To The Brink For The Ink Crack Like Fissures
Another page scarred with ink. Upon her page, I see red ink
branded by the thoughts I think. Tattooed thoughts, that make me think
My mind imprisoned, feel the burn, Within intricate patterns, my heart it learns
past the point of no return. As I slip off her ledge, my spirit churns
Faces bob like buoys in an ocean, For her mind, it is an ocean
I'm sea sick to societies motion. I'm lost upon, her wave like motion
Clutter intoxicates my brain, Intoxication, it fills my brain
filling me with failure and pain. Strange impressions, as I view her pain
Forcing sleep deprivation muse, bubbling from my mind, feelings break loose
cigarette, pot and coffee abuse. I'm transported back, to my own abuse
Five A.M. and the pressure is strong Crack like fissures, emotions strong
to make these words move along. I feel I've known her all along
My audience awaits but I'm still She grants me audience, within places still
writing rhymes against my will. Her rhymes resonate, until I bow to her will
Blocked by need I'm suffocated, lungs filled fully, never suffocated
my joy becomes what I've hated. She’s one transcended, not filled with hatred
I can't escape the vines I've grown, a climbing flower, I've see how she's grown
notebook prison, I cry alone. With her notebook open, she's never alone
All this angst and misery, She transcends angst and misery
all for the love of writing poetry. Within her glowing landscape of poetry

From Dawn's Spirited Breath, See Red, Red Rose
When Summer rose meets dawning's sweetest hush
Sun comes to bequeath its dawn bathing rays
Red beauty gleaming, rose stills early rush
Into man's world shines, another bright day.
With red rose petals spreading ever wide
Calming thoughts, heavenly blue ocean waves
One may from duty or play thus decide
No plucking, to rose's truest of beauty save.
Within Nature's truth, rests a native song
Of wanderings some lost souls have traveled
In desperate search for truth to belong
Hope, such tapestry, can be unraveled.
From Dawn's spirited breath, they see red rose.
And wonder why its color, Nature chose.

Red Rose, Sing Me A Sweeter Melody
Alas! Flowers winter breath soon must feel
Frigid wind, that fierce and dastardly blows
Pray I, mildest winter, on knees I kneel
Begging for Spring, when fantastic green shows.
Red rose, sing me a sweeter melody
Of paradise that hold Spring all the year
Casting winter's fangs into darkest sea
Allaying this man's dreaded icy fears.
Shall I, for deepest beauty thus reward
A plastic cover to thy life extend
For here blasting winter chill 'tis so hard
Harsh reality, let us not pretend!
Red rose, thy bright song must for a time end.
Solemn vow held as, magnificent friend!
Robert J. Lindley,
Sonnet, Rhyme, ( Red Rose, To Admiring Heart, Thy Truest Song Sing )

Then Red Rose Blushed Its Petals Brightest Red
Songbirds to red rose, thy colors cry out
Bestow thy harmonious songs as gifts
We sing melodies while flying about
Hoping thy red souls it truly uplifts.
Red rose, songbirds assuredly you know
In my soft flowerbeds I welcome thee
In Mother earth's soil I happily grow
With pleasure serve her busy honey-bee.
Listen Mother Nature so softly said
Birds to you, I giveth earth and blue sky
To red rose I gift my fine virgin beds
None but blinded man would be asking why!
Then red rose blushed its petals brightest red
Proving to all, truth Mother Nature said!

I search,
Am I a lost cause?
I speak to all, to friends
To enemies.
Where can she be?
My love is nowhere to be found.
I search for her daintiness,
Her dark black fringe,
Her lithe contours so marvellous.
Her red full lips.
Am I pursuing a foolish dream?
A glimpse.
That’s all I ask.
I will be in paradise.
Tell her it was just a random remark.
I love her till the end of times.
And I wander around the main streets,
Searching,
Searching.
I am not much I know,
But I need her.
I saw a glimpse of her.
She smiled.
But it could not be her!
Her hair was red.
Could she have played a trick on me?
I only see red now.
Sitting on a bench one day
looking up at an azure sky
I did see red heart balloons
as they slowly drifted by
Crimson kisses among
clouds like cotton candy
Bouncing over green trees
and beaches golden sandy
Dipping down in the wind
they danced atop lilac trees,
then rose again in splendor,
blown by a gentle breeze
What hand had loosed
this treasure into the day
Some lover who wanted
to give his heart away?
I longed to gather them,
return each and every one
they were beyond my reach
as they soared toward the sun
Looking up into the sky
a bird pooped in my eye
as it was flying overhead
causing me to see red
It was warm and soggy
making me feel queasy
I scurried into the house
like an upset little mouse
I headed for the kitchen sink
and got there in a blink
Using the faucet spout
I tried to flush it out
When it was expelled
it had a funny smell
and the sink water
had a dirty colour
So when a bird is flying overhead
keep your head down instead
Do not look up into the sky
or you may get poop in your eye
The complexities of life colours our world
We are taken on a long and sometimes complicated journey
Like being on a roller coaster where there are many twists and turns
No day is ever the same - it can be a smooth or a bumpy ride
Thankfully we don’t know how and when it will end
We can wake up feeling sad and blue
Feel down and depressed on a grey day
If we are jealous we can be green with envy
Be described as yellow if we act with cowardice
See red when we are angry
Feel tickled pink or be in the pink when we are happy
Fall into a dark black mood
See everything in black and white
Say someone has a heart of gold
Look to the sky seek a cloud with a silver lining
We need to hang on to precious golden memories
None of us knows what fate has in store for us
May the colourful ribbons in our life be intertwined
The good days out-numbering the bad
Lots of happy colourful ones rather than sad

Contest: Life is like a Maypole – Seren Roberts
~awarded 2nd place~
Blessed are the peacemakers
A great source of joy in life
They are a great blessing
Amidst life’s battles and strife.
We have one such amongst us
Who is quite capable
To diffuse any situation
To bring peace he’s able.
He knows how to calm the rage
When anger is raging high
He brings peace and calm
When the sparks seem to fly.
His mind is all at peace
When others see red
He restores normalcy
When sanity hangs by a thread.
He devotes his life to prayer
We hold him in great admiration
The world he makes a better place
He is truly an inspiration.

My Favorite Place
My favorite place is where the sun bakes my skin
From a soft pink to a golden tan.
Warm planks under my feet take me down the dock.
I see red stains and dried watermelon seeds,
Evidence of yesterday’s snack.
The salty sea spray hits my tongue,
My mouth waters with thirst.
Sea gulls bob to the rhythm of the waves.
I swat away mosquitoes biting my face leaving red itchy whelps on my skin.
But I stay to watch enjoying the dolphins play.
The evening sky is an orange dreamcicle
Melting away until another day.
I reach for the stars on the water’s surface,
The water responds with a luminous glow,
I turn away, I have to go,
Until another day, I will miss you
(sing to tune of Hush Little Baby)
Hush, little PD, don't say a word.
Nathan's gonna buy you a mocking bird.
If that bird makes fun of you....
that's what that bird is supposed to do!
Take that bird and trade it in.
Buy yourself a coat made of leopard skin.
Take great care to not go out
anywhere that PETA might be about.
You could get hit in the head.
PETA activists can sure see red.
If a new coat you don't need,
how about a new cat, Persian breed?
If that cat sheds too much hair,
have Nathan take you out to a fair.
Fairs are fun. You can't go wrong.
Are you fast asleep yet from this dumb song?
If you're not, I have to say....
your insomnia is here to STAY.

Happy ZZZZZZZZs to you, PD
I think sometimes we are more enemies than friends.
When we scream at each other, I think about how much I hate those dark brown eyes of yours.
Your hair are soft downy feathers that I wish I had.
The way you speak your mind to me is like a river, carrying fish but also debris.
We disagree over the smallest things, neither of us willing to back down and determined to have the last say, no matter how insignificant they are.
Your childish personality often clash with mine.
You don't ask, but my favorite socks will somehow end up on your feet.
I wish I can turn back time to the way we were before.
The two of us were like puppies, playful and inseparable.
I remember our balloons being blown away, sailing up into the blue and beyond.
Hand in hand, we'd walk into school, only letting go when we go our separate ways.
We'd play outside even in the musky, gray fog.
You once defended me like your life depended on it.
I miss those times.
But I love you anyway; even though at times you make me see red.
I am accustomed to spitting out bones of my prisoners, not witnessing their escape. I hear whales whistle their stoic dirges as I descend—they know the doomed are villains and freedom is promised to the brave of the brine. I am Devil Damsel, doomed as villain deemed with jagged teeth of unworthy. I am a colorless livid leviathan ghost ready to seize joy from the helpless, from the hopeful. I see red, but I am not blind. Before my downward plunge, I witnessed stars in the sky. Distracted by their glow, I missed your own, sinking back down into my monomaniac world, where stars are only dreams I shame over.
Seductive subduction.
I thought I knew darkness till I saw that glow—that glimpse of unreachable light. And I can live there. All I need to do is swim upward and kiss the surface. But the abyss—I consume it, and it consumes me.
Hydrostatic hell.
I am chained to these Platonian trenches eternally deemed ignorant. Death boxes. Nailed, anchored, mercurial, messy, mine. I deal with the discarded, the forgotten just as I disembody the discarded, the forgotten.
Catastrophic cold.
It freezes everything that I am that you see me only in your pain.
(Note: this is a sequel to an older poem I wrote years ago called Devil Damsel)
"I will never know how you see red and you will never know how I see it." ~ Anne Carson, 'Autobiography Of Red'
Red are my cheeks when you compliment me.
Red is the bacteria in the southern Red Sea.
Red is the blood that has been shed for freedom.
Red is the cover of Dutch yellow cheese, edam.
Red, too, the lips after lingering, hungry kisses.
Red marks the sector of bullseye misses.
Red is the power of a celebrity's walk.
Red, the color of love's angry talk.
Red is love, hate, romance, and rage.
Red is the ink that edits my page.
Red is sexuality and esteem.
Red Stars is a women's hockey team.
Red is the blood of Christ and the fires of Hell.
Red is the sound of the persistent death knell.
The sun has torched you flaming red
A blooming of spring canopies spread
From a mile away I see red tree heads
Her red hot fringe teases the wind
She sways in tune marching lines ahead
And falls gently kissing this earthy bed
Street-long heavy-hung red pollen she spreads
Her fragrance follows this beauty in red
Passion awakens
With slow gentle rain kisses
Flaming red within.

I turned fourteen, the world turned cold,
The light I knew felt strange, controlled.
They said these years would shape my soul—
But all I feel is lost and old.
I used to laugh, just ‘cause I could,
Run wild in every neighborhood.
Now I just scroll, or lie awake,
Pretending none of this can break.
The mirror’s cruel, my thoughts are loud,
I shrink beneath an unseen cloud.
A thousand voices in my head,
Some scream, some whisper, all see red.
They say, “You’re young, you’ve got the time,”
But why does breathing feel like crime?
Why does the morning taste like rust?
Why do I find it hard to trust?
Friends drift off like mist at dawn,
No goodbye, just gone is gone.
And those who stay don’t see me whole—
They joke around, ignore my soul.
School’s a blur of stress and shame,
Trying hard to play the game.
Smiles are masks, and grades are chains,
And no one cares about the pain.
I see their lives online each night—
Perfect faces, filtered light.
They’re laughing loud while I feel small,
Like I don’t really count at all.
They don’t know how it feels inside—
This heaviness I cannot hide.
I fake the “fine,” I nod, I try,
But part of me just wants to cry.
I miss the kid I used to be—
The one who ran, the one who dreamed.
Now I just wish to disappear,
Or scream so loud that someone hears.
But still I write, and still I speak,
Even when I’m feeling weak.
And maybe that’s the strongest part—
Still standing with a shattered heart.
If you’re fourteen and feel this way,
Like joy’s a game you just can’t play—
I want you to know you’re not alone.
We’re out here too, just barely grown.
It’s okay to not be okay,
To hate the world some nights, some days.
But don’t give up, don’t dim your spark—
Even stars are born in dark.
I think my brother’s a werewolf!
It’s hard to believe but so true!
At dusk he is like a great beast!
He’s hairy and scary; bearded too!
He’s never around in the daytime.
He sneaks out with a creepy girl.
I have a feeling that someday,
she’ll eat his gross flesh... and then hurl!
I see red bumps on his forehead
that count the days ‘till a full moon.
I sure hope he’s not contagious!
Or I’ll be a werewolf quite soon!
Scratching his head doing homework!
Wetting his bed while he’s asleep!
These are just a few of the signs
proving that he’s a monstrous creep!
I went to my mother and told her
about my brother superbly.
Then she giggled and simply said,
“Dear, he’s going through puberty!”
