I’m on my way into the grocery store
when I see him huddled near the shop doorway
In his outstretched hand
an empty coffee cup
I throw in a coin or two
smile, and ask his name
I’m Jack ma’am’ he says politely; and this is Benji ...
it’s only then that I notice a small brown terrier
his black nose poking out
from underneath a stained sleeping bag
Benji leaps up and wags his tail excitedly
at the mention of his name
I stoop down and he nuzzles my hand
I’ve a lump in my throat as I tell Jack
Benji reminds me of my dog Sam
who I lost last summer
Oh, how I miss the comfort of my pet
Jack’s blue eyes fill with tears
it's then I discover
he’s been on the streets for a few months
Benji’s my only true friend, he says
He’s never let me down -
not like my folks back at home
I can see Benji is well cared for
the exact opposite of Jack
who looks like he’s not eaten a square meal in days
I rise to do my shopping
and pass them both on the way out
I drop a brown carrier bag into Jack’s lap
he opens it like it’s Christmas Day
Inside are several pouches of dog food
and some substantial sandwiches
It is but a small gift,
yet I can see it means the world to him
he reaches up and touches my hand
I’m sorry son,
I wish I could do more to help
but I only have a small widow’s pension
I walk away,
knowing how fortunate I am
"This is no life, just a way of surviving another day"
I’ve had ups and downs in my life, but ...
“I've never been where they've been”

A pretty girl in pleated dress of red,
with collar laced in white beneath her throat
and matching bow upon her small blonde head,
is glancing round the chapel. I take note.
Though nails on little hands show grown-up paint,
she emanates no guile. She’s unaware
That in this world are some who wish to taint
all innocence; for no one do they care!
She nuzzles her dad’s face as on his knee
she’s sitting now - his sweet beloved daughter.
What menace lurks, from which she could not flee?
What evil lessons might one day be taught her?
She hugs her daddy’s chest; I watch and pray
she’ll live to hold a child her own one day.

Sonnet
I remember a riding pony I had as a lad which was born blind. A filly she was born during an
Arkansas blizzard and we did not know that she was blind at first for we kept our horses in our
barn for several days because of the winter storm. We all had fallen in love with her by the time
we learned she was blind and could not bear to put her down. I remember training her to ride
after she was mature enough and I named her “Pet” for she was my riding pony.
We spent many happy days together riding inside the green pastures.
I remember she never refused to let me ride her even the first time. And she learned very
quickly to respond to my voice and she trusted in every command that I gave her.
I would say, “easy Pet” when we would come to rough terrain or an eroded ditch in the
pasture. She would slow to a careful walk, in response to my voice.
I would ride her down into the lower part of the pasture to the creek in hottest part of the day.
Pet could of course smell the water and when she would come near the bank of the creek I
would again say, “easy Pet” and she would respond by slowing to a snail’s pace down the steep
bank.
Pet would wade out about belly depth into the water where she would drink her fill of the cool
clear water. And I would use her back as a diving board launch and swim to my heart’s delight.
After she was through drinking I would climb on her back again and give her head to her and
she would trot to the barn where she knew I would give her treats, such as carrots, apples,
sugar cubes and so on.
I remember I never did have the heart to make her run full speed as
I supposed that her blindness was burden enough in her life for her to bear.
It is said of truth that one gets to keep in heaven those things of this life that were loved sufficiently.
I know that my beloved Pet shall be my precious playmate again in the heavenly ethereal of the Spirit.
Pet lives on even now in the depths of my childhood memories. Her loving low neighs as she
approached me by smell, and her nuzzles into my pocket for the sugar cubes she knew would
always be there for her. In heaven I shall see my Pet again, and this time she will see me,
maybe for the first time.

Velvet Night
On a warm, velvet summer night,
When moonlight drips in a soft SIGH,
The scents of LILACS bathe starlight
And CAJOLE crickets to reply.
MISTY castles enchant SLUMBER
On a warm, velvet summer night
Spent hearts dream in shades of umber
In mystical moonstruck half-light.
Midnight mistrals, rufous bobwhites,
Chirp with sweet sonata finesse
On a warm, velvet summer night
Soft breath of summer seeks to bless.
ETCHING calm into WEARY eyes
Sweet wine of sleep nuzzles midnight
Dulcet GUITAR blooms – sweet tones rise –
On a warm, velvet summer night.

Secluded Lovers Nest.
.
Alone as one in our secluded nest
Made of love to be forever together
Heart to heart and heaven blessed
Lost in the cozy moment
Giving and sharing awakening blissful kisses
And sweet tender caress
.
Eliciting a deep flow of warm emotions
And exquisite mounting sensations
Freedom to express what mere words cannot express
With teasing strokes and loving touches
Increasing tension to a satisfying liberation
.
Silver trails planted upon a sensitive yielding
Smooth receptive sensitive landscape
The secret garden tendered
As two bodies rive with pleasure
And weave in the midst of a firry lake
Assenting to a higher place
Only twin flames can venture
Few travel with the sweetest pain
Upon such a thrilling sensual adventure
.
The waves of hungered passion
Now as a placid lake
Warm embers still aglow
The lavish feast now satisfied
Wrapped up safe in each other's tender arms
Pecks and butterfly kisses
And the glazed look of love
In my lover's eyes
.
She gently nuzzles her lovely head upon my bare chest
I stroke her cascading fragrant tresses
With loving fingers of heartfelt tenderness
I tell her how much I love and cherish
The angel by my side
Two kindred souls and entwined hearts
Brought together by devine providence
My world my life my one and only faithful bride.

Romanticism
Little sways in shower streams
bring on fond memories of sweet
Old Town. Fountains, heavenly
guides. Bricks and rubble take
witness to unheard passions and
half hearted lies. Flats and floating
coats. Subtle splashes on cobbled
roads. We spin and glide between
street lamps. There’s a longing in
the back of a lengthy taxi ride.
A thumb nuzzles where tears have
left thin, jaded lines. I dream of hot
springs, for more than shower water.
For you, you who can be rid of the
knots around the bend of my spine.
For my sweet Old Town, for what can
only have been love made tangible,
comprehensible and personified.

The world feels cleansed
After a gentle spring rain
Before July’s monster humidity takes over
Cat and I luxuriate in the freshness
A silent commune
Reverent appreciation
He nuzzles my arm affectionately.
Licked by his sandpaper tongue, I feel loved.
We sit without uttering a sound
Two souls in April
Feeling the gloriousness
of God’s gentle rain

The old man and his faithful dog relish their daily stroll.
'Tis the autumn of their lives, alas, time doth take its toll!
He's not as spry nor is his dog as rowdy as he used to be.
He rests upon a bench, the dog's head reposing upon his knee.
The old man muses and scratches his old pal's ears,
Recalling the companionship they've enjoyed o'er the years.
The dog gazes with soulful eyes and nuzzles a gnarled hand,
Ever alert to obey the old man's every subtle command!
He got him as a puppy when he was just a few weeks old.
The old man took pity on the little runt, truth be told!
But with tender love and care he grew to be a handsome lad,
And became the most loyal friend the old man ever had!
He recalls simple play when he tossed him balls and sticks,
And teaching the old fella the usual silly doggy tricks.
The times his grandkids yanked his ears and pulled his tail.
The patient dog would playfully chase them without fail!
No more are they able to tramp o'er fragrant fields of clover,
And their days of hunting game and birds, alas, are over.
They're both content to spend their evenings nigh a glowing flame,
The dog lying at the old man's feet, dreaming of chasing game!

Rhyme
I saw a tap-dancer with
Squirming sheaf of vigor
Toes tapping as if dancing.
Is he hoping for a rendezvous?
His Dachshund-clan romance?
Prancing around like ponies
With gentle nose, silent eyes
With sweet licks and nuzzles.
Care free clan, if they like it
It can never be of anyone else.
If they take it anything from anywhere
It’s theirs and of nobody else’s.
The four legged hairy puppets
With all the fascinating features.
I don’t think a dachsie thinks of money
Or fame or other worldly pleasures
But thinking of the pure love of God
Remembering always those moments
By waggling his tail with pure love and joy.
When He made him to brighten up
The day of Adam and Eve and then
Christening them as “dog”, a reflection
Of His own as one looks into the mirror.

The horse in my mind, gallops away,
His hooves, beat inside my skull,
Like the waves, that pound, upon our strong hull
I hold tight, but the vision won’t stay
I see him now, that mighty white stallion
Galloping freely, upon the wet shore
The sound of his hooves, makes me need him the more
An escape from this old pale galleon
And so at last, we row to the beach
I have travelled so far for this dream
Prancing majestically, his eagerness shows
yet still nervous, he stays out of reach
Slowly he paces toward me, snorting a cloud of steam
I know now my journey is over, as he gently nuzzles my nose
I have selected the theme of 'Horses'

Italian Sonnet
The child sits in the sun drenched meadow
appearing to stare very intensely afar,
what captures the child's interest?
Nothing that is obvious to any of us.
He seems to be listening intently
is it to the robin who is singing?
The wind brushes across his skin
and he shivers as it touches him.
His mother quietly approaches
gently takes his hand in hers.
He clings tightly and nuzzles her
drawing in her scent to his nostrils.
The sad truth is that this child
is both deaf and blind
no sounds he hears
and no pictures he sees.
He is trapped in a silent world.
And will never see his mothers face.
yet he recognizes her scent
he feels the wind on his skin.

Nevaeh ( Song ).
.
How could I forget that day
She stole my heart and took my breathe away
More beautiful than words could ever say
.
Suddenly I was in a dream
Amongst the most beautiful flowers
I’d ever seen
.
I watched the sunrise in her deep doe tawny eyes
As butterflies fluttered deep inside
And an overwhelming feeling came over me
I knew she was the one for me
.
How could such an Angel exist
I melted in her arms as we kissed…..
.
Chorus.
.
Naveah..,,…..
She is everything to me
And I could never imagine where I’d be
Without her love..
She calmed my restless ocean
Filling me with the sweetest of emotion
And taught me how to live again
And took away my emptiness
And healed my pain…….
.
Solo.
.
I could never count the kisses I placed upon her lips
Or the times I run my finger through her hair
And stroked her dace with my tender fingertips
.
And after we’ve made love
With the ember still aglow
I love how she holds me
And nuzzles her head upon my chest
After taking me to places
No one could ever know….
.Suddenly I was in a dream
Amongst the most beautiful flowers
I’d ever seen
.
Bridge.
.
I watched the sunrise in her deep doe tawny eyes
As butterflies fluttered deep inside
And an overwhelming feeling came over me
I knew she was the one for me……..
.
Chorus.
.
Naveah ...
She is everything to me
And I could never imagine where I’d be
Without her love..
She calmed my restless ocean
Filling me with the sweetest of emotion
And taught me how to live again
And took away my emptiness
And healed my pain
.
My world and forever girl….

Haiku
Since she was three months old,
Samii just loves to be with her toy mouse.
The thick black fabric that was once a shoulder pad of a jacket
Was stitched and embroidered by me with tender-loving care,
And transformed into a toy mouse that has become her special friend.
She drags her toy everywhere, from the kitchen to the family room,
To the bedroom, and even, to the bathroom.
As Samii lays on the sofa, she savors those caressing licks
Against the fabric filled with catnip.
She just adores that toy mouse!
Sometimes she plays so rough with her claws extended,
And nuzzles with such vigor.
But when she lays on the kitchen floor,
Absolutely no one can touch her toy mouse at all.
Since she's so intoxicated by that aroma of catnip d'or.
For the past ten years, I've watched Samii sleep with her toy mouse
Between her paws, or otherwise, right along side her.
I can tell that she just adores that toy mouse!
And even if she has a morsel to eat,
Samii always returns to her toy mouse wherever it may be.

Dramatic Verse
"Today don't beg, don't ask, just thank God in silence for all the blessings in your life. Each morning brings a hidden blessing; a blessing which is unique to that day. You deserve all the good things that happen to you."
~ Paulo Coelho
Auspicious azure atoll with augmented aurora
Bounteous bells bringing in buoyant breeze
Chiming cornucopia of coloured circles
Drawing drapes of dulcet dreams in delight
Emanating effervescence of enchanting echoes
Frivolously flying fervent fruits of father's faith
Gratitude garnered graciously in gaiety golden gospels
Humming harmonious hopes of humane harbinger
Iridescent immaculate ink of inbound ideologies
Jubilant jar of judicious joy in juggles
Kernels of kindness kindred in kaleidoscope
Luminescent leaves with lustre of love language
Mother's memoirs of mesmerizing morning mellow
Nurturing nascent nights with neon nuzzles
Opulent overwhelming opportunities of optimism
Pinnacles of permeating pleasure peeking in panacea
Quintessential quilt of quietude quenching quests
Radiant realms of rapport reviving a rhapsody
Soft silver slumber sparkling in sanguine serendipity
Translucent threads of tenacious tangible treasures
Unearthed utopia upholding ushered upbeats of urges
Veracious variance vibrating valiantly in vicinity
Wonderful white wisps of warm whispering waves
Xenon xing from xenial xylophones of xander xenia
Yellow yarns of yonder yesterdays yielding youthfulness
Zooming with zillion zestful zigzags to zealous zenith
