For Jay Narain's admire a summer flower poetry contest

Oh my enchantress dahlia, an inspiration to my muse. I remember, meticulously planting your bulbs, so you would bloom in an abundance of colours. I watched your emerald stalk blossom slowly, until your sepal gave birth to elegant petals. Dawn's fresh sun rays glowed to embellish your myriad tones, glittering with dewdrops. You flourished in shades of burgundy and ivory, scarlet with hues of golden saffron and in tones of amaranth and amethyst. Your velvet skin so soft and subtle, seduced bees and butterflies to savour your nectar. From all the flowers that blessed my oasis, you were my queen, so gracefully grandeur, flourishing around my verdant lawn. How I missed you when Autumn arrived.

Hi SO! Congratulations on your win in Jay's contest. I remember my grandmother's dahlias. Your imagery is lyrical "gracefully grandeur," "velvet skin," "enchantress." And I love the way you blend your experience as a gardener plant bulbs with the sense of time passing from spring rebirth, summer maturity to autumn hibernation. You so beautifully express your personal experience. Beautiful word choices of tribute. Sending you blessings as you look forward to your floral harvest!

Beautiful choices of species of the dahlia. I can imagine that you do enjoy them. Do you have to dig them up in the fall and store them inside where there is no danger of them freezing? Thanks for sharing this one with us and for dropping by my page. Sara K

Dahlias are of different shades and shapes. They are so beautiful and add to the elegance of a garden. The first one in the picture is indeed a rare variety. Dahlias bloom in summer and by winter, they will be totally invisible. "Dawn's fresh sun rays glowed to embellish. your myriad tones, glittering with dewdrops." Love these lines. I can visualize the fringes of the petals beaded with glittering dew drops. A lovely entry for the contest. All the Best dear Silent One.

I envy dahlias that have no thorns, and are vibrantly flourishing in gardens such as yours, as im a mere black rose, with thorns thicker than needles! Beautiful poem so well woven and depicts the beauty and the alluring nature of this flower with excellent diction! I love the flow of this and your imagery. Especially love the way youve used alliterations in such a seamless manner! Whatever you write is a poem worthy of all the accolades! Pleasure reading your work! Best wishes for the contest

Dear SO, wonderful poetry expressing the adoration and affection for a particular dahlia blossom that you have cared for and saw blossom. The significance, grace, and beauty of this one flower in the speaker's garden—your thoughts about it were crystal clear. You describe the dahlia's blossoming process in great detail using colorful and evocative language. Lovely and captivating, words like "enchantress," "emerald stalk," "elegant petals," "myriad tones," and "velvet skin" come to mind. Writing sensory imagery, like "glittering with dewdrops," is another way you engage the reader's senses.

Spectacular! I loved the choices you made with spelling and adjectives. I felt I could almost smell the scent of the colors you described so gracefully. A hide away full of bloom and nature's little helpers. The last line was wistful. Xo
