Best Context Poems
Without context, often beliefs and concepts are embraced. . .others condemned.

Through Sleep’s Veils
through sleep’s veils
my feet battle blankets
as comets streak the bleak night

I write what I write
No Fear No Reason
I write what I write
to fit the season
I don't know genre
so don't have a fit
Knowing the form
doesn't make it legit
I never studied
to learn structure or form
so all that I write
may be labeled free form
I know this will exclude me
from many contests
But I write what I feel
in whatever context
All I can say is my best
you may never see
online or posted
for public scrutiny
If I were to learn
to structure as I write
the message could change
you can't say I'm not right
It is what it is
it is what you get
Know it comes from the heart
as the seasons see fit
A monsignor from 'la belle France'
Split the Scriptures into chapters,by chance,
A colleague in fair Erin's isle
Introduced verse,within a short while-
Take care, when said.. quotes can mislead,by a mile.
Context and intention
made to add dimension
To give arguments balance and a view
For its where we are coming from
that determine where we go
and determine how we treat people too
No one hears an argument
that's meant to hurt
and few validate intentions that are mean
Life is not meant
to be energy pettily spent
and discussion that contains not a hill of beans
If you engage
and run into your rage
that haze will forever control how you talk
but if you engage
and reach out to grasp
you pull the other in with real thought
For no one person is wholly right
nor the other wholly wrong
but you surely gain more opponents with smoke and steam
And you attract more flies
when you speak without lies
and from the heart with an open mind
For communication isnt
unless its heard, acknowledged and returned
and nothing gained by immature acting out
A discussion after all
Is rational dialog by all
And a monolog is just a vent
If you engage
and run into your rage
that haze will forever control how you talk
but if you engage
and reach out to grasp
you pull the other in with real thought
For no one person is wholly right
nor the other wholly wrong
but you surely gain more opponents with smoke and steam
And you attract more flies
when you speak without lies
and from the heart with an open mind
For communication isnt
unless its heard, acknowledged and returned
and returned nothing gained by immature acting out
A discussion after all
Is rational dialog by all
And a monolog is just a vent

Witty Will from London town
With his art acted the clown
They said he could not paint flesh or blood-
His 'Shrimp Girl' disproves this lie
When he gave portraiture a try.

Out of Context
Into hole themselves many people have dug
Somewhere along the line pulled the plug
Many things to some may be beneficial
And to others are always inconsequential.
So why should you go to a convenience store?
All is easily obtainable and can find more
To me what might be simple and exquisite
To any other idiot turned out to be illicit.
Has Hillary been one to brag or boast
Or was everything a trusty piece of toast
And some say to system she was abusive
After further investigation was found to be inconclusive.
Why do Republicans enjoy picking things apart?
When what they should do is have a heart;
All they do is take everything out of context
Hillary our President will be brand new and next.
James Thomas Horn, Retired Veteran
Received an email from someone that had a picture
of Hillary on is asking me to write a poem about it.
Above is it. Jim Horn
It was an antiseptic space. The doctor said
something I couldn't quite hear because the
clock over her right shoulder had a second
hand that sounded like firecrackers each tick!
I heard stage 4, in your blood, invading your
entire body, maybe 3 months. The noise grew
louder. Each tock became a bomb in a warzone.
Deafening. PTSD. I was freezing and shaking.
My girl just turned 2. Collateral damage.
It wasn't my turn! What kind of god does this?
I thanked my doctor for my death sentence
and went home to live with my fading family.
Ice hits hot water
vanishes,
steam curls
against faucet.
Reminds me of someone—
how quickly they left,
how cold they were
before they went.
A thousand miles from where I live,
In front of my hotel,
I was amazed to see a face
From home, that I know well.
We aren’t super-close, and so
We didn’t have a clue
Our travel plans would overlap
In time and ocean view.
An out of context meeting
Is a joy and a surprise,
Especially when both of you
Give “Glad to see you!” cries.
I guess it wouldn’t be much fun
Encountering that jerk
Who gets on all your nerves
Around your neighborhood or work.
But I was thrilled to see my friend,
So far away from home;
And my delight inspired me
To write this little poem.

Context and Intention - Artimus Susan Manley (C) September 19, 2007
When you are little like you…
Everything is exciting,
Everything is brand new.
When you are little like you…
The world stretches out before you,
Creating a glorious view.
When you are little like you…
Everything seems possible,
There is nothing you cannot do.
When you are little like you…
Enjoy all of your childhood,
Don’t be too eager to age,
Savour your life’s story as it unfolds,
Don’t rush towards the last page.
Somnolescent crystals fade into my consciousness
Effervescent, all elixir drains down into this
So have I felt the pouring down
Of stream on stream of empty soul
So have I heard the hollow sound
Of what was once a whole
Tear on tear drops down to seas
Of surcease, empty memories
All I've seen lies here before me
When is where I cease
To be
(“Before the Door”, 2023, original encaustic)
Being In Context
Open awareness
Conditioned mind
Two halves of a whole
Like a container and its contents
A sky and its clouds
A heart and its longings
An irreconcilable duality?
Or simply
The gateway to unconditional love
