Once upon a time long gone …
The reigning queen let out a yawn,
And stood up from her regal throne
To trample down the hall alone
She ripped the crown from out her hair
And flung it out the window there,
It tumbled down the castle wall …
No knight or king did hear it fall
And off the ground it did bounce
The crown rolled out into a flounce,
Tumbling down into the moat
And thankfully it did not float
A queen no more and yet she smiled
Chuckling, whooping and skipping wild,
Saying goodbye to the castle rafter …
She'd found her happily ever after.

Wholesome humour
reverberates freedom mirth
shared in the family of joy-filled home
making us have a taste of heaven on earth...
Daddy’s jokes champion laughter
easing gloom of loss for triumph-birth
sometimes his riddles keep us chuckling
as his cheerful life enigmas we try to unearth...
Mama’s sense of humour is undeniably funny
letting us praise her midst warmth of fellowship hearth
oh, how I miss those exuberant times
along my reflection of gladness-values' worth.
As we rejoice in the Lord* always
good sense of humour is never a dearth
since it "blunts the sharp blades of reality"
while making us thankful to God for our divine jubilant perth.
*Philippians 4:4 Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice.

A Hard’s Days Night : 3rd Placing
A hard day’s night, boss outta sight
blankets warm, everything’s all right
let’s snuggle, cuddle, no more storm
lovely voice on high, good in form
peace reigns on Earth, after mad work
baby is chuckling, gone is stork
sing to stars and beckoning moon
guitar in right tune, dance like coons

Between us on a park bench.
A pizza box stays a crack open.
Inviting us for another one.
Even when the last slice is all we have.
We flip a coin, which rolls away into the grass.
The wind picks up and we grab the box to carry home.
In the fridge is where we put the slice.
We decided to eat chips and cookies instead.
The way friends do.
I got up at 2:00 am that night.
But she had already eaten it at 1:30.
Chuckling as I grabbed some cheese.
She is watching tv on the couch.
There are no dishes to do.
Which is nice.
So I go back to sleep.
I don’t know why I feel so hungry all the time.
We fought the other day, so she must have dissolved into nothing.
No one has done chores in weeks.
Peeking into her bedroom.
Which is just a closet under the stairwell.
I thought she lived there.
But the spider shook his head.
Getting dizzy.
I need to eat.
Opening the fridge.
A week old pizza slice.
I think I need to do some chores.
In my one bedroom apartment.
Where I try to live.

Cunning cuckoo, craftily creeping,
Cackling, cawing, constantly cheating!
Clocks keep clanging, chiming, churning,
Cuckoo’s call--chaotic, concerning!
Cranky critters, clueless, confused,
Chased the cheater--cleverly bruised!
Cuckoo, chuckling, cheekily flew,
Claiming nests like cuckoos do!
Wouldn’t trust that cuckoo chap--
Crafty con artist with a claptrap trap!

He looked out of his window, chuckling at the thought of tomorrow while pondering the past.
A smile crossed his face, but soon he felt teary-eyed; it was a slow laugh followed by a cry that was fast.
He coyly glanced at his tattered hands,
Reflecting on a time filled with many tilled lands.
Gently he raised his hands to touch the lines above his graying brow.
After a deep inhale, there was a long exhale that followed.
Precious memories that rest in distant corners of his mind
Then there was a whisper; he heard a noble whisper from Father Time.

And how much chuck could a nunchuck chuck if a nunchuck’s Chuck is Norris?
A chuckling nun habitually chucking her habit soon has none.

They had succumbed
Altered their paths

I think I shall write tales for children Christian Anderson said.
Visions of bears, wolves, tigers, roses, and lilies danced through his head.
Sorting them out took an imagination that was rather wild.
He put them into sections – fierce, humble, happy and mild.
The main characters were full of personality beyond his control.
He saw a peacock, dragon, goldfish, opossum and one lying mole.
Plots thick and simple travelled down his dendrite alley.
He began to select names like Furious Phil and Sallow Sill Sally.
The more his imagination was on fire, the happier he became.
Writing the stories down was his ultimate end game.
He was chuckling to himself as he wrote down the story line.
Wow! Said his impressed wife. Your words are so fine!

In solitude with eyes
closed, a bell flashes with a
little girl chuckling, chasing it.
In stillness, silence, the bell starts
tolling and the girl intently stares at it,
eyes beaming with glee and a radiant smile
expressing delight. I opened my eyes, shook my
head, thought of the childlike innocence, the display
of honesty, freedom, enthusiasm and suddenly remembered
my own childhood always excited hearing the church bells tolling
for they meant fun, cheers, good times. Hearing the bell at six o’ clock
in the evening for worship or Angelus prayer at our altar, meant having dinner
with my favorite dish or dessert for dinner was served after our prayers. Hearing
the bells after the morning Easter Sunday procession meant fun in the beach
for everybody went there for fun and lunch to celebrate the Resurrection.
Hearing the bells after the four o’ clock morning masses during the
Christmas season, from December sixteen through
twenty four meant eating delicious
rice cakes at the church
kiosk.

“You have a wicked sense of humour”
Someone recently chided
Twisting what seem like serious events
Into silliness quite one sided
That's why I'm here to lighten things up
Adding sunshine to the group
From the great responses coming my way
It seems everyone's happy as poop
It's a tough job but someone's gotta do it
To counter the doom and gloom
That permeates the airways every day
Whisking them away with my broom
A broom of happiness of very good cheer
Coz life's a very short trip
Just live love and laugh at the world
With a happy-go-lucky skip
“You have a wicked sense of humour”
Had it since I was a young'un
Now decrepit but still chuckling away
Every day is for funnin'

Today's not one of my better days
Even I have 'em every so often
Believe me mine are rarer than most
Will be chuckling even in my coffin
Sure hope it doesn't freak someone out
And another kicks the bucket as well
A single coffin for the price of two
It sure would be cramped as hell
Don't mind sharing but just imagine
If this sweetie was from the opposite sex
Some hanky panky would likely ensue
Some real rockin' 'n rollin' by heck
Mourners would scatter pretty damn quick
As we try our damnedest to get out
Nobody's staying for the final word
Lowering us they'd play “Twist And Shout!”
What silly nonsense can you imagine
That this could actually take place
Certainly they'd give us a box of our own
Or at least place us face to face!

Mellifluous chirps and tweets woke me up.
Heavy sloth still but got out from my suite.
Dew pearls rested on glowing petals, yup!
The tips of wet pasture chuckling my feet.
Soft alluvial soil making a squish
And scent of blooms took me into a trance.
Little plants nodding heads as if to wish.
Rapt spirits turned me a poet by chance.
