Swoosh, Swish

An ingenious device is a basketball net:
  Swish, swoosh, swoosh, swish---
      Its sweet sound made
From a cager's wish. (A 'cager' is a basketball player)

Close your eyes; let your mind run free,
Picture the ball arching gracefully,
A round, rubber rainbow coursing through the air
Willing its way on a wing and a prayer.

Swish, swoosh, swish, swoosh:
One after another the balls pour on in.
Swoosh, swish, swoosh, swish;
  The nets' cords snap,
  Cagers high-fives slap.

  Swish after swoosh,
  Swoosh after swish:
  The sweet sound made
  From a cager's wish.

Thank you, Gregory. I don't know if you're still young enough to swish a few...As for me, "the thrill is (long) gone," thanks to arthritic joints"--leaving me with more time to write about b-ball. "To every thing, there is a season" and a reason! Thanks for checking my site and for your encouragement! Best wishes, Gershon

Hey, Anne-Lise, thanks for viewing/reading this one and thanks for the comment! Are you a cager/hoopster, or a fan of roundball? If so, how about those Loyola Ramblers, the little team in 'my backyard,' Rogers Park section of Chicago. I taught there for a few years, AND actually trained the coach's (Porter Moser's) brother, Waaaaay back in 1981-2. How about that?! Thanks again. :) Gershon

Thanks for the re-entry opportunity and the exposure for this poem! I really like it, and it gets a lot of views/reads---but comments are sparse...Maybe P.S. isn't fertile ground for cagers and other assorted 'jocks.'...Til you saved the day for me. :) gw

Thanks! You're probably still swishing 'em from 30 feet. (Me, I can't even shoot a lay-up anymore. Oh, well...).

Thank you so much. Before you, there were over 110 reads with not one comment. I guess our audience doesn't exactly constitute a "hotbed of basketball," eh? Here's to your next three-pointer! Best wishes, gw
