Black-eyed Susan, a Summer doll.
Bright, yellow, with downturned petals.
My childhood shadow skips along
the trail with honeysuckle scent.
Flow’rs stunning in a garden fete.
Her sunrays smile in a vast field.
Petals dance in a circle ‘round
Susan’s sun-soaked, ebony eye.

The eyes are watching
through the tall blades of green grass
Yellow faces show
Black Eyed Susan are scattered
with highlights across the yard

She's not cruisin' for a bruisin'
If in the garden I'm perusin'
She's always the one I'm choosin'
Black and yellow hues infusin'
These honeybees never refusin'
Glee and happiness she's oozin'
The ever lovely Black Eyed Susan

Black Eyed-Susan went out to play
making new friends day after day;
in the garden they would wear
golden ribbons in their hair
and gaily perform a ballet.

The Black Eyed Susan is looking at me
As if it is filled with curiosity
All I am doing is walking on by
Maybe it's my dog, she is not that shy
The torrential rain is heading our way
I choose to write about flowers today
A muse filled with blossoms to share with you
For colors and happiness to shine on through

Black-Eyed Susan- I am called,
quite hardy, one real tough fighting flower;
was born in a lovely cottage garden years and years ago,
surrounded by so many sweet and beautiful friends.
There was Daisy, and Iris, Coral Bell, Primrose, and Violet,
we loved swaying in the sun and we loved the bees;
and butterflies who visited us everyday,
but, my friends died one after another and I was left all alone.
In fact, the cottage is gone now and the garden too,
mighty trains roar past- but mostly it is just quiet;
so, I went deep beneath the dark earth to wait,
then, one day I peaked out- and decided to grow.

Below deep snow snug and cozy,
Waiting for winters final bow,
Miss black eyed susan,
Pokes thru nosey,
Her face to love kowtows,
I Rescue her from the nights chill,
Her beauty will not be still,
In my vase,
On display,
She sheds a single tear,
A cry of thanks and not of fear,
"I love you Susan",
She knows this girl is sincere.

My name is Susan, Black-Eyed Susan I am called,
I am hardy, one real tough fighting flower; I was
born in a lovely cottage garden years and years ago,
surrounded by so many sweet and beautiful friends. Oh there
was Daisy and Iris, Coral Bell, Primrose and Violet.
We loved swaying in the sun and we loved the bees and butterflies
who visited,
but my friends died one after another and I was left all alone.
In fact, the cottage is gone now and the garden is gone too;
Trains roar past but mostly it is quiet,
so, I went deep beneath the dark earth, waiting . . .
then, one day I peaked out- and decided to grow.

Fun loving and flirty,
Always climbing,
No fence too high,
Spreading herself about,
Relaxing lazily in the sun,
Tanning her golden face,
Flattering long eyelashes,
A real honey babe!
Attracting butterflies,
The good time flower,
Surprising passers-by,
With her smiling heart,
And a flair for happiness.
Black-Eyed-Susan,
Cools off in the shade,
After a hectic fun day
Running on the vine.

My Darling Girl,
your big dark eyes met mine
against your pale skin and yellow hair
this name sang in my heart, Susan,
my Black-Eyed Susan.
A wild flower you’ll be, you’ll be a
kind friend,
loving wife,
strong mother,
sweet grandmother
and always you’ll be
my darling girl, my Black-Eyed Susan
