II. Nature's Cyclical Dance

End is not death. Changing into something new is good.
A leaf falls, then goes back into the dark soil.
Next year's flowers sleep under winter's quiet.
We fear the end, but nature shows us it's not bad.
Death is a new start.

My Anishinaabe mentor Little Deer laughed at my wide eyes.
That first forest walk, as he plucked a bright trillium —
"Cherish her fleeting beauty, but mourn her not, my friend.
This flower's death will birth a thousand more to come."
His people know life dances on; death is rebirth.

I hear them now. Those ancient voices riding wind's breath.
They speak through birch and pine... calling me back to the way —
Honoring and not fearing, the seasons' turning tides.
Each dawn's first birdsong and each brook's gentle murmuring
Echoing the rhythm pulsing through this wild...
and wondrous earth.

Let me join this cycle, rooted but free.
I'll welcome death and the return of life.
Like the forest floor, decay and new growth mix.
With every breath, I'll connect with the source.
This cycle of life, death, and being born again is a gift.

IV. Interconnected Web

Teach your children the ethos of
   the rampart-
of the earth under their feet.
Is it more than just soil? It's heaven —
The Chosen Hallowed Retreat
Where we connect

For you must see life as fully rich with
    the resounding vibrations of our
kindred lives on this sacred earth.
    Our temporary home.
For whatever happens to her
    happens to our kindred race.

All life is connected. Wouldn't you agree?
For all life is like
    blood that unites a family,
by a process of no creation.
For there is no division. One must see
Humanity and other forms of life
    are knitted together...
    by the fabric of existence.
Which are only a part of
    circle of life cycle.
Each time we do, we are getting
our bodies intertwined.

Just like the Hopi who revere sacred mesas,
    we must honor our...
Ancestral wisdom -
    winding through desert canyons.
A sacred thread is planting -
our stories into the mother land.
Into the wind-carved rocks' etched. In coyotes'...
  starry night songs!
We hear earth's eternal rhythms,
    guiding us along.

Feel the warmth of the sun-soaked soil
    beneath bare feet.
Perhaps, the cool, refreshing
    touch of mountain -
    stream water.
Let us smell the wild sage carried on
    a gentle breeze.
And hear the wind swept leaves of
    ancient trees.
In these moments, we connect to
    the heartbeat of the earth.

As Katsina spirits teach through
   their dances that
We are temporary guests
    on this sacred land.
Yes, stewards of its beauty, bounty,
    and balance. —
Our legacy layered by our
    own deeds' hands.
Through each mindful step and every
    gentle touch
We praise and honor
    the interconnectedness web of life.

So Must Stop! and ask:

How now can we translate this
    intimate and spiritual connection into
    a harmonic coexistence and illiminate
    the discordant strife?

His wish for us all, preserve what's pure
He twisted and wiggled, his butt did a dance
It occurred to him, he had ants in his pants!

(1)
Strophe
Slowly and slowly fly the mighty feathers:
the uncanny wrath bearer, the poacher's prey,
the bald bizzare stigmatic cryptic creature, the ecology's majestic role player;
the curtain raiser of ecosystem's air purifier.

Alas! Your iconographic role is omitted,
you, the saviour of the mortal race
from the contagious diseases.
Astounded! How you uncontaminated dear environment.
Your poaching has taken away
the soul of the balanced ecosystem;
crucial is saviour friend's presence, on the verge of extinction plight might have horrid ripple effect!

(2)
Antistrophe
Irony! The friend's void can't be substituted by mere replicas of sustainable development;
the diminishing existence will
drastically affect the local food webs!
How alluring to have a glimpse
of the hunch and tuck of the bird's head in the cold,
flapping and fluttering the wings,
stretching the neck in the heat!
You, remain aloft for hours,
soars gracefully on long broad wings;
with dazzling sharp eyes
from the highlands to pick the carrion!

(3)
Epode
Your iconographic presence is being honoured by the myths, legends, fables of civilizations from ages.
High time to contemplate, to introspect,
to jump into the ecosystem's integral bandwagon:
as pivotal to rescue and redeem the bird's friendly endangered existence!

We Have Only Ourselves To Blame

The way we live now seems barely the same,
Enduring one ecological disaster after another.
It’s obvious we have only ourselves to blame
For changing the climate and the weather.

Enduring one ecological disaster after another:
Rampant forest fires, pollution, desertification.
For changing the climate and the weather -
Too much industrialization and deforestation!

Rampant forest fires, pollution, desertification…
Species extinction from loss of natural habitats;
Too much industrialization and deforestation!
We’re destroying everything, everywhere, like spoiled brats.

Species extinction from loss of natural habitats???
It’s obvious we have only ourselves to blame!
We’re destroying everything, everywhere, like spoiled brats.
The way we live now seems barely the same.

Story of Sacred Tree

STORY OF SACRED TREE

the saga of the sacred tree."

tall tree
lofty
very high
thick leaves

dim green soaking hot
bind poison

let's cut.

don't.

must be cut down.

oh..

let's knock it down!!

then make a replacement
luxurious and natural walking paths.

the tree is 250 years old.
underneath there is a well
become rivers of thousands
flowing to the top of the leaf.

it's an inch under the cloud

let's saw and fix,
take a beautiful natural path
there are elephants, there are birds, there are ants as big as goats,
there is a pair of mice
cute like minnie and mickey
there is
can
I really want natural
our
for
replacement
WITH
natural of course.

Ecology, Humanity, Me, & Tea

A fox at the altar.
Bee nests to seek before light.
A rabbit where the fox’d trot.
(Foxes have only ever trot. Perhaps fast, or nimbly, or slow - they do not walk.
They do not run.)

Morning flies...
And the sun is slow to rise.
The clouds are only a smidge more awake than I.
Sleep-rolling by.

A duck flies, no tumbles, no whazzles past.
No more gainly than when waddling on sod.
Morning hawks take to the barest of first updrafts;
rising like mists on the lake where dragonflys slowly
flex their diaphanous gemstone wings. The ones who
keep as captor the rainbows from the last day’s thunderstorm.

A frog {Maybe toad. [Probably frog.]} somewhere in the pottery.
Awaiting the repottery of potted plants, themselves awaiting the
heat of day and breeze’s gift of sway.  Hiding in the repository of pottery;
perhaps in rainwater held in temporary reservoir - a feast for frog, a womb
for gnats...this believing squeak-croaking, near-whistling frog calls out in love -
or something very much like it. From the dark. Not near at all to kindred souls.
At even the odd hours I hear it call. Her call? His call? The call we all...make.
Know.
Offer.
Await.

The barn cat, asleep, misses it all.
And misses none of it.

Soon he sidles up.
In need of scritches and time with.
The tea cools, the leaves unfurl.
The tannins dye.
The world wakes.

The lupine at the altar try their hand at purple.
No goose today.
The sibling blue pines put one in minds...
of poetry. And work awaiting.

Patterns In Life

Go through chores as, like a machine
the sunrise, sundown, the rains, and snow
the countryside pass by a train window
but can't drink the green valley to the lees
along the mountain slope the mist rises
swept clean by a light stream from among clouds
sea waves thrash the shore and back they go
the glacial river water flows down to the plains
poke the ecology to melt ice at the source
fertile lands begin to wear desert signages
channel energy to mine minerals and wring out oil
combust petroleum to run trucks and automobiles
disease and pandemic checkmate growth
damage life, in the gambit to make it hunky-dory.
