is on Earth here now
Cape Cod in September

creaking bones, a reality
death, inevitability
yet our heart’s blissful attitude
reflects prayerful fortitude
flowing in geniality

sensing age related decline
life journey as God does assign
let not God-connect zeal reduce

even as love for love does pine

Premium MemberAging , Not So Gracefully

Once my legs were shapely
and my knees, they didn't creak.
Once my bones were resilient and strong.
But now they're brittle and weak.

Exercise is in the past now,
I'm winded walking to the door.
The days of all day adventures,
well those days, they are no more.

Getting old is just the pits
in, oh so many ways
and nothing new is happening
in my current day to days.

I have to plan two days ahead
just to get the shopping done.
With no more little side trips
that used to be such fun.

I'm in a rut , I know it ,
but I have no motivation.
I'm much too tired these days
to even go on a vacation.

"I need a rest" is my favourite phrase.
I say it all the time.
But I admit , I'm no longer fit.
No longer in my prime.

So this thing aches and that thing's sore.
It's the way life is today.
So for those of you who still can do,
just get out there and play !

Sally found her hair was turning gray
Looking younger was what she did pray
Alas, hair kept graying
And her heart kept praying
Even though her mane was on display

She wasn’t too keen on the new hair dye
Still decided to give it a try
Weeks later, out came roots
Her hair was in cahoots
Glad she had a touch up to apply

Now that Sally has new hair color
Her hubby often gives a holler
He gets a brand new gal
One he likes to call pal
Because she doesn’t spend his last dollar

Premium MemberGracefully Free Falling

snow rain purple leaves
foam crested waves returning
black night coming down

cardinal landing
shooting star on twilight sky
blooms after summer

overripe berries
beautiful sunset goodbye
splashing waterfalls

avalanche starting
butterflies settling on blooms
weeping willow tears

Premium MemberGracefully Aged

Lines of attraction gather around your face,
as your lips lift like an amusement ride.
Dips and dimples elude learned grace
and your forehead foldings coincide.

Deep rooted paths, like travelled lands
show erupted islands of warm sunspots
golden upon your useful hands,
tough but tender like dried apricots.

Your dove-like spirit is eager to listen
with childlike eyes, renewed and restored,
springing forth with mercy's glisten,
mirroring an image of your walk with the Lord.

Premium MemberOld Age

Yesterday a young boy asked me
in a voice both innocent and bold
“Can you tell me what it’s like old man…
How does it feel…getting old?”

“A lesson on old age.” I smiled.
I’m afraid I cannot teach it.
for how can I speak of old age
when I have yet to reach it?”

Premium MemberHe Was Aging Gracefully

Onlookers remarked that he was aging gracefully
His disposition so sunny, cheerful, upbeat
Making plans for the future with his sweetheart
Taking such pride in his many grandchildren

True, he moved tentatively, pausing more and more
often to rest, breathing in fits and spasms, and betimes
his sentences trailed off into the vapor of the distant past
Then too there were the conversations where you needed
to repeat and repeat yourself, again and again, before
he would finally get it --

But oh, that infectious, wide smile which broke out on his
face when he did get it! Ah, that was a smile well worth
waiting for, indeed -- a smile that brought comfort and
peace to all those around him...

...Who were all the more confounded when he turned
inward, shaking his head, mumbling to himself as
cane-aided, he shuffled and stumbled his way home
'midst the sea of disapproving faces

Growing Old Gracefully

Growing old gracefully isn't about looking
In the mirror every day for a brand new
Wrinkle
That can't be ironed out like a pair of
Pants.
To some growing old it is a very traumatic
Experience.
There are some who don't want the age
Lines of time
That can't be ironed out like a pair of
Pants.
We're suppose to grow old gracefully.
There are some who don't want the age
Lines of time
Which are a part of life.
We're suppose to grow old gracefully,
Live and enjoy the small pleasures
Which are a part of life.
Go outside
Live and enjoy the small pleasures
A transformation will occur.
Go outside
Walk, greet your neighbor, and enjoy
Nature.
A transformation will occur.
To some growing old is a very traumatic
Experience.
Walk, greet your neighbor, and enjoy
Nature.
Growing old gracefully isn't about looking
In the mirror every day for a brand new
Wrinkle.

Gracefully Ageless

We are born
It’s a miracle at best,

From tiny little seeds
Then in God’s hands we rest,

As we grow into our toddler stage
We walk and run and fall,

And then before you know it
We’re a tween and very tall,

Soon we find our self in college
An independant twenty one,

Then we move on to relationships
The single party days are done,

We work through life and time goes by
Managing jobs and mortgage debt,

We try to plan our future best
And children we are soon to get,

The hair is thinning and the weight goes on
As we glance in the mirror a story is told,

If we are lucky many years have gone by
In good health, and grow gracefully old.
