Premium Member A Question of Love

Loves promenades towards emptiness
	longing is a void
darkness of a million universes
where mythical black holes
chant of timeless desires

Yearning for carnal eternity
where candles never die

Two of us
	never met
	oceans apart
	gasping for affections
	in different times
	winds may have swept
	this way or that
	never seen

Wind and candle lie in death
so lost
in emptiness

Rhetorical Question

Can
you love
me without
the pain that love
brings?

Premium Member The Eternal Question: God, No God, Maybe God

As I lay upon a grassy bald in the Great Smoky Mountains on a clear August night, I gaze at the stars and muse about my Creator, the source of all dynamic energy. A tear forms in my eye as I contemplate whether or not he cares about someone as insignificant as me. After all, who am I in his grand scheme of things? A nobody. A nothing. A tiny speck of dust in a seemingly endless universe, full of amazing wonders and mysteries.

I pluck a blade of grass for no other reason than it is there and stare at it for a moment. How many blades of grass must cover the earth, I wonder to myself. Each tiny blade is made of many cells. And each cell contains chloroplasts which are like tiny factories, taking in sunlight and carbon dioxide and turning them into energy in an amazing process called photosynthesis. The green color is worthy of contemplation too. The chlorophyll in the plant absorbs all the colors of the light spectrum except green, which is how it then appears to our eyes. But grass doesn't just cover the land and add to its beauty. It is food for countless living creatures on earth. All these things I have known for years but never gave it much thought till tonight. Why now?

Then it hits me like a warm zephyr. If God put so much thought into creating a blade of grass, he must care about me! Was I not made in his image and likeness? Do I not possess the divine qualities of love, justice, power and wisdom? Does my heart not cry out for the innocents killed in frivolous and unjustifiable wars? Do I not bleed for victims of abuse and neglect? And does my soul not long for a close relationship with my Maker, who has promised better times in the days ahead?

The stars look different now, warmer. The full moon an orb of peace and comfort, hanging in the heavens for my delight. I am loved. I am important. And I will forever be grateful to the One who taught me this invaluable lesson on a hot August night in the Smoky Mountain National Park.

Premium Member The Big Question For Those of Little Faith

Energy is neither created, nor destroyed
but does transform
witness the log burning in the fireplace
cellulose and lignin combining with oxygen
yielding heat, water and CO2
and with you sitting so close beside me
another transformation's coming on.

Yet cracks appear as we age,
time and entropy take their toll,
and these days we go to more funerals
than weddings and christenings.
We've made arrangements to smooth
our affairs for those who remain and
laid up good whiskey and cognac
for our last remembrance.
I've chosen green burial
in a 500 year forest;
you cremation,
with your ashes
pressed into
a forever
diamond.

While we know our genes
carry on in our children
and our atoms will still cycle,
but there remains the question
of how the bit that makes us
us will merge with the cosmos.

Premium Member Still Un-Answered Universal Question

Is it a myth that History repeats?
This universal question that time deletes

Is the evidence clear that it occurs?
Through eons and eons it strangely recurs

Is it true that horrors are dulled by time?
This forever, unchanging paradigm

If wars are to end should it start with me?
To account for mankind’s insanity.

Question Number Eight

With spring approaching quickly and milk is upon the rise,
our factory employs seasonal workers to resize,
the employee pool to accommodate the milk intake,
which means twenty-four by seven with such a lot at stake.

The milk dryer needed packers and more cleaners on the floor.
There’s a need for extra lab staff, truck drivers, and some more,
‘til with most positions filled, except one so it did seem.
The warehouse needs another forklift driver for the team.

Mick our production manager had from two nominees to pick.
But must consider who was better; which one will do the trick,
so in my control room we met to show me their régimes,
and both of them were similar so had to find another way.

Bjorn was Norwegian who is back packing for a year,
while Murphy is an Irishman who has settled very near.
And to try and solve the puzzle on who we think may be best,
we came to a conclusion they should take a written test.

So Mick prepared for both a twenty question simple quiz,
hoping this would prove that one, is a better fork lift whiz.
Mick sat them inside his office where he could watch the pair,
as they gave answers to this company’s questionnaire.

It’s never pretty telling folks they miss out on being hired.
They can get very angry once they know they’re not required.
I was ushered to the office once a decision’s made.
The losing candidate was Murphy and he was quite dismayed.

Mick explained to Muphy that from twenty questions asked.
“Bjorn and you got nineteen right with the answers you both caste”.
“Why did I lose?” Murphy whined. “It’s a case of being biased,
seeing we got nineteen right; one more would be the highest”.

“That’s your problem Murphy. The question you got wrong was eight,
and after reading both your answers, here’s what sealed your fate”.
Mick gave an explanation looking Murphy in the eye,
“Bjorn’s answer was ‘I don’t know’ - and you wrote ‘neither do I”.

Premium Member Why Is the Question

let me pause
slow down a minute
and look inward
to adjust my lens

there’s more to life than
operating in react mode

let me pause to ask
the real question
the why is so much more
revealing than the what

let me break the cycle
and if need be, like a rookie
put training wheels back on my bike
refuse to live on automatic pilot

I’m more than the sum of my parts
similar to the iceberg with
most of me under my surface
always more to me that meets the eye

I am more than an organism
with likes and dislikes
more than a machine
with on and off switches

I’m comparable to
a complex equalizer
filtering and remastering
random captured signals

I’m the maestro of my life
creator of my realm
master of my domain

I am simply more
I am so much more

all for asking the real question
the why is always so much more
revealing than the what

Premium Member The Country Walk That Asked a Question

Recently being on holiday at Strathpeffer
one day taking a countryside walk
so pleasant walking among the woods
time passed by noticing no clock

Having walked quite a fair distance
decided to turn around to walk back
then halfway along met a man
who was struggling along the track

this man stopped us with a question to ask
'Who is the greatest man in world history?'
so we said that man is Jesus Christ
no doubt at all our answer to this task

Then in midst of the conversation spoke
the purpose of earth, stars, and moon
agreeing that God did make it all
in His greatness everything by a stroke

1 Corinthians 13 speaks of perfect love
Galatians 5 tells of true spiritual fruit (vs22-24)
our walking friend clearly agreed
showing we all knew the right shoot

Then our friend posed one more Q
what does God require of His own?
justice to be done also love kindness
brings humility to walk along God's zone(Micah 6:8)

These characteristics found in holy scripture
Micah chapter six verse eight
such a blessing to meet this friend
sharing so much of God's open gate

(On holiday at Strathpeffer in the Scottish highlands last year, my wife Christine and I met a man on a country walk and this is our experience.)

"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires."
Galatians 5: 22-24(esv)
"He has told you, O man, what is good;
and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God?"
Micah 6: 8 (esv)

Premium Member Mewling Fear: A Question

Darkness engulfed me
I struggled to adjust to the shadows
blinked when my vision brought to light—
an empty room, rumpled sheets of an unmade bed
a tear-stained pillow where I'd laid my head

There was a wooden luster on the furniture
I sniffed the unmistakable church scent of candles
six long white tapers on two candelabra
My fingertips smoothed white satin beneath me
Thoughts began to drift, sifting through... what?

I was carrying the weight of an albatross
My back bent from the burden held too long
Something was wrong
A mewling of fear formed a question
that I dared not ask

In my ear, a whispered hisssss
"Go ahead and asssk it. It'sss commonplace."
A voice without a face—
disappeared without a trace

My submissive nerves feigning bravado
I tried to rise but curdled
There was a hurdle of some sort in my way
Eyelids too heavy to open
My arms reach to set me free
but I cannot move
No words escape on my tongue

I cursed the albatross that held me down
Away from me, I wanted it flung
I searched to find courage to ask
if I was facing death or a demon's call....
In my ear, a whispered hisssss
"Go ahead and asssk it. It'sss commonplace.
Asssk the question if you dare."
That voice without a face—
disappeared without a trace

I felt a kiss upon my cheek
from trembling lips that did not speak
That pungent scent of too many flowers
should've had me suffering a headache
Had I been resting here for hours?
"If this is not a dream
then tell me...." I beseeched

But the world was out of reach
Thoughts abandoned me
I tried to feel a pulse, a heartbeat—

There was another kiss
Tears on my cheek, but not my own
I froze at the sound of another hissss

An Epic Battle With a Simple Question

A beautiful heart pines from afar.
To parallel freedom, we choose our master.
In Love, the Dragon and Unicorn are!

Celestial winged heart beats faster,
Over mountain and ocean meet polar eyes.
To parallel freedom, we choose our master.

Embarking from sun brewed and moonshine skies
Two alien races, in war, collide.
Over mountain and ocean meet polar eyes.

All brothers' swords raise, marching with pride.
Sisters of heaven let feathers fly.
Two alien races, in war, collide.

The angered clouds rain blood from the sky.
A new path finally found.
Sisters of heaven let feathers fly.

Brothers' swords low now to the ground.
A beautiful heart pines from afar.
A new path finally found.
In Love, the Dragon and Unicorn are!

In universe
Out bound energy
Where are we when we die?

THE QUESTION MARK

Our life-
A question mark it is-
Struggling
Into an exclamation point
To turn
But
After numerous battles against
A series of:
Commas
Semicolons
Colons
Brackets and
Dashes,
Exhausted;
Ends up-
In most cases-
A…period "." to
Be.
