ROSES ARE RED
The flower’s crimson cerise hue
creates the petal’s grand debut
of love and memories to recall
my florid sanguine gift of all
VIOLETS ARE BLUE
Azalea breath with foxglove tones
embellish with an azure clone
herbaceous with a petal white
where insects set and birds alight
SUGAR IS SWEET
Bright butterflies on zephyr breeze
sip nectar from Sakura trees
I watch them dance from break of dawn
on flowers where their wings adorn
AND SO ARE YOU
You sent me a bouquet of love
drifting down from heaven above
Candy kisses sweet as fructose
on bended knee you now propose

From Dawn's Spirited Breath, See Red, Red Rose
When Summer rose meets dawning's sweetest hush
Sun comes to bequeath its dawn bathing rays
Red beauty gleaming, rose stills early rush
Into man's world shines, another bright day.
With red rose petals spreading ever wide
Calming thoughts, heavenly blue ocean waves
One may from duty or play thus decide
No plucking, to rose's truest of beauty save.
Within Nature's truth, rests a native song
Of wanderings some lost souls have traveled
In desperate search for truth to belong
Hope, such tapestry, can be unraveled.
From Dawn's spirited breath, they see red rose.
And wonder why its color, Nature chose.
Robert J. Lindley,
Sonnet, Rhyme, ( To Gaze In Awe At Red Rose Radiant Colors )

Red Rose, Sing Me A Sweeter Melody
Alas! Flowers winter breath soon must feel
Frigid wind, that fierce and dastardly blows
Pray I, mildest winter, on knees I kneel
Begging for Spring, when fantastic green shows.
Red rose, sing me a sweeter melody
Of paradise that hold Spring all the year
Casting winter's fangs into darkest sea
Allaying this man's dreaded icy fears.
Shall I, for deepest beauty thus reward
A plastic cover to thy life extend
For here blasting winter chill 'tis so hard
Harsh reality, let us not pretend!
Red rose, thy bright song must for a time end.
Solemn vow held as, magnificent friend!
Robert J. Lindley,
Sonnet, Rhyme, ( Red Rose, To Admiring Heart, Thy Truest Song Sing )
(3.)
Then Red Rose Blushed Its Petals Brightest Red
Songbirds to red rose, thy colors cry out
Bestow thy harmonious songs as gifts
We sing melodies while flying about
Hoping thy red souls it truly uplifts.
Red rose, songbirds assuredly you know
In my soft flowerbeds I welcome thee
In Mother earth's soil I happily grow
With pleasure serve her busy honey-bee.
Listen Mother Nature so softly said
Birds to you, I giveth earth and blue sky
To red rose I gift my fine virgin beds
None but blinded man would be asking why!
Then red rose blushed its petals brightest red
Proving to all, truth Mother Nature said!

Sonnet, Rhyme, ( Red Rose, Songbirds, Mother, Nature- A Conversation )
he is tall and dark
gentle strong hands tender heart
brown eyes deep like sea
plant peace inside me
he gave me twelve red roses
pearly smile shining
adventure, growing up, hip hop, repetition, word play
A ONE STEP AT A TIME ©
Life is but a hopscotch path
Players vying for placement
Rules to follow aground
Tokens used for good luck
Practice runs lead to safe landings
Over ever-changing terrains
Hop skip and jump!
Land on a crack
You break your Mudder’s back
Marbles fill a bag of loot
Once directed into home holes
Missed turns are your takings
Marbled cat eyes forever coveted!
Crayons come in packs
Pick a colour to your taste
Roses are red
Violets are blue
Black is for rain clouds
Gone is a sun yellow
A is for Apple-
B is for Bunny-
C is for caterwauling
Letters up for a draw
Lettered tongues speak
The bad, good and the ugly
Making mountains out of mole hills!
Name-calling never hurts
Pain hurts from thrown stones
Calling one to take a chance
Towards another hopscotch
With hop skips and jumps
One step, two steps, three steps more!
Roses are red
Violets are blue
I’m up for a quickie
Do you fancy one too?

HIS ROSE, HER DEATH
All she had wanted was a red, red rose,
That would quell the love of that handsome man,
Alas! The rose tree was in winter's throes,
Unable to birth a rose of her plan;
So she said she will sing the whole night long,
With her heart against the thorn of that tree,
"Love is greater than life", rang out her song,
As her life blood fashioned his love ruby;
Yet, when her heart burst out in pain thereof,
When the crimson petals slowly opened,
He was not there to see her die for love,
Nor did he feel that love with blood deepened;
"Trust me baby, this is love," her last breath,
He never found out his rose was her death.

Chloee? Yes Reginald!
Why do they call us Dachshunds, Wiener Dogs?
Maybe they call you a Wiener Reginald!
You cut me off at the legs with that one Chloee!
Two
Chloee? Yes Reginald! Have you ever smelled mothballs.
No Reginald it's too difficult to spread their tiny legs.
My that was a low blow Chloee. You wish Reginald, you wish!
Three
Reginald? Yes Chloee! I was at the park with my owner playing
Frisbee. As I watched the Frisbee I wondered why it was getting
bigger and bigger as it came towards me than it hit me.
Four
Chloee? Yes Reginald!
I was just lying down in the park the other day watching a Labrador
chasing his tail an' I thought ain't that amazing how easily amused
Labradors are! Then I realized I was watching the Labrador chase his tail.
Five
Reginald? Yes Chloee! I've written a poem it goes like this.
"Roses are red. Violets are blue. Some poems rhyme. And some don't!"
Six
Chloee? Yes Reginald! I was at a restaurant, I ordered a chicken sandwich,
but I don’t think the waitress understood me. Because she said,
“How would you like your eggs?” So I tried to answer her anyhow. I said,
“Incubated! And then raised, and then beheaded, and then plucked,
and then cut up, and then put onto a grill, and then put onto a bun.
Damn! It’s gonna take a while. I don’t have time. Scrambled!”
The Finale
A Dachshund walks under a bar. I mean walks into a bar. Goes to the
bar and sits down. Asks the bartender "can I have a Budweiser Light
Beer" the bartender serves him and informs him "that will be seven dollars".
The Dachshund pays. The bartender keeps looking at the Dachshund.
Finally the Dachshund yells "What?" The bartender explains "no I'm
sorry we just never get Dachshunds in this bar." The Dachshund replies
"I'm not surprised...at seven dollars for a beer..."
The Encore
Reginald? Yes Chloee! When you cut your nails, do you file them?
Yes Chloee as a matter of fact I do! Pity! I just throw mine out!
Curtains!

Roses are red and pink and yellow
Go find yourself another fellow
You promised you'd lose a ton of weight
By February of 2008
I don't want a gal in a size forty dress
If I wanted a monster, I'd visit Loch Ness
So very good wishes on this Cupid's Day
Go look for a guy who cares not what you weigh
Roses are Red.
Violets are blue.
God made them that way.
And He made you, too.
He had a perfect plan
As he formed you from clay.
If you will only let Him,
He will help you in His way.
He’ll melt your hardened heart,
And fill it with His Love.
And if your eyes fill with tears,
They too, may be sent from above.
If you will open the door,
He will come into your life.
He’ll fill you with Love and Joy,
And erase all your fear and strife.
Roses are red, violets are blue
Through my telescope I spy on you
But the idea was yours
Even the unlocked doors
Love thy neighbor is up for review

One ready for pictures
Always in a pose,
Photogenically prepared
Stands The Rose
With the depthening and bolden
Color of red,
Appear it’s strong petals
Without the despairing thought of shed
...The association of love
Under any weather,
Only for the purpose
Of making her day better
...So perfect and so steady
Is the Rose that you see,
But what some don’t recognize
Is the mess it used to be...
With beauty comes time
With time comes love,
And with love comes patience
And that patience has sprung.
Sweet friend forever
Friendship entwined together
May roses fill you with joy
The red ones are true
The pretty white ones are pure
Dozens are set at your door
Whenever we speak
Your warm kindness floods my soul
Brings chills of admiration
I send you respect
Of heartfelt sincerity
Roses sent to fill your heart

part one:
i was new and i wasn't sure what to expect i was here to mend.
before i submitted anything i thought i would get a lay of the land.
finally i dove in. head first. yikes!
in the shallow end. double yikes!
part two:
dear reader after that tumultuous beginning of this harrowing tale
we continue with part two. (scary movie music plays to no avail)
boy oh boy this is really scary stuff
back to the story, though a little rough
(as an aside did i mention i have big feet their long fellows)
part three:
the time had come.
this is no time to be dumb.
had a poem to submit. one with a lot of wit
"roses are red
violets are blue
some poems rhyme
some poems don't"
i couldn't enter this poem it was written by Shakespeare and that would be
plagiarism
(note to self look up the meaning of that big word i just wrote. it is a big word like
marmalade)
part eight:
so there i was reading my first comment. i couldn't believe what i was reading.
the words were kind and helpful
could this be true
i had expected something brittle
i grabbed a tissue
tears were streaming down my face
i thought this is a fantastic place
the poets here are quite amazing
talk about baffling and confusing
this was a lot better than
the time i had spent in jail
in the country of iran
a small room and a pail
do you know what that comment said
"i read this while lying in my bed
i thought it was quite romantic
actually even really poetic"
part twenty:
Fini
(in my own defense the rules said use any style. this is a form the french call
poetry of the absurd...or not!)
