(first stanza only for contest)
We hermit crabs smile at our grousing
a crack in my shell needs espousing.
I spy a cigarette;
the filter, perfect fit -
could it cushion my cleft in housing?
If filters could help tummy’s small crack
better shell I won’t have to hijack.
Should I try a quick smoke
while I nit-pick and croak?
Then laziness can get back on track.

Some Choices We Regret
Written: by Miracle Man
2/5/2023
Sometimes in life we will make bad choices,
while believing that some have no escape.
During waning years comes to us voices,
saying, “time don’t allow for life reshape”.
Certain choices we’d thought were forever,
so with mental distress we’re now beset.
Being late in life, one choice we won’t sever,
so declining years contain much regret.
So we spend many hours backward browsing,
searching for a time that might give us hope.
Both were not given to same idea espousing,
so in sorrow we now cling to a knotless rope.

Mother is eighty-seven now
still spry, sometimes naughty,
espousing wisdom from her brow,
her speech never bawdy.
She always dried my tears,
She always calmed my fears,
She always cleaned up smears.
Softly sing a lullaby,
Mother will be leaving nye.

To those who soak up the slanted slop from Fox
Isn’t it time you switched off your black box,
Or, changed to a channel espousing the facts--
All the things your "balanced TV News” surely lacks
I challenge you to listen to Maddow for a week
You’ll get some valuable information you seek,
Not slanted, but grounded in solid research
Straight from a foundation grounded in truth.
[Fox’s martini has entirely too much vermouth!]
Me, I prefer the Evening News with Lester Holt
Giving me a look at what happened today,
Letting me make up my mind on what I think
Not a bunch of talking heads leading me to drink.
CNN I don’t watch so much, I’m delighted to say
I like my evening news cut-and-dried every day,
I don’t particular like their “expert’s” opinions
I am perfectly competent to decide what I think.
How I long for the days of Huntley and Brinkley,
Edward R. Murrow, Walter Cronkite, and their kind
Who knew I can intelligently make up my mind.

To clasp in the arms
To hug the cherish of love encircling and enclosing it with readiness, availing I to hold in the embrace showing a sign of affection
To feel the pressure chest to chest like a girl singing cheek to cheek to a kiss of passion espousing opinions created by nature
This is passion of sharing fortunes, embracing wholeness with containment of something as a constituent
This a scope of statements defining faith and involvement
To accept willingly and enthusiastically, pushing aside traditions and pressing tightly the reunion of sparks
To receive and accept gladly, holding closely boarders of willingness and eagerness

Exceptional times call for exceptional measures
Great leaders know this to be an incontrovertible fact,
Some, making tough decisions, have become treasures
When they bucked pressures, not hesitating to act.
All presidents have sought what is best for America
Although with their decisions many will disagree,
Clearly, most presidents have given their maxima
To keep our country, and all of her citizens, free.
Whatever your particular political persuasion is
Try to see beyond the foibles of the party in power,
Keeping in mind that occasionally anyone can fizz,
Can we not see beyond our own vaulted ivory tower?
We all want to live in the greatest country on earth
Cherishing the values our forefathers fought for,
Let’s all do what we can to enhance America’s worth
And never, never on anyone in need slam the door.
Many have forgotten we all came from immigrants,
Our ancestors who fled persecution and oppression
Will we, I fear, fall to pitiful insurrectionist militants
Eschewing civil voices and espousing illegal aggression?

Independence Day 2021
Miracle Man Thoughts
7/2/2021
The freedom we have has never been free,
yet many in our country are espousing hate.
If things are so bad why don’t they just flee,
with God, our own destiny, we can freely create.
Throughout history men and women have stood,
in the hedges, and for freedom, filled the gap.
Today, many view the government as Robin Hood,
and are seemingly unhappy unless starting a flap.
But as we celebrate this year let each remember,
and count our blessings for the place we live.
Many share a goal of this country to dismember,
and with outstretched hands, are unwilling to give.

Beautiful day for a drive
Ruined when we stop for gas
Polluted by loud offensive music
Espousing lots of anger
I wonder how anyone can listen to this
Let alone share it by having it up so loud
As we drive past this car I notice a crying baby
I imagine her ears and her mind hurt
So sad what is being fed to a child’s spirit
I think of this for a few minutes
Then notice the gorgeous sky
And lean back to fully enjoy a beautiful day

She is adorn in henna blooms
Her lips as red as crimson
Her fragrance fills rooms like pillars of smoke
Perfumed with myrrh and frankincense
Betrothed to One Husband
A marriage of minds
A virgin hard to find
A chaste virgin Bride
She is called to be Holy
Pure and intolerant to sin
A spotless wife without blemish
She bears pleasant fruits, the very best
She has marred her beauty
She has turned away and is gone
She has given in to idolatry
Espousing to another deity
She’s like a leaven that leavens the lump
The Bride in town is corrupted
“Your garment is greatly polluted; you have played the harlot with many lovers,
yet return to me”, says the Lord. Jeremiah 3:1b

The swamp is inhabited
By reptiles without scales, slithering it’s halls.
Many, are totally without morals,
And espousing their Interpretation of the golden rule,
Which is, “do unto others before they do unto you”
Believing they were elected,
To diametrically oppose any view but their own,
Because when God passed out brains
Politicians got a double portion.
Draining the swamp is just a narrative
Sounds good,but it can wait.

Woken from a sound sleep
listening to the walls breathe
sense something new on the cusp
of my imagination island
ears perking up
feel like I am not alone
hear the last five words of a poem
ideas flickering from my bowels
living poetry is difficult
loving poetry easier
I know a spirit guide is here
wanting me to do something
I wait for a sign
poems nestle in my soul heart
covert missives
espousing a truth
I do not recognize
a complete stanza writes herself
in my mind’s eye
I shudder
time to write
my soul knows

An Earther hath said
Adam was a rough draft, Eve
was the final yield
Abel and brother Cain was
the product of their own sin
*The 'Earther' was probably a known feminists as she had a tiny following present along with her. She was outside of a church (she says she's not a member of) espousing the above, constantly, using her natural voice--no loudspeaker, as services were ongoing (I was just a passerby on the way to a funeral nearby). In her repetitious rant, she says that she only wear bras on Sunday's, whereto, 'twas a Sunday and she proved it by wearing her bra outside of her blouse in view of passing children and leering unsaved men. This was in the San Francisco bay area circa 1980, after Moscone/Milk assassinations and Jonestown and prior to acknowledgement of AIDS. They were the saddest years of my life.

The Sixties
By: Tom Wright

In protest
"Hippies" burned our flag.
fashioning clothes
that some wore in drag.
Protesting a "Conflict"
they were not for.
Espousing a slogan
"Make Love Not War".
They gave peace signs
while "Grass" they smoked.
As young men died
they sunned and joked.
Draft cards
many saw fit to burn.
Then said in haste
to Canada we'll turn.
Now criminals
at this day and time.
But upon return
found there was no crime.
Seeing "Old Glory's" treatment
I became quite wroth.
For she's more to me
than Stars & Stripes on cloth.
Our Flag signifies
what America is about.
Always given due respect
when taken down or hung out.
Today, America,
is in deep moral decay.
While there is yet hope
to God, let us pray.
Today, from this carefree,
promiscuous generation.
Comes one Bill Clinton
attempting to lead our great Nation.
While America seems doomed
on Her steep downhill slide.
Pray that God, in His mercy
will once more turn the tide.
If truly for our Nation
the die has been cast.
In respect for what was
I'll fly "Old Glory" half mast.

She is pompous, arrogant,
One sided. Espousing prophetic nonsense
Self-assured for no reason whatsoever
I listen to her internal volcano
Trying to conquer me in one of her landslides
Pushing all judgement aside,
I picture the grim reaper dragging her out by
her hair nodules,
Ah, the screaming! The wonderful way he would
plunk her in an undignified pick-up bed.
She is speaking of Republicans now.
Has she ever met one? Who made her the queen of explanations.
I will shatter her illusions when I help the reaper collect her.
Worst Economics teacher on the face of the planet.
