A vibrant spark of cardinal red,
In Washington state, where the firs are spread.
I'd fly over mountains and through the deep mist,
To find my grandfather, I couldn't resist!
I'd land on his porch on a wet, rainy day,
With a bright crimson coat to chase shadows away.
He'd be cozy inside, with his coffee in hand,
And he'd stare at this bird from a very far land.
I'd tap on the glass with my shiny black beak,
Then fluff up my feathers and cheerfully speak–
With a high, whistling tune, maybe
"tweet-tweet-t-woo!"
A whimsical visit especially for you!
The one you’ll always remember and the one you’ll never name,
The one you’ll tell your kids about and say “he’s the one that got away,”
Etched in deep memory and feeling a quiet pain,
You love like forever.
You love to stay.
If only tears could wash away the pain
or fill the empty pit that sudden loss creates
If that were true then this old heart
would numb with overflowing
This hole which resonates inside
seems vast and never-ending
At every turn, the memories
are all that I can see
If only tears could bring back just a blink
of one more minute
of one more touch and one more kiss
you’d be here evermore
But tears are only water filled of love
and reminiscing
And though a sweet release
they can but only fill the sea
For my sweet Monte

I
was lost
in the waves
of a black sea
surfing with battles,
when I saw you
at first time,
love was
you
Forget-Me-Not For Rico Leffanta
Poets love defines as does your photography
Screening feme fatal like it's a mammography
Blissful images erected
Virility unaffected
Observing what nature offers in demography
Hang loose Rico!
Mahalo
i see your beautiful smile
on the face of a stranger
i hear your soft voice
in the whistling wind
of my restless mind
i hear your soothing laughter
in the mingled noises
of a boisterous day
i hear your heartbeat
in the heavy thumping
of my aching heart
this love!
Bubblicious, not Bubble Yum
was my dad's favorite bubble gum.
Outperforming the second best,
on the coffee table it would rest
like a power nap between meals.
(Just one of dad's daily ordeals.)
Chomp, chomp, he'd continue the same,
whether reading or watching a ball game.
Again, it'd rest on the coffee table
while he'd jog, both strong and stable.
Not behind ears, where hair could cling,
not stuck on plates or any such thing.
On the coffee table it would be
as comfortable as family.
Grum, grum, upon the gum he'd graze,
each piece lasting two whole days.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Long, the coffee table's been laid bare,
save waxy steaks and a vacant stare.
Can you give us another try? I miss you.
Only you can soothe my aching heart.
My mind is searching for peace; I'm so blue,
I long to see your face; let's make a new start.
Nothing felt like home until you; you're my center.
Give me the chance to win your heart again.
Baby, you're so kind; you were a good mentor,
Always so positive, you uplift and don't drain.
Can you imagine our happy ending, my love?
Keep the front porch light on; I'm almost there.
Honey, we fit together like hand and glove,
October would've been two years; you're my air.
My fear caused me to run; absence is not fun,
Each second apart hurts, because you're the one.
Third Place Winner
The ripple in the calm stream
The cold air in the sun
The nightjar or the owl scream
The silence you begun
The creaking door in the night
Soft footsteps in the dark
The movement of something out of sight
The wrong shadow in the park
I turn because I sense you there
Even though you can’t be seen
The knowledge that I know you care.
Makes me sleep easy in my dreams
Quicken, I beseech thee, my languished loveR!
Comfort my mourning heart with hastE.
Melt like summer sweat upon my breasT.
Wick of my lantern, again sparkest thoU?
Let doting lines gush from our hearts foreveR.
Call open the renowned regal curtaiN.
Let us savor ambrosia lips like a costly treaT.
Play me with passion like a prodigy on pianO.
Cast thy smile upon my body like a sunbeaM.
Revive thy marble eyes and marvel at lovE!
Night
Clear sky
Broken Moon
Cats eyes
Comes too soon
Night
Dark room
Thoughts turn into dreams
The mind's eye looms
Nothing is quite what it seems
Night
Different sounds
Heart beat slows down
Pulse quickens as temperature falls
Strange feeling here
Night hunter calls
Night
I see in the dark
My hair stands straight
Moisture settles on my palms
My muscles ache
I see your face
Night
Somehow I know
You're holding back
Refusing to go
Night
You watch me sleep
You guard my soul
You wait for me
Just a heart shaped photograph
A symbol of your love
I wore it on our wedding day
Sadly, all that remains
Just a heart shaped photograph
I’d be at your side in a heartbeat
I know you’d understand
Just to see your sweet smile
I’d gently take your hand
Tell you all my deepest thoughts
From far across the sea
All you simply need to do
Is say that you need me ...
I’ll be at your side in a heartbeat
I miss you my love
For we are apart
Far across the seas
I pray will we meet
Sweep me off my feet
Lonely days pass
Sad tears now flow
I need some news
Ease my sorrow
My true love
Hear my plea
Come to me
I won’t
Give up
Hope
What was once a matching pair are now so very far apart
You hold one key, I hold the other, you are forever in my heart
I use the key daily, and it always reminds me of you
A gift unique and special and I know you use yours too
