Premium MemberA Plea to the Dry Guys

Moving like moonlight
I am the OG silver surfer
Fleshwalkers, Dry Guys, Land Livers,
Have been around for,
What, 300,000 years?
Try 20 million years.

We eat stingrays.
Literally. For breakfast.
I have a 360 degree field of vision.
What's directly in front of me?
Don't ask.

Listen, Humanoids,
I'm delivering this plea
To your nearest post office.
Luckily I found a stamp
With my photo on it.

The plea is:
We are different from the other sharks
(Uhh: other sharks don't use post offices)
And are undeserved of their
Ruthless, roguish, reputation.

Yes, we are younger
Than our arrow-headed brethren
(Just 400 million years younger.)
But our brains are bigger.
Evidenced by our lack of interest
In Walky-Talky interaction.

Check your stats.
Us Real Heads are considered
"Shy" among you. Right.
You wouldn't believe
The number of karaoke
Joints down here.

The moon now
Has dipped down
From the world of air
While the sun has made it's rise.

I'm starting to tan in the shallows
A tad too much for my taste.
Stay safe, sentient skin slickers!
I must be one my way now
At 20-25 miles per hour.

Faith

Faith is believing
without question
in something
that cannot be proven to exist
for which there is
no proof
that it does indeed exist
I believe
therefore
it must be true
it must exist
further proof
is evidenced by the millions who believe as I do
we cannot all be wrong
those who do not believe
are mistaken
misguided
blinded to the truth
and must prove
that it doesn’t exist
how quaint
there being no proof
that it doesn’t exist
is proof that it does exist
circular logic springs to mind
proof of its existence
lies in the unshakable belief
that it does exist
even though
it cannot be seen, held or touched
and never has been
seen, held or touched
it does exist
I believe that it exists
and therefore it must exist
faith
what a truly wondrous and comforting thing it is
for those who believe.

Rose Garden

Why art
Why do some lines
Some colors
Or some lyrics
Make us feel so alive

I always believed
That artists held some unique vision
They saw the world
But thought of themselves
Thought of our humanity

They built a rose garden
First in their mind’s backyard
Then into a vibrant park
Each piece another bush
Of ethereal grace
Grown from the rainy days
Of which there were plenty it seems
Our walking path being touched
By the overgrowth

As we construct our own gardens
And stroll through one another
May we think back to the time passed
Evidenced by surrounding flowers
We’ll look back and around
At the beauty born from rough times
To find that on those stormy days

We did great

Jack 91

Joyful memories surface, every once in a while
Evidenced by bright eyes and a half formed smile

Catching special moments previously enjoyed
Helping to soften an ever increasing void

The magic of retrieving such gold from the past
Trying to focus on the now and not worry how long it may last

Premium MemberThe Night Sky

Almost single-handedly, moon conquers the night
Although the stars, taken together, shine so bright,
Give to the moon most precedence, evenhandedly
Moon conquers the night, almost single-handedly.

The moon in all its glory, the naked eye can see
While nearest stars, I’m afraid, are too far for me,
Though the most distant star has its very own story
The naked eye can see, the moon in all its glory.

Indeed, I stand in awe, of the heaven’s vast array
To stand and peer upward at the end of a long day
So mysterious the length and breadth of its draw
Of the heaven’s vast array, indeed, I stand in awe.

I love the night sky, filled with wonder and mystery
Evidenced from the beginning of human history,
Ere man could comprehend, [or even begin to try]
Filled with wonder and mystery, I love the night sky.

Premium MemberAustalian Lyrebird

Raymond Littlejohn’s favorite bird to study was the lyrebird.
He was an amateur ornithologist who recorded their sounds in the 60’s
They are also called peacock-wrens and Australian birds of paradise
They reside from southern Victoria to south-eastern Queensland.

Their heritage dates back fifteen million years as evidenced by fossils
Lyrebirds have an impressive ability to mimic natural and artificial sounds
True beauty of the male’s huge tail appears when he is in courting mode.
They are one of Australia’s natural resources, and magical in many ways.

Green Acres

Named for Oliver Wendell Holmes, he makes the rash decision to leave his successful law practice and pursue his lifelong dream of being a farmer, despite having no real-world knowledge or experience, as evidenced by him doing farm chores while wearing a three-piece suit
Lisa Douglas living with her father, the deposed King of Hungary. Pampered by her wealthy family, her skewed world view and domestic ignorance provide fertile ground for recurring gags.

A hole was found in the girl's locker room wall
Policemen are looking into it!!! They've got the wherewithal
To take advantage of their role
Upholding justice is their goal
But boys will be boys as evidenced by policemen's balls

A Free Worm

Poetry, look!
A free worm* crawls on you hand!

The French always tended to invent
all sorts of nasty things:
freedom, equality, fraternity,
French fries, free verse.
When I was a small and ardent poet,
I worshipped rhymes
and denied a free verse the right to be called
poetry.
With time I grew up and cooled down,
as evidenced by the lack of rhymes herein.

Don't swat! Let it crawl.
Give the worm a chance to turn into
a butterfly.

* “Free verse” is derived from the French “vers libre” which can be translated as “free worm”, (fr.) ver – worm.

Real Life Repeats

Down in the dumps
Ducks drop in dams
Design the due in daily dots
Documentary life dreamt as a slept dog.

Do or die
Doesn't go down
Deplete or defunct
Dim fights betrayal in doo-wop
Dancing daily in dams
Daily bread, daily living.

Right as rain
Remembering the rainfall drops
Real green relaxes under the rules
The rule of evidenced remedies
The ribs remember the rigs
Ro-setta stone coins
Real life repeats.

A Teacher Called Marty

There once was a teacher called Marty
Who taught each class as if it was a big party.
With a sax he explained he was jazzy
If there was doubt he would get sassy.

His style had students in the palm of his hand
Like a party of people vibing off a rock band.
Oh it didn't stop there
As he explained grammar without care
Students came from far and wide
They forked out a hefty travel fare
Marty's originality brought them there.

He was warm and compassionate
It was evidenced in his nature
With gestures somewhat effeminate.
Immediatly they twigged he's special
Unlocking their world understand the ethical.

Marty didn't care what other people thought
So get just taught and taught and taught
Each day the same way "English let's play!"
To have Marty is what the language sought.

Premium MemberInformation Age Injustice

This hi-tech table set unfolds unfair
For words inscribed to turn romances ripe,
Since just by finger-click can loves compare
Verse penned for they against their archetype.
Alexandria’s tomes are phone condensed
The same as Congress holds its truths we scroll;
And though indignance now is evidenced,
I do confess at times I online stroll.
But seriously - What cruel circumstance!
If mine was paint - sad Lisa’s moans you’d hear!
da Vinci’s grin exclaims I’ve got no chance
To stir feminine swoons, near well as Shakespeare.
   Instead, self-conscious rhymes self-pity lurch,
From fear my muse knows how to Google search.
