Disneyland dad bailed years ago, not much to lose
before the child wore his first pair of tennis shoes
ten years later he sweeps in for approval
causing nothing but panic and upheaval
although his ex-wife knows better, she can see
his presence is important to their child, Leroy Lee
She worked three or four jobs simultaneously
To pay for them to live in a walk up on twenty-three
Leroy Lee adores his new found dad who is rich
She keeps her mouth shut, not wanting to be a witch
Disneyland dad has money to show off after all these years
While she had to struggle to never be behind or in arrears.
He is the best, Leroy Lee said, he is a wonderful dad.
Mom keeps her mouth shut, does not out the cad.
Because he is Leroy’s father and Leroy seems to need this.
Disneyland dad swoops in and brings money and bliss.
we went to disneyland
and you are just transported
give me cobblestones, gas lamps and
a passive-aggressive Iron Man

the sign states you must be sober to ride
there is a rhino appearing to pierce the backside
of a white, moustachioed man, escaping up a tree
is it real, or is it more of the woozle fever dream
and our guide steve tells us to not panic
give me resplendence, iridescence
a fantasyland train station
kaleidoscopic and free hot chocolate
with purchased ticket
'Goofy will now light up the Christmas tree
and ensure all our wishes come true.'
i need that horse i've backed to come in,
brain tendencies and uncontrollable anger
purchase a 'non-stop 2-Day Fun Ticket'
to enter the park two days in a row
who's driving this flying umbrella?
with ceiling brushes
or a roller
but it must be midnight, with a full moon
high on vowels
at the local homebase store they ask,
'brushes for ceiling paint or for painting ceilings?'
my son is writing a newspaper
and wants to interview me about
difficult parking spaces
we're going to disneyland next week
let's do the interview on the spinning teacups
where i can rest one arm on the rim,
listless,
in a leather jacket

A STILLED POND
Once a wet playground,
A ducks' and frogs' Disneyland!
Now quiet and stilled:-
Winter is no friend to ponds;
freezing out their livelihoods:-
Their vacation ruined, Disneyland closed, Minnie was having a bad "ear" day.
Did we let you down?
no Disneyland.
Instilled the outside.
Past experience judging decision.
Expectation eliminating comfortable choices.
Listening to old folk voices.
The highway to heaven or hell.
To Leeds.
Playing out wishful imaginings.
It doesn’t stop.
The road is wide.
Keep driving, searching looking for the beautiful people.
Your people.
The true.
The genuine.
The loving.
Embrace them with all the experiences.
Life is there.
When my doctor calls me in, says I’ve got complications,
let’s not blow our savings, on round the world vacations,
my pre-paid funeral, is all that I want planned,
I’ll refuse a fancy cruise, that trip to Disneyland.
There’s not much left, that I want to do,
I just don’t want to die with the bucket list blues.
We’ve travelled the world, and really seen some sights,
I’m so glad we sailed the Nile and saw the Northern Lights,
let’s just find ourselves, a real old fashioned pub.
one that pours a decent pint, and serves up decent grub.

Let’s spare everybody, that sponsored mountain climb,
one last glimpse of Winter Hill, well that would be just fine,
meeting the Beckhams or Windsors? simply not my thing,
I might just tell the grandkids though, how I met Ben E King.
There’s not much left that I want to do,
I just don’t want to die with the bucket list blues...
Chicago, Illinois was his birthplace.
He was a man of the white race.
A move to a small midwestern town,
And an idea for a famous street formed in his crown.
In school, he realized he loved to draw,
Beautiful drawings with crayons his teacher saw.
Taking photographs became the norm,
And ideas for cartoons began to form.
As a young adult, he lived in Kansas City.
His animated films were quite witty.
He made laugh-o-gram sketches,
That were met with great successes!
He moved to California for a fresh start.
Creating cartoon characters became his heart.
Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy too,
Fairy tales, animated movies, and clothes to name a few.
But his work was not done.
He built a theme park so people could have fun!
Disneyland because his creation,
He left a legacy for our nation.
Sing to the tune of Jingle Bell Rock:
Summertime, summertime, summer time rocks.
Summertime comes and kids yell hurrah.
Bikin’ and swimmin’ at some park’s big pool;
in the summertime, no more school!
Summertime, summertime, summertime rocks.
Summertime’s fun when school is all done.
Playin’ and stayin’ in summer time’s mood,
good times are pursued!
Barbecue time is a great time
with family outdoors.
Barbecue time is the best time
to roast hot dogs and to have s’mores!
Oh what fun – here it comes – Fourth of July -
summer time’s big event.
Picnics, parades, and then watchin’ the sky
for the fireworks’ ascent.
Summertime, summertime, summertime rocks.
Summertime comes and kids yell hurrah.
Bikin’ and swimmin’ at some park’s big pool;
in the summertime, no more school!

Summertime’s fun when school is all done.
Playin’ and stayin’ in summer time’s mood,
good times are pursued!
Disneyland or the beach – fun times for all.
Hosing down, lose those socks!
Baseball and snow cones and havin’ a ball.

that’s 'cause summertime rocks!

in a mean way
Oh goody! child says! Disneyland!
She reminds me of a butterfly.

I am in the Alcatraz of my room,
where loneliness is endless
and dreams bounce off all the walls and back.
Never passing through the window into
the streets of letdown dreams.
I would come out to meet you,
but there are too many intersections
and I always cross against the light.
Please come to my room and we will
watch the world through window glass.
And if we become afraid
we will pull down the shade
and I will build you sandcastles on
distant shores, and I will
fly the kite of dreams to Disneyland
and back, and if it rains,
I will paint the sun on your face,
for all this would you love me?
Traveling the mountains of Disneyland
Much higher than those found in Ireland
When you’re drinking ale
It’s like reading braille
And doesn't much matter what car you're in
Life Should Be Like Disneyland
Life should be like Disneyland,
Everyday a little bit of Never Never Land,
Dreams fill your heart,
They give us a new start,
A delightful way to fill the day,
Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse,
Spread happiness your way,
And my way,
They lift you out of the doldrums,
Of everyday life,
All the pain and strife,
But then we get swept away
Into something dreamy,
Cinderella, finds her Prince,
Her slipper is the imprint,
She and the Prince,
Will live happily ever after,
The Prince and Cinderella truly matter,
Life for Pinocchio was a bit trying,
He often did a lot of crying,
But Jimminy Cricket
Showed him the way,
And Pinocchio found happiness
In every day,
So, life in Disneyland
It is so grand,
Life should be a Never, Never Land.

A trip to his park's cause for great celebration
The plaques's spread by such vermin
But I'll spare you the sermon
Disneyland, here I am, on my dream vacation!
