Velvet Night

Eight Words 2 8-8-24 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Velvet Night On a warm, velvet summer night, When moonlight drips in a soft SIGH, The scents of LILACS bathe starlight And CAJOLE crickets to reply. MISTY castles enchant SLUMBER On a warm, velvet summer night Spent hearts dream in shades of umber In mystical moonstruck half-light. Midnight mistrals, rufous bobwhites, Chirp with sweet sonata finesse On a warm, velvet summer night Soft breath of summer seeks to bless. ETCHING calm into WEARY eyes Sweet wine of sleep nuzzles midnight Dulcet GUITAR blooms – sweet tones rise – On a warm, velvet summer night.

Hi Sam, hope you are well - your imagination is unfathomable and your quatern is a work of art. It seems that 'On a warm. velvet summer night the night becomes alive with crickets coaxed out to play, and 'rufous bobwhites, chirp with sweet sonata finesse' and 'Dulcet GUITAR blooms - sweet tones rise' 'ETCHING calm into WEARY eyes, sweet wine of sleep nuzzles midnight'. It sounds like a night to remember, or definitely a night to look forward to experiencing. BLESSINGS, Jennifer.

The given words are so beautifully and ingeniously inserted into the right grooves. Besides you have written it in excellent Quatern form... not an easy task with a lovely refrain. Only a gifted poet can do this in such a remarkable way. "ETCHING calm into WEARY eyes/Sweet wine of sleep nuzzles midnight/ Dulcet GUITAR blooms – sweet tones rise – On a warm, velvet summer night." Dear Sam, so sweet is your summer velvet night. I can hear the dulcet guitar tunes. A remarkable entry for the contest... a sure winner!

How dreamy is your quatern dear samszy! I did the same form for this contest and i must say i love how youv woven all the promots here and how youv also rhymed . Sigh and reply such creative rhymes and also your refrain “ On a warm, velvet summer night” how captivating is the way you weave and paint imagery. “ Dulcet GUITAR blooms – sweet tones rise –“ i love how you used dulcet there! Beautiful! Youv done this form in such an elegant and mellifluous manner! Pleasure reading this! Best wishes

Dearest Inky, I am truly blessed by your beautiful compliments and all of your thoughtful feedback! Thank you dear friend. I think that finding new and creative ways to use words is part of the joy of writing. You do this so well. Your poems are an inspiring walk through the thesaurus! Just an FYI "blooms" are a specific guitar playing technique. Thought it would be fun to do a little word play. Hope you are doing well. Sending you blessings on blooms of night blooming jasmine, dear friend!

Hi Gary! Can you tell how far behind I am in answering the emails of friends! Sigh! I love your analogy to a jigsaw puzzle and putting the words together like putting together a puzzle. That is exactly how I felt writing this poem. I do love warm summer nights and these words seem to wonderfully describe that experience. Last night the crickets were on full display - a lovely lullaby. I always appreciate your visits and ever so thoughtful feedback. Thank you. Sending you blessings and cheers! Here's to summer nights!

Hi Paula, so glad you enjoyed this poem. I love warm summer nights when everything is so still and there is a harmony of sounds and sights. Have to admit I have a hard time letting go of summer, even the warm nights. But, before we know it, autumn, with all of its glory, will be here. Sending you many blessings!
