Exceptional Times Call

Exceptional times call for exceptional measures Great leaders know this to be an incontrovertible fact, Some, making tough decisions, have become treasures When they bucked pressures, not hesitating to act. All presidents have sought what is best for America Although with their decisions many will disagree, Clearly, most presidents have given their maxima To keep our country, and all of her citizens, free. Whatever your particular political persuasion is Try to see beyond the foibles of the party in power, Keeping in mind that occasionally anyone can fizz, Can we not see beyond our own vaulted ivory tower? We all want to live in the greatest country on earth Cherishing the values our forefathers fought for, Let’s all do what we can to enhance America’s worth And never, never on anyone in need slam the door. Many have forgotten we all came from immigrants, Our ancestors who fled persecution and oppression Will we, I fear, fall to pitiful insurrectionist militants Eschewing civil voices and espousing illegal aggression?

Exceptionally interesting poem. I can't help but believe based on your response to Rico that your line of "All presidents" might have an exception or two. I'm curious who are the "pitiful insurrectionist militants" that you fear. I find myself most in agreement with your sentiments regarding "vaulted ivory towers".

Kenneth, unfortunately, we have many insurrectionist militant groups scattered throughout the United States (mostly in the west, I am told) who are anti-democracy and would tear down our government if they could. Some were involved in the January 6th attempt at the U. S. Capitol.

I believe that is true, Rico. I found it very hard to modify my poem to deal with the Trump years. You did it quite well for me. Thanks.
