Best Basketball Player Poems
Why the long face, son? Did someone die?
Aw, Dad. I flunked my math exam
Did you do your level best, son?
I did, Dad. I studied so hard for the test
You know that's all I ask of you, son
And everything is always for the best. Right, Dad?...
What's up, son? Are those tears streaming down your cheeks?
Aw, Dad. I didn't make the varsity basketball team
Did you try your level best, son?
You know I did, Dad. I trained so hard last summer
That's all I can ask of you, my son
And everything is always for the best, Dad...
Is everything ok, son? You look like you saw a ghost
I did lousy on the law boards, Dad
Did you do your level best, son?
I don't know, Dad. I thought I did. But--
--But everything is always for the best, son. You know that by now.
You're right, Dad. Everything is always for the best...
Dad, you're not here with me on this Earth anymore
But your words live on inside me, and
They are of great comfort to me now, Dad
And you were right. Everything is always for the best--
I flunked the math exam because I was not meant
to be a statistician or a computer programmer
I didn't make the varsity team because I was not
cut out to be a great basketball player
I did lousy on the law boards because I never
really wanted to be a lawyer, not in my heart...
I'm a part-time poet now, Dad. That's right
My wonderful poetic friends and I are busy, busy
We create tempting, tasty dishes of Poetry Soup
~ And hereby serve up today's soup de jour, Dad
Everything really and truly is always for the best

SHAWTY,
Yir' boy fin' ta' told ya' bout some lessons in what the Man call Ebonics.
Cus' I gots' this!
Like the young fellow named Carmello on the New York Knicks,
and girrrrrl I got mo' slang in my verse than the words of them nerds
down at Hooked On Phon-ics
I TRIED TA' TOLD YA"LL...
I keeps my flows tight,
Fam ,
cus word is bond like James
and I ain't talkin' Rick James, RIIIGHT!
Ya' see, round cheer,
between Normandy and Western,
what we call this is a little "Twennie Twin Twin"
but round the way,
where you stay,
they just may call this a "Sinny Sin Sin!"
Yo, hold up baby girl...
Lemme ax you suh-um...
Who you be with?
cus Shawty, how you look,
is off the hook,
and Boo-Boo you is suh-um I can see me with with!
Yo Yo Yo! Wait! Hold up girrrl! Where you goin'?
'Sup honey child,
You know my favorite basketball player used to be Yao Ming!
Ya-Mean?
Get it Yao Ming?
Yaa-Mean!?!-----(crickets chirp-ing fir' certain)
Lady Queen, come on back to me!
Yo, my jokes may be stupid, but they clean,
B'sides, I coulda' been' said something idiotic like Idi Amin,
Yaa-Mean?
And the homey don't even play no basketball, ya dig?
Yes YESHall! ...
Better put that ON SOMETHIN'!
And you KNOW THIS!----(awww heck naw, Shawty dipped...)

An ingenious device is a basketball net:
Swish, swoosh, swoosh, swish---
Its sweet sound made
From a cager's wish. (A 'cager' is a basketball player)
Close your eyes; let your mind run free,
Picture the ball arching gracefully,
A round, rubber rainbow coursing through the air
Willing its way on a wing and a prayer.
Swish, swoosh, swish, swoosh:
One after another the balls pour on in.
Swoosh, swish, swoosh, swish;
The nets' cords snap,
Cagers high-fives slap.
Swish after swoosh,
Swoosh after swish:
The sweet sound made
From a cager's wish.

I have two favorite sports.
On a stage and the b.ball court!
That's right, I'm a basketball player.
A bonafide rhyme slayer!
I can shoot a three-pointer
and give a defending player whiplash!
I'm a shooting guard
Like Steve Nash.
A spoken word poet
in a demented rage.
I like the spotlight.
When I take the stage.
These are the sports I'm good at.
On the stage or basketball court, I'm trained for combat!

When I take my nephew
to the park to play basketball,
I look around to spot trolls
who litter and destroy.
" Look at those hoodlooms,
how they behave and talk! "
" They are my friends " he
exclaims. " Your friends?
Has your mom met them? "
" Scondrels and slanderers
have the foul smell of rats in a sewer;
they scatter soda cans everywhere
and say words we never dare to say! "
I notice that I have embarassed him:
his bond of friendship seems stronger
than the depictable things he sees;
he'll try to defend them, then he lowers
his head and admits they aren't worthy keeping
if they are always getting in trouble! "
He asks me taking another look at them.
" It's very obvious how pitiful they are
with thin bodies and scruffy appearance...
do they ever go home and eat dinner,
or even take a shower and study hard? "
" No, " he replies with a saddening look.
" Do you consider them friends or worthless boys?"
" They are both, uncle!, I am ashamed of them. "
I wanted you to see what they become
without putting words in your mouth...
their bad upbringing reflects their personality
and their behavior; I must blame their parents
for the freedom they shouldn't have! "
And turning to him with a mellow smile,
" You like to go to college and be a basketball player? "
" Yes, uncle. " he whispered with a glow
that sparked joy in his intelligent eyes.

Hey! This one is my melodramatic mom’s!
One thing I have realised: No one else in the world can ever be more loving than one’s mom.
I see five roundballers at the court.
I see her dropping dimes,
As she plays at interschool B-ball tournament today.
My misty eyes pray for her to win.
Don’t know what is tugging at my heartstrings?
Five years back, I still remember,
My little girl in eighth standard,
Trying hard for her selection.
Little hands didn’t know how to hold the ball.
Apoorva I owe you! You taught her to crawl.
Before dawn at 4:30, to teach her the sport,
You were every day, there at the court.
Wasn’t easy to see this day!
“She doesn’t have that passion!”
“You want her to fulfil your own dreams!”
“Nothing’s beyond studies!”
Such comments were taken more sincerely than my thyroid pills,
As if they were most important part of the drill.
They took the bull by the horn!
Tears still rolling down, emotions over bound!
Team rejoice, frolicking around and she kisses the ground.
She throws a kiss at me – that’s a well-deserved triumph.
She belongs to the court forever now, this love will never lose its charm!
And the court will always welcome her with a warm smile and stretched arms.
Thanks Mom! A good orator, swimmer, tennis player and now a proud basketball player….I owe it all to you. I love you!

Tall as they come, this man is 1 metre 85,
A basketball player inspired by the 2012s,
To compete in disability sport so to thrive,
At the high jump, his practice bookshelves.
Loughborough students encouraged him,
To work on his basketball leaps by trying,
To high jump. He was so taken, no whim,
With the London Paras, he was pertaining,
That he became a T44 athlete for team GB,
To qualify with PB of 2.06 at Bedford in May;
2013 also saw him in the IPC, Lyon to see,
Where he took silver, loosing to Poland, ok.

And he got another PB with 2.15m, a WR,
Which would’ve won gold in London sails,
But he had to accept silver, Poland did bar.

Wants to dribble the balls in his scrotum
He tries to bounce them
Hardwood boards renounce them

Klever and kreative...very loyal, diligent and trained to be a grand and uplifting influence to all ages and acknowledged any kid's strengths and worked on their weaknesses to make them physically potential and successful
Oh, what a legend and brilliant basketball player he was and will be remembered for an eternity with his unconditional support and guidance in sports' entertainment...he tried his best and hardest to be humble, compassionate, jubilant, resilient and zealous towards others and his teammates in the past
Believe and always follow your dreams no matter what obstacles we may face - that's what he portrayed in his life in and out of the court and he inspired many and still inspires many till this day...Kobe Bryant will always be a leader and his marvelous skills and stamina has been well-known for decades - he will continue to give us confidence and determination throughout our lives whenever we are faced with trials of various kinds and whenever we play our favorite sport
Elevating spirit and benevolent brother to everyone around the world; in addition, he gave us opportunities to work as a terrific team and he continues to shine like the basketball courts he used to train on and bounce with pride and vigilance like a basketball, diving into the basket with ardent joy...remember him as an adventurous, ambitious man who has won the hearts of so many people and die-hard fans on Earth - Kobe will always and forever be missed!

Controversy is a state of a dispute or a real disagreement. Controversy also occurs when
the media's involved. It seems that when there's a lot of controversy that has been seen
on the news or heard on the radio, everybody will talk about it. Like when a football
player, a basketball player, or a baseball player is or was using steroids to cheat his
way to the top, all sports fans are talking about it, especially when ESPN Radio and other
sports channels are involved. And when controversy's happening to a lot of politicians and
government workers, that's a different story. there's a lot of corruption going on is this
world, including the United States of America. We all know that controversies and scandals
are the main subjects that all of Americans will have been talking about for the rest of
our lives. This sort of cheating has to have real consequences, including for the
corrupted politicians, the athletes who are cheating their way to the top by using
steroids, corporate America being influenced by greed and corruption, and the news media
are getting involved. Controversy's a bad thing for everybody, even a lot of celebrities.
And if this type of controversy keeps up, there's no telling what bad thing might happen
next.
