Late at night, you came home drunk

I heard you and Mommy talking

You came and pulled me out of bed by the hair

You beat me in the passage until I bled
Not the first time
I was not allowed to cry, mop up

The first time you kissed me, it was such a shock

The first time you kissed me, it was such a shock,
I literally saw time stop on the old kitchen clock.
But before you accuse me of over-the-top flattery,
let me assure you, it turned out to be just a dead battery.
And once replaced, time started again with the same old tick-tock.

Two people on the beach in Malibu
gazed at the ocean linking their two lands.
One of them was me.  One of them was you.
To a drumbeat, deep, we were joining hands.  

The waves and the rhythm of our young hearts
kept time to a flowering melody,
punctuated by cautious stops and starts,
lovely point and counterpoint by

first time being homeless

I am not sure where to go first
I have not taken much
just what I could fit into two backpacks
One of them gets heavy
