We rarely do events at night
But dinner went ‘til after 9,
So new-found friends convinced us
To join in and we could not decline.
A trio played - most songs we knew -
And people boogied to the beat,
Yet even when our friends got up,
I watched them, comfy in my seat.
Until one song demanded that
I get my butt up off the chair
And, drawn by my new buddies,
Hit the dance floor, shy at being there.
But, caught up in the energy
And faces lit with pure delight,
I found forgotten moves I had
And let the rhythm lead me right.
A little dance floor on the ship
Provided the most perfect stage
To reach inside and free some joy
I’d hidden from a prior age.

On the ice where the cold winds blow,
A group of penguins put on a show.
With flippers that flap,
And feet that tap,
They danced in the moonlight's glow.
In tuxedos black and white,
They waltzed all through the night.
With a slide and a glide,
And a spin to the side,
Their moves were quite the sight.
They boogied to the beat of the drum,
Twirling on icebergs just for fun.
With a hop, skip, and jump,
They would thump, thump, thump,
Until the morning sun.
So if you ever feel blue,
Just think of the penguin crew.
With a dance and a prance,
In their icy dance stance,
They'll bring joy to you too!

My knees have helped me always.
From my crawling toddlerhood
To my trike, then 2-wheeled riding,
If I needed them, they would…
Let me walk for many miles,
Help me climb up many stairs;
Do aerobics in a gym class,
Reach for shelves from tops of chairs.
On my knees, I’ve dug and planted
Bulbs so daffodils would grow.
I’ve bent down to tie a thousand shoes,
Scrubbed floors so they would glow.
I have jogged and danced and boogied
And played lots of running sports
And throughout, my knees have given me
The greatest of supports.
But at last, with age advancing,
From some things I must refrain
For my trusty knees have lately
Just provided me with pain.

I think he comes from the Tangerine Sun, she said.
I wondered about this, but she added his name was Tedd.
He’s cool and suave, debonair, fancy, gloriously bright and keen.
I think he’s a star of some kind, a consort to their queen.
I had to see this runway type of an alien guy.
Don’t question my instincts; please don’t ask me why.
He sauntered up to me and asked me to take him to our king.
I told him that I would but his lazars he could not bring.
He put down his weapons, and sauntered toward me in a swishy way.
I wondered what he would be doing to us by the end of today.
He did not make small talk, preferred to sit in silence, being grand.
I asked if he wanted anything. He said “yes, a jazz band.”
So we brought out the band, and they gave him a taste.
Of what our music sounds like. He began to twist at his waist.
He boogied and two-stepped and began hopping around.
He radioed the mother ship “come on down, I have found….”
A wonderful planet that loves orange, and is jazzy.
A place where we can swim, dance, play, and be snazzy.
A bigger ship landed, and fancy aliens came out.
Being fancy and noticed, is what they were all about.

A Halloween party on Zoom
Wouldn’t be too much fun, you’d assume
But you would be dead wrong
For I boogied along
With my daughter in our living room.
All the Zoomers wore costumes and danced
And the camera had each one enhanced
To fill up the whole screen
So each person was seen
As she shimmied; I watched it, entranced.
Every song had a danceable beat
Meant to get people up on their feet.
Some were Halloween themed
With the choices, it seemed,
Leaning less on the trick, more the treat.
Since participants can’t meet for real,
Zoom has obvious proxy appeal
And this special needs group
Got to boogie and whoop
With the joy every square did reveal.

I had the craziest time at the Squigglehawk ball
all the Frazzlefairies were bouncing off the wall,
Jellyfunts were swinging their enormous trunks
as they boogied away with pongalicious skunks
Young Squigglehawks gyrated in the balmy air
wearing pink tutus but their fannies were bare
Their antics created a humderendous kerfuffle
Pa panwongled them all with his wangabuffle!
When their Ma vamished some rainbow gowns
the youngsters claimed they looked like clowns
But they adored their lush spinklerly violet wings
and pogo-loged as if their legs were on springs
Ma Squigglehawk put on a spingle spangle spread
with chumley corn spears and warm glitterpuff bread
Pa Squigglehawk had brewed some honeydew wine
it sparkled like silver moondust and tasted so divine!
I flange wanged in the arms of a fit frazzlefairy
but we had to part when the bong went hairy
The next Squigglehawk ball is Saturday at eight
I can’t wait to wange with my frazzlefairy date

The heebie-jeebies came by to play.
I promptly shooed them straight away.
Come on they said as they jiggled and jived.
But my long-awaited guest had just arrived.
Hey! What is happening? She asked with pure happy.
It’s the heebie-jeebies, kind of fun and sappy.
I recognize them now! She said as she began to dance.
We have them back home in England, Spain and France.
We danced down the sidewalk, onto the round moon.
We boogied so hard, my chest began to quake and swoon.
Heebie-jeebies said “Hey, folks, let’s go to Saturn!”
We shimmy shook; a pretty sweet dancing pattern.
Another dancer asked, “Are we limited to one universe now?”
Heebie-jeebies said “Come. You’ll think this is a wow!”
We jiggled our keisters all the way to another galaxy.
This is how dynamically persuasive Heebie-Jeebies can be!

I was movin' and a groovin'...
At my high school dance
Twist'n and a bump'n...
Wear'n wholly pants
The band had played some music...
I was feelin' kind of stuck
When I saw the kids a dancin'...
To the disco duck
I had to think of somethin'...
Had to show off a little muscle
So I boogied to the middle...
And I twisted to the hustle
In my cowboy boots...
And my hair all curled and long
I tied it in a pony-tail...
As I danced to ev'ry song
I really set the tone...
When my heels had started click'n
When they played some funky music
And I did the funky chicken
(The dances- Twist, Bump, Disco Duck, Boogie, Hustle, Funky Chicken)

ZuZu Woman Blues
That really was her name!
Moved to a new city with eyes,
body and ears to participate
in any game.
New cities were her passion!
No, not to visit,(how boring) but
to live in one.
Ah, now that was her fashion!
Zuzu you~ so much like a human
electrical wire!
Had a sensual, loving ability to set
men's hearts and neurons on fire.
That long, ebony hair with bangs.
Oh, caught more bees with honey!
And so, don't let Zuzu get you within
her range.
Rhythm and romance were her
total all.
Albeit in any season, be it winter,
summer, spring or fall.
One night, in secret silence, she
boogied out of town.
The moonlight agleam on her ebony
hair as she walked quietly away...
dreaming of her next town.

We clustered on the dance floor
At the edges, though we danced.
You might have missed us if
Into the room you'd quickly glanced.
The energetic dancers
In the middle of the crowd
Jumped and boogied in stilettos
To the music pulsing loud.
Our old moves were more subdued
And, although we sang along,
We were clueless to the lyrics
Of each recent top-hit song.
While the parties were grooving,
Beaming smiles on every face,
Some of us still did the cha-cha,
Which looked sadly out of place.
At a dear friend's daughter's wedding,
Buddies of the groom's and bride's
Danced exactly like we used to
While we watched them from the sides.

At the last day preschool picnic
There were blankets on the grass
Which the tots ran over freely
If that way they had to pass.
There were pastel-frosted cupcakes
(Health food banished for a day)
And the slides and sandbox filled with kids
In joyous outdoor play.
But the draw for my two grandkids
Was the singer with guitar
For when music's in the air, I know
They won't be going far.
So as Henry spun and boogied
And his sister bopped along,
I was grooving like a back-up singer,
Knowing every song.
Three days back I was in Venice
And the vistas were entrancing
But there's nothing that looks better
Than my grandkids when they're dancing.

Away with work
Up Kaitaia way
I’d driven for miles
I’d driven all day.
In a beautiful place
I was feeling alone
So great was the distance
Between me and my home.
I came round a corner
To see works on the road
What gave me the grin
Was a sight to behold.
A stop go lady
She was dancing and moving
Jiggling the booty
Twirling and grooving
Funky and crazy
Not a care in the world
As I unwound the window
A smile she unfurled.
A gap toothed grin
From a proud Maori face
I told her she’d struck me
By her style and her grace.
“Bro it’s OK,
It’s easy to me
When I’m out in the open
Feeling so free
Some think I’m crazy
But I don’t really care
They don’t know my story
The music, only I hear.”
Then she boogied me through
As I beamed and I waved
A new rule for my future
On that day she paved.

ONCE UPON A TIME THERE WAS A BEAUTIFUL DELTA WOMAN AND A STRONG OMEGA MAN.
WHO MET WHILE AT THE INSITITUTE OF HIGHER LEARNING.
SHE HAD BEAUTIFUL BLACK HAIR IN THE SHAPE OF A CIRCLE SHE WAS A FOXY MAMA.
HE WAS A COOL CAT WITH MILK CHOCOLATE SKIN AND A CONFIDENCE NO ONE COULD IGNORE.
THEY BOOGIED THE NIGHT AWAY WHILE SHARING THEIR PASSIONS AND DREAMS WITH EACH OTHER.
IT SEEMS LIKE LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT SOON AFTER THEY COMPLETED THEIR STUDIES.
THEY JOINED EACH OTHER IN MARITAL BLISS IN THE MELODY OF LIFE.
THEY HAD TWO CHILDREN AND WENT TO BE THE GRANDEST PARENTSM THERE IS.
HE IS HER JELLY AND SHE IS HIS PEANUT BUTTER THEIR LOVE FOR MUSIC HAS CARRIED ON TO THEIR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN.
BUT THEIR BIGGEST LOVE IS FOR GOD AND THEY KNOW THAT THROUGH HIM ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE.
SHE IS SWEET AND HE IS SOUR BUT SOMEHOW THEY MAKE THE PERFECT COMBINATION.
