letters

outcasts
orphans
they found home in each other
always together
never far

Distance was never a problem
Two peas in a Pod
those twos
they have been friends since forever
people would pair them up
while they tried to catch the train
life flew by in the same manner

Distance became a problem
she got into science
while he got into art
she was practical
always thinking
he was delusional
always writing
playing pranks
while she got into trouble
trying to get him out
playing keep away with her glasses
while she punches him in the gut

she could bear anything but his tears
while he could bear anything but her anger
losing her, his only fear
Now do you think distance could be an obstacle

writing was his passion
while she was his need
c'mon
letters they wrote everyday
regardless of the weather
Now people will twist it
by saying it was love letters
but should i tell you what was written in them

I am getting married
you better attend

Inner Tyrants

Who are the tyrants within?
The ones from past experiences, yelling opinionated.

Younger Self.
Sitting at a bar,
Yelling jokes and sitting stagnant.

More naive Self.
Stuck in violence,
Accepting anything as love.

Childless Self.
Hopeful but uneducated,
Incapable of understanding eternal love.

Sabotaging Self.
Feeling like the good is closing,
Grasping onto each joyful moment in fear.

Conditional Self.
Requirements to embrace again,
Forgetting how far they've come.

I've met these TYRANTS...
I've sat along side them in empathy,
Who am I, accepting them again?

You're not alone

Whenever you're sad and blue
There is one thing you should do
Reach out for me -- I'll be there
It doesn't matter when or where
You can always count on me
A true friend is what I'll be

It was a class about public speaking.
I stood at the podium and froze,
Completely FORGETTING what to say.
That's a MEMORY I wish I could FORGET.

I was not more than twelve years old when
A mean man viciously shot and killed my dog.
It's a MEMORY that I wish I could FORGET.

Loved ones and friends are gifts from God.
Some things were made for MEMORIES.
I will never FORGET such blessed gifts.

On the sports side of things, MEMORY is
A very pleasing commodity to have. When
I was 13, I scored 4 points in a basket ball
Game that turned our team around. We
Then won that game. A game that I will
Never FORGET.

Surely the ability to recall is a gift from God.
'FORGETTING' is sometimes a blessing also.
Even God made a promise of FORGETTING.
He promised to forgive and FORGET our sins.
This, without a doubt, I will never FORGET.

When storms get tumultuous and
Shadows press on your mind.

I stay on my toes, never slithering
From my stance.

I talk to you strong until your
Lights aligned

And walk you through whatever
Predicament.

I keep your self- beliefs loaded

And shield your inner vigor

Best Friend Poem

A best friend is one of the purest forms of love
Not just one thing nah they be all of the above
That's the flower stepping out of the dirt
Because,
They ain't a real bestie if it's never been muddy
Water over dark or boiling emotions
I'm talking the one that's seen your tears ocean
As well as your smiles explosion
Inside jokes got us laughing outside the body
When we're together it's more than motion
That tag team be an undefeated potent
I'm talking poetic words spoken
I start the sentence you finish
Best friend language is never broken
Chemistry so good they think it's stolen
That's my partner in crime, call us
Bonnie and Clyde, we're forever in our prime
Our relationship could never have dime or time
Constraints, because when it's real
It's love and that's the definition of a sublime you can't rank
I'm talking a bond that's chemical
Call us ionic and iconic, ironic
But that's just God's sense of humor
So I know we're divine
So go ahead and try
To separate the Ne-on from our shine
p.s. you can't and that's not even the best part...

I’m prepping for school
the unglamorous labour
that builds a future

I like to read people's ‘back to college’ lists - where I can sample what students are buying this year. I find these lists on college-ish websites like ‘Her Campus.’ The number one desire this year is for Apple Air Pods (I certainly love MY AirPod 4s).

We read in silence,
both contented this counted
as togetherness

Beside lists there are surveys on trends.
“Good news,” I announced to Peter, who was sitting next to me, “hot, weird guys are in,” I said it with the satisfaction of someone whose personal choice has been validated by GenZ.
“I still don’t want one,” he says blandly.

Looking at a list of 'questions for your boyfriend,' I asked,
“If you had to change one thing about me, what would it be?”
“Well, you could lose the clothes,” he suggested, helpfully.

No one cares
but I like his hairs
not one more than another
but his left ear
is superior to the other
you heard it here

A song for this:
Young Folks by Peter Bjorn and John

August sunset

You make my head sway, my eyes not blink looking amongst the sea of people you walk in- As I pretend to go for a drink.

But we are distant. Seasons have passed, flowers bloomed and died so fast and I’m happy when I’m away from you. But the season of unknown makes me physically sick to the only and bare sight of you.

You choose to be this way. Then why don’t I get to choose to be careless of you looking away? To stop the sway. Let it all go. Why do you still control how I feel?, even when you don’t know. The way I feel- For something so long gone that maybe it was never even real.

You managed to crush my healed heart with just silence. And I wonder how much longer I’ll live with its violence. The guilt of hurting you is hurting me too, for not seeing all the things you did and what you indirectly put me through. Left me in torment and despair, to drown, not swim, not sway, to perish away.

All I wanted was for us to remain friends, I’ve been vulnerable and honest- and I think ,so far, it was my biggest regret -for never have I felt more humiliated in an August sunset.

My Friends Became Goddesses

The women
I know now
are all very
beautiful
kind, gentle,
intelligent
and brave,
but also
very tough.

I am glad
that I can
always count
on them to
gently
let me know
when I am
not being kind
to my own
mind enough.

Holding
one another
accountable
is our shared
distinct way
of showing
the depths
and the
intensity
of our love.

Trick Questions

Our heads are round
so our thoughts can
change direction- but
that sometimes means
going around and around
in never ending circles

we can start again any time
Distance and time permitting
unless we punch a hole in these
distant walls that are separating us

I truly want to see her again and again
I really do remember her and regret
ever saying that I don't

Trick questions sometimes get wrong answers
Especially on bright sunny days regardless
of location and time of year

Premium Member Thank You

"To every thing there is a season,
and a time to every purpose
under the heaven:" Eccl. 3:1

I don't rightly know.
I might have said it before.
But it might be time for more.
Saying 'thank you' is never a chore.

Anyway, I am amazed by you.
I am encouraged by you.
I am enriched by you.
I am inspired by you.
I am enabled by you.

When I needed a place
To post my muse,
You were there.
And not once did you refuse
To post my expressions.
You became a real blessing.

I never knew there was such
A haven of rest like you;
Such a 'sponging place' to draw
From me my very best.

I believe that God is using you
To aid me in discovering me;
To complete my life's puzzle,
Little by little, piece by piece;
To provide the assist I dearly
Needed to complete my purpose.

To Poetry Soup and my fellow soupers,
'Thank you' for being such real troopers.

Arms entwined
Body pressed against body
Lips engaging lips
Thighs in a bind-
I cannot turn away- so -
Instead, I say, " Will you two, please get a room"

"The Hay(na)ku is a 21st century poetic form designed by Eileen R. Tabios, a Filipino-American poet, fiction writer, artist. The form, which Tabios first called Filipino Haiku, is described by Eileen in an interesting history of hay(na)ku. Inspired by Tabios’ Counting Journal, lately I’ve been writing a hay(na)ku each day in my planner after the day, a quick, tiny and fun way to recap a memorable event or emotion." - - Denise Krebs
Traditionally, Hay(na)ku have:
3 lines
A total of 6 words – 1 in the first, 2 in the second, and 3 in the third
No syllable, rhythm, or meter constraints.
You can also write reverse hay(na)kus.

Can you Blame Me

I honestly can't help the way make me feel,
My feelings for you don't seem real.

I like how we can talk, play, pray, cuddle and just chill,
It's something about the way you love me that makes my heart feel healed.

You calm my mind and body with your touch,
I cherish how you have me mesmerized,
Giving me butterflies and that's why I love you so much.

When you're not around me it makes me feel sad,
It's funny because you're the best thing I've ever had.

I want to do LIFE with you and GROW old together,
Please tell me you feel the same way and you want me to be yours FOREVER!!!
