Eve of Eternity

She couldn't contain her rhapsody demeanor much more
hugging her husband and gushing with excitement as he closed the door
the third class cabin was modest but she thought it would do
finally spending time together in this steerage cabin room

After dining together and playing cards with some other passengers
they retired to their cabin and did some reading till their eyes tired
then they spooned together in the darkness of the room
and made passionate love being they were on their honeymoon

Sound asleep till they we're abruptly awaken by a violent jarring
finding out from people running about it was from an icebergs scarring
throwing on their overcoats they we're thrown two lifejackets
and fought their way up to the top deck amidst all the panic

Their weary eyes saw the last lifeboat being lowered down to the ocean
many brave men staying behind waving trying not to show emotion
the newlyweds hugged each other while their faces wept
about to go down with the ship into the fathomless depths

They held hands while trying with all their might to hold on and grip
as the ship rose up perpendicular making them and others slip
the ship now offered nothing but quietus to the passengers on board
as they both plummeted in slow motion down to the ocean floor

Some survivors in the Titanic lifeboats watched with pitiful awe
while others who lost loved ones lost control and bawled
the ones who lost many possessions tried not to show too much enmity
while the newlyweds love story would last for all eternity.

Hopeless and Filled With Heartache

Tell me why doe’s the wind blow,
When it seems that almost anything can over power this boat,
The waves rise slowly and surely a storm is on its way,
A day of innocence equating beauty,
For tomorrow may fall,
And today is already gone,
I've decided that tonight is the night,
That I set love aside,
This whole time we're provoking each other in a blinding violence,
The ship rocked and I plummeted into the sea,
And you dove after me,
But now you know that I’m cold,
The mast snaps and the ship floods,
We wash up on a shore and you seek us shelter,
Crying out my name you try to resuscitate me,
Keep your hands on my chest and wait for a beat,
I'll keep your trust in my arms and pain in my feet
We will all fall in the end.
As the time to rise approaches
No one will take responsibility
So tell me why does the wind blow?

Premium Member Frozen Side of The Sun

Turning over in a ruffled bed,
stark red numbers sear 4 a.m. into bloodshot corneas.
Nothing but darkness creeps through threadbare curtains, frozen in place.
A desolate silence becomes deafening, as birdsong no longer crescendos—
what would have been the breaking of dawn.

It's been six years now since our brightest star was thrown out of orbit,
exposing the frozen side of the sun.
No longer does our planet experience the warmth of its radiation,
nor the glow of its solar flares.

Within a fraction of a second, humanity was plunged into an everlasting night.
Temperatures plummeted; mass hysteria was at its peak.
Crops perished within hours to days,
as the new icy tundra eclipsed once-thriving farmlands.
The birth of a perpetual Ice Age was at hand.

Power grids crystallized and snapped.
Cities crumbled; small towns were blotted out,
disappearing off the map, never to be seen again.

Death's gelid hand spared but a few souls—
holed up in a scientific research bunker in the Arctic.
We are but the unlucky few who get to “live” in this glacial purgatory,
wandering aimlessly forevermore.

Premium Member The Wind I Rode

The wind I rode was a northeastern gale
With a downpour of sleet and balls of hail

Wind at my face, plummeted with ice
Whore for a friend, needle for a vice

I was as lost inside as a soul could be
As the war forever raged inside of me

I once blamed the Lord for my fate
I was full of anger and living on hate

Then one day something happened to me
I said, “Forgive me Lord and he set me free.”

My body blasted with tattoos of hate
I accepted the Lord and changed my fate

Since then my life has been really cool
Bought me a home and returned to school

I love my children and adore my wife
God has blessed me with a wonderful life

And I’m positive these words are true
God’s there waiting to do the same for you

Premium Member Surfing the Air

The breeze perfectly snaked up the mountain,
Through bushes, over rocks, towards me.
I leant back, pulling my wing up, it bloated in full,
Then hovered above the trees.

I stood there, both hands working the lines,
Looking out across the empty.
And I casually stepped off the cliff, “Was there enough air?” I thought.
Yes, there was plenty.

The thermal soared me straight up, into the vast,
Below me everything became small.
I flew up so high, I was part of the sky,
My life begged this wing not to stall.

Then, all of a sudden, I popped out of the thermal,
My wing crumpled into a small nothing,
I plummeted in that momentary second, it opened again,
This wing was only bluffing.

Of course I was at the mercy of the air,
As it roared like the ocean and waves.
It took me silently over the cemetery of its victims,
An air cemetery full of its graves.

For hours I surfed, predicting the swell,
Riding breaks and soaring off the crest.
And then I cruised back to the Earth, landing on terra firma,
Feeling heaps, and way less stressed.

Paragliding was my life, for a while,
It was my source of unwind, loosen up, and relax.
What things relax you, how do you chill and compose,
Loosening up to the max?

Life’s Journey

An adventure begins – a seed plummeted into a liquid pool.
A ripple arises – waves increase, they continue to expand.
They gain girth – they run across the crystalline surface of time.
They absorb much – their journey begins to wane.
They touch the shore – dissipate and are no more.

The Ghost

On my way to the Northern of Namibia,
between Kalkveld and Otjiwarongo,
I saw a woman next to the road,
a tall, battered figure, with blood-stained cloths,
eyes glows yellow in the light of moon,
long pointed teeth in a red colored mouth,
feet that ended in claws rather than toes.

Frightened, I start praying,
met by an unnatural cold,
sweating profusely, unable to stop shaking,
the temperature around me plummeted,
my heart hammered so hard it hurt my ribs,
I shrieked in fright and slammed on my brakes,

I screamed as she leapt at my window,
her clawed hands striking the glass,
I put my foot down on the accelerator,
and the car leapt forward,
she ran alongside the car,
keeping up easily and striking at me again and again.

Red light swirled around her like mist,
and she pointed after me,
her mouth moving though I could not make out the words.
I jerked my attention back to the road,
afraid what might happen to me if my car ran off the road.

I made it to Otjiwarongo in record time
and flung myself out of the car,
pounding on my uncles door frantically,
looking behind me to see if the demon-faced woman had followed me.

Flight of Icarus

With wax and feathers
Strapped to his arms,
Icarus took flight like a bird,
Escaping Crete,
The labyrinth far below.

Forgetting his father’s advice,
Feeling freedom,
Like a moth to a light,
He soared towards the sun.

The wax melted and he moulted,
Then down he plummeted,
To the ocean below,
Where the waves washed over his corpse.

Zephyrus Within
                by Odin Roark

Do we fly away
Drift away
Stay away
Or were we ever real?

How fleeting the impressions
Plummeted by the New today
Dismissing yesterday as the Old
Daring tomorrow to invent further questioning

The labels abound
Father
Mother
Sister
Brother
Daughter
Son
Lover
Yet how much a part of each other
Are we?

Might it be
We are but separated cells
Incubated into life
Rendered a sameness by others
Yet in reality
Thirsting for fulfillment
Compelled to wander aimlessly
We stumble through existence?

To argue such a theory
Is to know
Along the way
Seasoned lives find
Connections sever

That like all of nature
Separations occur
Drifting inevitable
Attachments wane
Collective experience
Fulfilling the essence of life

Still…

Such eventual enfoldment
Leaves us free to adventure
To know self-determined identity
Requires but to hoist liberation’s sails
Catch tomorrow’s wind
Leave behind misbegotten time

And if true…

To watch from afar
The flotsam of the past
Is to know destiny is of our own making
Not a determination by others
That sweetness of air
Breathed from Zephyrus within
Unshackles the relationship with self

All An Illusion

All an illusion

It's all an illusion.
No matter where I am, I am alway just,
sitting there. Unaware, with a blank stare messy hair
and probably the same clothes that I always wear.
Wrangler jeans, and a button up, sleeved. (period)
Because, I hate T-shirts.
Hate them!
In fact, I'd be fine if they all just disappeared!
Into thin air. I'm serious.
the plague, wasting, predators, or aliens came to take em!
They'd say.
Or they inbred too much,
and their lineage diminished
intelligence forsook em.
Gene pool plummeted
they became disoriented, wrangled and out-competed
and just sort of drifted away,
They'd say,
it was probably believing everything they see on the news.
That led to their doom.
That, and marrying too young, having litters,
of far more than they could possibly support on their wage!
Stupid T-Shirts
And later, when documentaries are made on why their society caved.
they'd say in five languages: “Stupid T-shirts”
You'll see em today, at the Walmart or on display in friendly glass cases,
With nothing but idiotic slogans, and quotes from bad movies
“That's what she said”
Or some sort of shark-cat reaching with fangs and claws up at
a bikini wearin slice of pizza...
They call it “Paws”
Myself, I'd rather be shirtless in a game of seven card stud.
I'd rather be seen strung up dangling by my hair parasailing through Canadian Territory,
and mistaken for a chipmunk. Covered in varmints blood, Or spend my weekend servin sweet tea to
Donald Judd.
Than even be seen wearing one.
No dignity in em,
Just picture Grant, Lee or even Sam Houston
Wearing a shirt with an arrow
That reads:
“I'm with Stupid”

Resurrection

Who could have known of their watch
Who could have told of their suspicion
Who could have told
That they were the harbingers
To my resurrection?

Me, I sat there
Plummeted
Engrossed in my ingratitude
Occasionally
Languishing
Betraying the illusion

And I remember, too,
Lingering in the thirsty
Emptiness
Mummified
Entwined in my solitude.

Sometimes
Before the Eolithic era
Which refracted by dioptric
Prometheus moulded his man

There were no leaves on branches
No bark on the trunks
No undergrowth in the forest
No sweat on the pores.

I opened the cataract
on my veins
the silence of the stars
surged forth
down the rivers on my palm-
leaving deserts behind.

Sensing disturbance
In my oblivion
Reproaching my rebirth
I reached out for the present
Leaving no spoor.

Centuries after
I arrived at the end of my hibernation
At the beginning of their quest
I had not solicited, I swear!

Mother, they said
These cracks on your face
In the shape of nations
Who will mend them?

Those aliens
Who daily defile your rivers
Make love to your beaches
Shitting on your mountains
Who will excoriate their oddity?

Those derelicts
Shaking your constellation
To balance the ecology:
Who will indite the epilogue?

Those dirty mercenaries
Who raped your plains
Plundered your joy:
Who will expiate the outrage?

Who will resurrect
Your majesty?
Who will deflect
The holocaust?

Premium Member Thunder Rolled Across the Sky

The calm before the storm opened up with fury with unnerving silence, filled the air with almost complete darkness.

A storm crept within, purely focused. It swelled up and draws through an angry filled breath. With a vicious voice, eased back, exploded once and for all with wet droplets of rain.

A wrenching sound with a crack of light and fire lighted up the skies. Orange flickering lights of fire was shaking everything through and through reflecting on the valley.

The silence was interrupted seconds later.
The fury inside continues to form.
It punched a fist again, with a raging crack.
Horrific piercing sounds and bright lights danced, filling the air with a roar of flaming Lions.

Thunder rolled across the sky. It couldn't stop itself, and starts opening the symphony once more. Fueled by adrenaline, thunderbolts of pure terror flashed. Out-of-control slamming and crashing, an awful electric shock waves cracked, plummeted to the ground connecting and sinking into the soaked soil.

A surprisingly calm came over and soothed the storm within, moving on with a view off the top of the trees and blue sky beyond.

The battle was won.

Precious crystal clear rain soaked the life on the ground.

crystallized rime of frozen ire - craving to thaw as morning dew
dense compact icicle of wrath's revenge emanating - now in subdue
when plummeted - no escape death's end grave in BLUE
scene of God's hands masterpiece where love and miracle in glue
men sculpted and molded the new milieu
mourning tears line of truth - skew
now, Philippines - tropical country now in woo
woe, fear - nestling hearts of unknown innocence ensue?
this is just the start of a great "FELL", what must we do?

new state of grave - thousands died begging for prayers ...IN OURS, PUT YOUR SHOE

Premium Member The Useless Chase

Addicted to romance, I’ve tried in vain
to resurrect the unrestrained delight
I felt so long ago one summer night -
excitement of the type no one can feign.
I had it once, and I could not abstain
from tasting it. It made my soul take flight.
Then back to earth I plummeted. I write
to bring it back because it has been slain.

Romance is destined not to be revived.
It’s slain by woes and all that’s commonplace.
Life’s demons stole it; now I feel deprived.
It’s drained from me! I miss its fond embrace.
And so with poetry I have contrived
to bring it back. Alas – a useless chase.

Aug. 26, 2019 for Emile Pinet's Eight Word Challenge Poetry Contest
The 8 words used in this Italian Sonnet in order of how they appear: addicted/ vain/ abstain/ slain/ destined/ woes/ demons/ drained
Note: I do not know why poetrysoup does not correctly identify the rhyme pattern of the second stanza of this poetry form. The first part is abbaabba. Here is what Google says for the finishing sestet: Some of the most common rhyme schemes for the sestet are cdecde, cdcdcd, cddcdd, and cddece. My preference is cdcdcd.
