Best Proud Poems
A young, enchanting Lilly stands tall and oh so very proud,
Others waiting in line to bloom, they silently vowed,
Eager roses showing off their virgin white beauty,
Vain, trying to steal the show, maybe feeling a little guilty,
Bougainvillea, vivaciously display a color of vibrant indigo,
They lean forward as I approach whispering, watch me grow.
One Proud Yellow Dandelion
Lantanas and pears are lushly in bloom,
Baby chartreuse leaves brighten winter’s late gloom
And one proud yellow dandelion.
We wait for the redbuds – where are you?
There are dark spring clouds under the blue,
And one proud yellow dandelion.
Nandina berries like Christmas late,
Spring cold breezes now sealing their fate,
And one proud yellow dandelion.
Courageously the dandelion stiffly stands,
Knowing it will change, blow like sand,
And mother the earth with new children.
To bloom and fly away.
I AM A PROUD GREEK SUNDIAL
I only tell of sunny hours historically,
And go back to when I was built,
Fifty years before Christ was born,
Have been renovated and rebuilt!
My name is Tower of the Winds,
I live in Agora, Athens Greece,
I live at the summit, on top,
Tell time and season, quite an eyepiece
Lord Elgin attempted to remove me from
Greece and take me to Britain but failed,
But I the sundial perched high above,
Stand proud as Elgin’s actions were curtailed!

Would you be proud,
would you tell me out loud
If you were still on this Earth ?
Would your eyes well with tears,
would you smile and say “ cheers “
would you feel I am someone of worth ?
Would you wrap me up tight in your arms with delight ?
Would you see that I now have a purpose?
Would you now believe
it was so hard to leave my old life that resembled a circus ?
Would your heart swell with love ?
would I fit like a glove
into the family you nurtured ?
Would you tell all your friends ?
would your love never end
now you see that my prospects I furthered ?
I see you in dreams and your face seems to beam with that beauteous light that surrounds you .
I just pray that you see , that there’s lots more to me
than the girl that you left far behind you .
Could you be close by ?
Are you near when I cry
In the wind softly drying my tears ?
Could it be your embrace ?
Is the sun on my face ?
Stroke my arm when I’m facing my fears ?
Would you gift me a sign that you’re hearing my rhyme?
That my words have been able to touch you ?
Every moment I relished,
conversations I cherish.
How I wish I could reach out and clutch you.
Though you have now gone
your wise words linger on,
they’re engraved in my mind now forever.
Through the veil that divides,
This tie will survive.
I’ll not let our bond ever sever.
The sun rose bright red not a dark cloud in sight
Few whispy cotton clouds spread around blue sky
Redtail Hawk in sky left nest for morning flight
On those cold air currents he did swiftly fly
Door was opened by east north easterly wind
Letting out illness, death, want_then in comes health
The sun set covered in dense clouds_cold its shroud
Will it rise in morn purple horizon proud
A part of what you are to me
Knowing you are free to be
apart from me
and yet
I am no longer free
to be alone from thee
so hold my heart my love my soul
for you are all that keeps me whole
Upon this sea of life and storm
I hold your love to light and warm
my every breath
on every turn with you I yearn to be
to hold you close to feel you blink
your breath upon my face
refreshes me as we embrace
and then I sink to deep contented sleep
a well fed cat
in Summer sun
whose furry dreams
have just begun
paws atingle purrs aloud
whisker flicking joy and proud
as only cats can be
Stand up, be proud!
Shout it out loud!
No shroud in you.
In pleasantries, orchestrated on our screens,
We live the lives of many men and women,
As if sex could be! We grow, composed of well-cooked pablum
Eaten between long work hours, digested pleasantly.
In a fetal coil, I rest, my optic eye
Doesn’t blink at the silver reticules of my mind:
My body well knit by well-knit engineers,
This me-model makes real tears, running from my eyes.
Of course I’m human – hammered out in school,
Wearing what Designers Club tells me to;
You and I, we can adjust ourselves with tools,
Look down upon the Primitives -- those old fools.
Insulated from all microbial bio-terrors,
Safe from the brute, the thorn, the flawed flower
Blooming wild; we -- kept safe – know no variant weather,
Pity the Primitive, exposed to flood and laser-tower.
Did you see those messages, scrawled upon a wall,
Comparing us with vipers at Adam’s Fall?
There’s not an original thought in what he thinks:
That purist Primitive! His raw flesh stinks!
Computers say it best, and yet, I see
Something –compelling--- in his graffiti:
“O song, sing forth unto the endless skies--
O hear, created stars! You long have looked
Upon all who weep, who ever made outcry,
And wrote it down, in God’s forgotten book.”
written for those in the future--a protest against genetic engineering
Happy birthday America, Happy 4th of July.
Show the red, white and blue, high against the sky.
Over 200 years ago it was put forth to right a wrong.
A new concept, a democracy, powerful and strong.
According to this doctrine, we have done what we had to do.
History was recorded, to prove it all to be true.
To this day, we continue to fight for the right to be free.
As the founding fathers created and established it to be.
We all have our beliefs, to agree or disagree.
I respect yours, please do the same for me.
So let us raise our voices over that of the crowd.
We are the United States of America!
And of that, we are proud!
You have grown to be such a man
yet, I cannot help but see the boy in you
you are my Son, who wears many uniforms
as your father, I cannot help but be Proud,
I see you march in the Orange and Black
your new horn, the one you have polished to a glow
every step you take, Orchestrated to perfection
with every note played, My pride, Crescendo
Then, you have worked hard, and Matured
a letter arrives, Office of the Governor, the Man himself
an invitation, Ambassadorship, a Musical one
Travel Europe, Summer next, Seven Countries
A Father, busting with pride, Why? I'll tell you!
Because, " Your Easy to be Proud of"
Yet as proud as I am, there is this other Uniform
the one you wear with Honor, Duty, Love of Country
the one with Medals, Braids and Epaulets
the one with a special pin, a hometown pin
Five Stars Golden, enveloped by Black and Orange
Tenne' a Chevron, a Chief, a Ring of Life
of the First Argent, A Scroll in Black
an inscription, " Classis Adhaereo Adstringo"
A Motto, In Latin, ascribed by the Navy
for Five hometown boys Lost in War
of how they lived and died " We Stick Together"
Albert,Francis,George,Joseph and Madison Sullivan
In that Uniform, I see the Man, not the boy
I cannot help but be caught, in solemn thought
This Man, with Anapolis in sight and mind
on this, the Eve of the 9/11 tragedy and War
That solemn thought reverts to Sacrifice
the Sullivan's sacrificed,9/11 over 3000 sacrificed
all did so,willingly or not, for Country, for God
I think you have foreseen Your Destiny, Your own
Josh, whatever Uniform you decide to wear,
whatever path, you may choose to walk
I'll always Love you, Be there for and with you
and be So Very Proud of You, Why? Because!
You're Easy to be Proud of!
With all my Love.....Dad

The covered bridge is covered with snow
A thin sheet of ice is on the river below
Swirled patches of gray and white fill the sky
Sun peeks through like the white of an eye
Snow blows off some trees in a cloud
Drifting through the air, as winter stands proud

In splendor of meadows gentle winds blow
As traversing high-low mighty rivers flow
And sun never sets as blue skies ever glow--
Seasons bloom there, ample crops grow
And peaceful are domains where birds roam
Devoid of trepidation from famine or foe.
Frolic in playgrounds where children laugh,
Grown-ups always walk tranquil serene paths,
Intellect prevails as wisdom outlaws wars
And across oceans extend gallant helping hands
As enduring love fuels brotherhood at large.
Divine is fortitude of eight billion strong
From all faiths, colors, cultural backgrounds
Striving in unison for solemn human cause:
To rid of what divides--seek common ground.
We trade, we innovate, we build, we believe
We share, we live, let every nation be
We learn, we educate, respect one another
We argue, we listen, and confer with honor--
Such is global paradigm of model new world.

As I listen to the lark’s surreal melody to her mate.
I wonder does she ever feel there’s too much on her plate?
Ever beside him juggling, tediously feathering the nest,
in her discomfort struggling, incubating without rest.
I wonder if in her daydreams does she laze as her mind lingers
in bygone days pursued by teams, of young and gallant singers?
Or does she occupy her days with tending her small brood
not entertaining winsome ways as gaping nibs crave food?
Does he while out a’gathering, squirming tidbits for their young,
ever give way to lathering ‘cause his work is never done?
Does his keen eye ever wander over lighter creamy breasts
allowing himself to ponder his days of youthful quests,
or does his steadfast honor seek but to gather and bring home
supper for each tiny beak never thinking once to roam?
As I hear the song bird warble, with expectancy to her mate
I’m thankful for each morsel placed in love upon my plate.
And listening to the lark refrain his bride’s devoted call,
I find being called a birdbrain the best compliment of all.
Of all the flowers God has made,
there are those cast in purple shade;
some small with petals, hug the ground
and others, bristled- slim, but sound.
But- grandest is a taller one
that stands up straight beneath the sun.
Upon its top, a purple crown
of loops and swirls so soft, like down.
It stately stands with fronds of green
that gently curve to grace the scene,
uplifting them toward the sky;
God's work of art to dignify.
Alone, or marching four abreast,
along a wall or pathway blessed,
the Iris stands so proud and tall;
this lovely flower does enthrall.
