(For all the girls in Kwa-Zulu-Natal)
I am the Dahlia of Durban, a dramatic, dazzling
detonation of pure, palpable power and passion.
My layers are like the waves of the Indian Ocean:
deep, complex, powerful and utterly unstoppable.
I bring the heat of the Durban sun in my petals,
fiery, furious, fabulous display of sheer force.
I do not bloom; I explode into being, shattering
all previous notions of beauty with force.
I am a living, breathing, blazing masterpiece that makes
fireworks seem quite and grey.
To witness me is to surrender to the overwhelming,
outstanding, over- the- top majesty.
your gaze hides a love
entrenched deep within your heart
peeking through the veil
a shy glance that holds my world
like dahlia blooms all seasons
Let me be your dreamcatcher,
Just as you are mine.
My feathers and my beads,
No longer intertwined.
Let me be your moon,
And you can be my star.
Your sun spots and my craters
Make us what we are.

I sing a song that has never been sung before
I Remember all the times we spend writing everything we felt
And still the words have a hard time finding a page
Words can't explain
The love I feel all the times we rose above through trial and error
We never failed to rise to the top
To learn to say the words
All the feeling we felt
And sing this song of love
Dahlia I have found you
I'll never let you go
I'll sing your song so so proud
Oh Dahlia
Oh Dahlia
Dahlia
You are the love of my life
Oh my enchantress dahlia, an inspiration to my muse.
I remember, meticulously planting your bulbs,
so you would bloom in an abundance of colours.
I watched your emerald stalk blossom slowly,
until your sepal gave birth to elegant petals.
Dawn's fresh sun rays glowed to embellish
your myriad tones, glittering with dewdrops.
You flourished in shades of burgundy and ivory,
scarlet with hues of golden saffron and
in tones of amaranth and amethyst.
Your velvet skin so soft and subtle,
seduced bees and butterflies to savour your nectar.
From all the flowers that blessed my oasis,
you were my queen, so gracefully grandeur,
flourishing around my verdant lawn.
How I missed you when Autumn arrived.
Dreaming dahlia delicate and demure
Looking sleepy in solitude, taking a rest
You enhance the garden, showing your pure
Out of all the flowers, I love you the best
rainbow butterfly
ode colors aliferous
possessor of eyes
This spring, pink dahlia blooms
Burst forth in vibrant hues
Their beauty is enough to consume
All who stop to count on their views
Petals soft akin to angel's wings
With shades that dance and play
A symphony of pinks that sing
And brighten up the day
Their centers, golden and bright
A beacon for all to foresee
Drawing in bees and butterflies
To sip nectar and be free
In gardens, fields, and pots they grow
A sight to behold and admire
A reminder that nature's flow
Is a source of beauty, never to tire
So let us stop and bear a pause
To appreciate these gifts of spring
Pink dahlia blooms, with their cause
To bestow joy and happiness, they sing.

Dahlia dreams blooming with the scent of you;
Our sweet Summer adventures I inhale,
luscious moments felt too good to be true;
Through my closed eyes I see every detail,
passing quickly time is so very frail;
The colors in the flowers fading now
as they give way to Fall with a soft bow;
Trapped in the air the season will linger;
An endless heat wave the clock won’t allow
but July nights will warm you in Winter.
You stand there!
With desiring lures!
Captivating,
Flattering and flirting,
Scented fragrances,
Attracting!
Drawing!
Magnetism!
Creating happiness,
Without a word,
You entice,
Reflect
And seduce,
Temperature intensifies,
Your beauty blooms,
Time stands still,
Capturing my heart,
I’m taken!
To a far distant land,
Riding on clouds,
Of heaven.

She flows, flows while petals spread their vibrant blooms
On April's mural , those lips dare to tease...
Her contours trailing with velour costumes
Wildly ablaze, to ride on spring’s trapeze.
This ambrosial drift which shines ,which glows
From heaven’s mold granting dahlia's trance
Enchanting a whirl, my shade of yellows...
Like me, she curls into a floral dance!

The horn section fell off mars
hangin' voodoo tremelos
Crazy eyed jack was there
twitchin' f-stop harmonies
Chandeliers flickered smoke haze
rhythms of green dahlias floating
above 6 minute promises
Amid forever, saturn shifted;
rings penetrated for eternity
Rings penetrated
for eternity

Glazed eyes shrouded
in an ivory face
Dark hair in knotted tangles
A look as haunting
as the Devil himself
Fragile shoulders on
a body like twig
Bowed under the burden
fate has bestowed
Shivering in the summers breeze
Like a leaf, ripped apart
in an August wind
What horrors lie beneath
The ghostly exterior
What sins did those eyes
witness in days gone by
Did the mute voice
scream in terror,
or laugh in glee
Was the there a time
when those shoulders
were held high
And the arms
embraced in love?
Or was it just horror,
pain, deception and lies...
How could the world
twist something so beautiful
Into horrors untold
