The ice-white-capped teeth
Smile and beguile the contacted eye
‘Java’ white-bright tee shirts dazzle
Plastic letters ironed on right-side in
Shoulders the body making a statement?
Speaks to me of this century’s impurities
Air fresheners smelling of ‘spice’
Coats the hazy circulating sun
Press-on nails make a statement
All this is in the name of ‘add-ons’!
Linens yellow with age and crinkle fine
Woolens shrink if washed in hot water
Cottons now stretch with added spandex
Silks colourful and light, billow with mirth
Brighten the day to darken the night!
Vitamins and creams make the skin turn young
Micro-wave quickens re-packaged (fake-foods) ‘boxed’
Time ‘replays’ when circling the moon-beamed skies!
Where has it gone
Those lazy days of sunshine
Making the flowers excel in their presence
What has happened, where did it go.
It's alright, just a seasonal change
The calendar is slipping towards Autumn
Soon we will have those shivering, wet days
Some sunlight, to begin with then
with the shortening days, the sun loses its way.
Before the hoar frost raises its white head,
the frozen dew, can kill a plant at once.
We will bring in the abundant harvest of corn,
the allotment holders will, pick their runner beans.
To take into their kitchen and cook in hot water
Drain, dash slithers of butter, twist or two of black pepper
Heaven on a plate.
Morning awakens, I look out of the window
Amazed to see a dusting of light snow
I rush to the garden, with icy fingers
I brush the white cold snow from the delicate plants
Covering them with special wrap to keep them warm. "
This is definitely a message advising us
To keep warm, take care
Remember the old folk who live alone
One day you might be the one living there.

As preacher’s daughters we had to toe the line,
But sometimes our halo slipped and we weren’t too divine.
When my twin sister and I were 15 we rebelled against the rules,
And pulled a fast one on our parents, just to look good in school.
We wanted to pierce our ears and be like the other girls in school,
And forget we were preacher’s kids for once, and just be cool!
Our parents emphatically refused, so they thought our hands were tied.
But we wouldn’t take no for an answer…we wouldn’t be denied.
We came up with a sneaky plan to forge our parents name,
Giving us permission to pierce our ears… we had no shame!
We went to the department store, and the dirty deed was done.
We didn’t think our parents would notice … we thought we had won!
We had lied and forged and were headed towards hell,
But we were only thinking, “Boy those earrings are really looking swell!”
For a few weeks, we wore our hair down and they never knew.
Then one day I forgot, put my hair in a ponytail, and it all came unglued!
My Dad was home and noticed, and I heard his wrath.
He was not at all happy, and was on the warpath!
I figured if I was going down, my twin would too,
So my loyalty went out the window, and I said, “She did it too!”
We were in hot water with my parents for quite a while,
And ashamed of ourselves, so at home we went the extra mile.
But one good thing that came out of our sinful indiscretion,
Was that we got to keep our earrings, our brand new obsession!
WHAT I’M MADE OF...
A health assessment is needed
My eating’s under scrutiny
My husband told them, he’s told me,
“Gotta drink more water, less “Iced Tea”
.
Basic body measurements take
And want my body mass index
Plus waist to hip circumference
And variety of other specs.
Told me, to turn our evening stroll
“Into a two mile power walk”
What an unreal crazy idea
Time I start to complain and balk!’
Told to “sizzle in hot water”
Thought they meant me... in a “Hot Tub”
Nope!…Naked veggies, potatoes
After, they get a healthy scrub.
Said, “ Gotta see what I’m made of”
So.. when I’m scheduled to come back,
I’ll bring menu’s to show them…
Chocolate, chicken, fish and “Big Mac!

How can something be so good?
Yet forgotten!
Fragrances that call,
Attention to her beauty
Growing in the wild.
As we pass her by,
Without a care,
Or a second glance,
Not knowing the benefits,
She brings,
Edible flower and leaves,
Soothing in hot water,
Drinking or inhaling,
Alternative healing,
How wonderful a plant,
Medicine for life,
Magnificence growing,
I give her praise,
And adoration,
She infuses her perfume
Garnishing the earth
With potpourri,
Surely I thought!
God must be a woman,
So much creational flare,
Yes! So clever,
Six days she planted
The seventh! Drank its tea.

Twas the night before Christmas, up in the North Pole
The pressure of the season was taking its toll
Deadlines and long hours were causing some stress
“Some” might be an understatement. They were a mess
The elves were on strike, marching angrily outside
Chanting, “Save elves on shelves” and “Santa Lied”
And for Frosty’s sake, get the bells off these shoes
This incessant jingling has driven them to booze
The reindeer were hired, part time, to cover as scabs
But they kept flying off and no one could keep tabs
Even when they were there, they just ate everything
You do not want to see droppings eaten toys can bring
Mrs. Claus was stress eating like a hoover
Three times, we’ve had to do the Heimlich maneuver
She ripped down St Nick's mistletoe like a scroogy thief
Suffice it to say, there will be no festive tension relief
As for Santa Claus, the big man in red himself
Well he’s in hot water now for punching an elf
He denied the picketers in the last negotiation
I mean, they already get 11 months of vacation….
Everything went slower for delivery without Rudolph
He’s quit the team now, and retired to play golf
So for all the hopeful dreaming little girls and boys
About a 1/3 of them will get a few regurgitated toys
Ho Ho Ho Ho............ sorry kids

Their actions got them in hot water
They romped in the buff
Now she’s up the duff
He must find a job to support her!

THE YOLK'S ON ME
It was bath time for my twins, I played a little joke
and filled their bathtub with purple dinosaur yolk.
The bathtub discoloured, the yolk was scummy
but in the purple gloop I found a missing dummy
Into the tub I placed my little daughter
she shivered, so I poured in hot water;
alas the egg congealed, it was a huge mistake…
for their next bath time I’ll use chocolate milk shake!

There once lived a woman made of Jell-O. She jiggled and wiggled
as she walked. Invisible to most she was as clear as a window pane.
She often wore her heart on her sleeve and ended the day with washed
up colors, kind of like gelatin in hot water.
You can only imagine what happened each time it rained. Bit by bit
she would dissolve, all gelatin molecules and no grit.
Her collagen did bind but didn't stick, for often she cooled but rarely
bonded with another. She lacked courage and brave so they named her
Jello-Mellow. She craved sweeteners such as aspartame and sugar,
and when she didn't get the accolades, she got very very sad.
There once lived a lady with vibrant colors who got washed out by life.
She was a Jell-O Jiggler left at the bottom of the pan too long. Cut into more
shapes and sizes then I could remember. She lived in a box and never
got to see the world. Until one day a good soul took her home.
Together they stuck like two Jell-O Jigglers in one heart shaped box. She was kept out of the rain and she lit up like sunshine.
There once was a woman named Jell-O Jiggler, who traded her Jello for
a dollop of ice cream. You can only imagine what happened when it
rained ! Well that is a story for another day, Heh !
The End.
I can't find the sleeping pills tonight.
So, I try to swallow a bottle of vitamins,
But they are so big that I might choke,
And I'm afraid to die.
Every ledge is a spring-board to paradise,
Or a path straight to hell.
Either way, I'm afraid of heights,
And I'm afraid to die.
The end is the edge of a razor blade,
I'm in hot water and, I think of cutting.
But I hate blood and blood clots,
And I'm afraid to die.
I find some rope.
I go to the cellar and hang myself
But, I guess the ceiling isn't high enough,
And I'm afraid to die.
On the platform I wait for a ride to nowhere,
The solution is under the speeding train.
But I stop thinking because I'm scared --
And I'm afraid to die.
Either way, I am a coward:
Too scared to live,
Too scared to die.
But in my dreams I am a hero
Whose death seems to faze all,
But affect none.
I’m a trilobite, I took my leave
Nature had a shocker up its sleeve
In hot water
Air gets shorter
Things got heated and I couldn’t breathe
I’m a stegosaur and I’m long dead
I got a chill in my poor old head
My world cooled down
The leaves turned brown
I breathed my last in a cold cold bed
I’m a mammoth and I used to swarm
I lived in hope of a winter storm
The snow that lay
Melted away
I lost my life when it got too warm
I’m a human and I’ve had my fill
Of blame and shame for every ill
But humans, I’m sure
Killed no stegosaur
Our climate changes and always will
The morning calls hour
has come, as daily it does...
ahead of dawn -
The whistles, the chirps,
the lilts and caws
have come
and filled the empty air;
the air so empty all light has fallen out;
perhaps through the sieve of stars.
Holes of light leaking sight
away into the other next,
or first,
or last.
The clouds drift past;
an ever-offering Eastern sky
dribbles endless puffs of white-stuff
which drift overhead.
Heading toward the light.
Unseen streams of air
both draw and push these yet-to-rains
from beyond the skyline
to beyond the treeline.
A huff-chuffing squirrel is overhead
cavorting and exhorting
in the mulberry-leafed maple
with
leaves so big and profligate
so
as to hide every branch.
There’s an urgency to its gutturality
as it chatter-clambers through the
density of burgundy tree.
I’m in hot water again.
Soaking in the hot wet.
Writing tools all here -
Keyboard.
Tea.
Time...
The cat, important, though not a
tool.
Still, though - pressed into use,
as it were.
But the thoughts do not come.
Unlike the clouds, which we’re taught
are thoughts. Or, is it, “...unlike the thoughts,
which are like the clouds.”?
But I don't have the thoughts, undercloud
(under dark cloud)
though I am.
Only these thoughts
which I very
very do not
like.
A lone goose now.
Also undercloud.
Also, aiming East.
To light. To life.
To next. To new.
Thoughtless.
And not unclouded.
So unlike my thoughts.
"Water is the gift of life,
That makes things grow just right
So full of energy and power,
Providing light to every home and tower
By itself it can cleanse,
Dirt or an original sin
Sometimes we find ourselves in hot water,
By creating some kind of bother
Occasionally we are on thin ice,
For behavior not so nice
I prefer smooth still water,
Like a heartfelt moment that matters
Or a misty rain that falls,
Beaconing me with its call
To witness the nourishment it brings,
To every plant, tree or living thing
Including me ,
With a buoyancy
That keeps my head above water,
And a confidence I won’t falter
Because the water in the river accepts,
My burdens without regret
Floating them away,
So I am free, today"
