Best Angola Poems
Oh! Mother Africa!
From the East to the West, from the North to the South of
Africa is strife, killings, starvation and poverty
Brothers killing brothers
And innocent bloods are being shed every day
Arise! Mother Africa and save your child.
Give hope to the hopeless
And strength to the weak
Liberty to the oppressed
Peace to the restless and succor to the needy
From Free town in Sierra Leone
to Darfur region in the Republic of Congo.
From the Niger Delta region in Nigeria to Monrovia in Liberia
From Addis Ababa in Ethiopia to Sudan
From Luanda in Angola to Kinshasa in Zaire
From Cape Town South Africa to Nairobi Kenya
Let there be peace, love, unity and prosperity in the Land
Dear Mother Africa!
Show us the way and save Africa your beloved child in whom you are
Well pleased.
Welcome To The Party
Written by: D. Collins 9/8/14
Welcome to the party black, white, yellow, and brown.
Where you can get “Hippy” and let your hair down.
Treat it just like it’s another “Woodstock”.
Come in, just blend, and turn this party out.
Welcome to the party from New Orleans to L.A.
Those in Angola, and those in Pelican Bay.
All are welcome, we’re going to “set it off”.
Some food, spirit, and knowledge for all ’o ya’ll.
Welcome to the party, where some jazz may kick in.
And, before the song’s over you’ll holla “play that again”.
There’ll be good conversation, and the sweet, smell of myrrh.
People from all over the globe joined as brothers and sisters.
Welcome to the party, we’re just getting started.
Those who want drama should have already departed.
This party’s not for them. They don’t possess what it takes.
The uncanny ability to see far, beyond hate.
Africa the continent…of incredible wealth …?
Through exploitation, corruption…and stealth…attrition felt…?
Called the mother land…are you a fan…?
The significance of tribes…the subject of their lives…
The stark of their marks…to the ranges in their talks…
From the spears that some bear…to the people who cares…
Reflections of hate…significance of faith…
The origin of slavery…where is your bravery…?
Colonization in nations…for western distributions…
With forced migrations…the development of other nations…
Transported in ships…landed on the tips…
Areas like North America…to Jamaica…and the Caribbean…
With barrels and cans…how to explain the master plan…?
A nation in fusion…an education in illusion…?
The mining of gold…many stories untold…
The illegal extraction of diamonds…is there any lies man…?
Large deposits of oil…is this a spoil...?
Several dictators…who are the creators…?
The mind of the people…limited in steeple…?
The statistics on crime…no nursery rhyme...
Scars of many civil wars…like tumors…no rumors…
The bases…to the places…and the faces…
Some children…god's help them…
Spawned in the games…where is the shame…?
With rifles…their freedom stifles…
From Angola…to Nigeria…to Zimbabwe…international reports say…
From time immemorial…is this a constant ritual…?
Take stack…majority blacks…what are the lacks…?
How many states…do we have to wait till late…?
What is my date…is this what culture creates…?
United States of Africa…?
America…the Mecca…
How can you copy…the era of the floppy…?
Is it not gone…how to eliminate the scorn…?
Let bygones be bygones…move to the lushness of lawns…
Look beyond the dirt…search for your true worth…
Try to look within…and live without…
The violence…so intense…does it make sense…?
Africa…to whom will we call…
Mamma…?
Cuba…Mamma Mia…like most of the Caribbean; part of the 1492 slam…
Slavery, sugar plantations… invasions, upheaval, independence…
Then the American kisses; with a slight twist…who initiated the ’disses’…?
Was it Blaine…is he insane…?
Was it Marti…the heart of the party…?
Or Teller…many say he was the real speller…
Or Estrada Palma…could he have been the calmer…?
Was it San Martin…any questions of his parting…?
Or was it Batista…is he the real twister…?
With his interwove of expansion…then stagnation and dissatisfaction…
Coupled with his increased economic regulation plan…
Was this the spike for the revolution…?
Enter Castro; was he the real maestro…his thoughts, his plans; communize the land…?
Centralize, non-democratize…ostracize, reorganize…
The politics…were they laden in tricks…?
The CIA; not here to stay… but what role did they play…?
When they realize the RAF size…what will they emphasize…?
With great plans to defeat…did they end in retreat…?
Now with Eisenhower…speculations of a great shower…
But after only months…fixation shift to ouster hunts…
Severed diplomatic relations…the new sensation…
Impositions of trade embargo…the ‘Fargo’ in my cargo…?
The ‘Bay of Pigs’…will you understand the gigs…?
The ‘Cuban Missile Crisis’…what was this Tri-fit…?
The military games…were these substances in flames…?
For a superpower war…or the everlasting scars…?
Of suppression, political persecution…migration, and interventions…
In Angola, and Ethiopia…from Nicaragua to North Africa…
To the Congo…to some say; ‘Jah Mek Yah’…?
Cooperation with Russia…was this the real crusher…?
The mid-eighties…the beginning of their ending gaiety’s…?
The dissolving of the Soviet Union…continuation of the country’s isolations…
Reduced rations…the new fashion…
Unpainted buildings…now the in-thing…
Old vehicles with limited repairs…any scares…?
Lack of electricity…did it colour the ethnicity…?
A country on the verge…is there a new urge…?
Tourist attraction…one logical concoction…
Amidst the flow…of system many Cubans know…
The US now attests…it is in the country’s interest…
Cuba has withstood the test…put the embargo to rest…?

(Homage to the Kwanza River
" Water mother " of Angola)
Largest and only Angolan
Art thou, O majestic Kwanza!
In the central highlands
We see thee rise in Mumbué
And 960 kilometers of undoubted majesty
To the north and west
Since the municipality of Chitembo, in Bié
Stretch out on the big curve design
Before the hug, so sweet, so strong
You give to the salt of the Atlantic
Largest and only Angolan
Art thou, O majestic kwanza!
With an enviable basin
For two hundred and fifty
Kilometers, you are navigable
From the mouth to the Dondo
Where the dams of Cambambe and Capanda
Render yourself patriotic reverence
By the megawatts of power
Largest and only Angolan
Art thou, O majestic Kwanza!
As well as to the national currency unit
In the two provinces, thy name this also:
At its northern margin, Kwanza Norte
And Kwanza Sul, on the opposite bank, equally
They pay more than deserved tribute
Waking to the call to prayer near a Turkish mosque
Blowing “bonjour” to passersby in chic, classy France
Nibbling cheese on a snow-capped mountaintop in Switzerland
Printing footsteps across the linen snow in Siberia
Singing with the birds on the Mongolian grasslands
Gathering simple smiles along a street in Indonesia
Strutting past all the windows down Fifth Avenue
Dancing with the pouring rain in the Amazon
Inhaling the love swirling in the Darling Harbour breeze
Planting kisses on the sparkling gems of Angola
Tasting the spice-laced air in a crowded market of Morocco
Leading a weary camel through the desert of Arabia
Then near the end of the day I
Wade across the Red Sea to catch
The sunset on the golden Egyptian sand and
Lay back to count the stars
With my head against a date palm tree
Somewhere in the silent darkness of Afghanistan.
I am writing to ask you about yourself
And your family in Nigeria and other black countries.
I have seen the bitter difference here;
The difference between Nigeria and other countries,
Then tears stream down from my eyes as I watch
My people in sorrow and suffering--
I cried as I watched the development here and
Looking back home I remembered our dark streets
And, the roads in tears of potholes and refuse.
Here I am, there is constant power supply,
Good road Network; free from potholes and dirties.
The street lights are working and the drainage
Channels are well strutured like those at Onitsha.
We have an enjoyable atmosphere; free from
Polluted air and polluted water unlike our country.
The government are more interested in Revenue generation rather than revenue sharing and aloitment of public funds.
Everyone is involve in the building of the nation,
They promote fiscal discipline, job creation and economic growth, sport development, restoring confidence in their health sector;
Championing peace, ensuring gender equality and woman empowerment, stabilizing the strength of their sub-region, empowering the youth to be productive home and abroad and,
The educational sectors are not abandoned to strike.
Here I am with tears for our beloved country;
The country whose leaders concentrated more on oil
And abandoning the other sphere of the economy.
Then, we were the highest cocoa producing country but another wiser has taken the glory from us.
Years back, we were the highest oil producing country in Africa but Angola has taken over.
We are no longer producing yam and other Agricultural products.
What happens next if the oil wells dry up tomorrow?
Friend, I have seen the different in my quest for greener pasture.
Tomorrow only can tell where we are going-
Say me well to your family, hope to hear from you
Tales of my country, my craving ears await you.

It all started interestingly
Until the arrival of Mr. Lecturer
Then there comes the boredom of the four walls
Looking back, all heads on the table
It looked like they were praying
Little did I know they were sleeping
Out of the boredom of the four walls
It all started interestingly
And indeed very romantic
And highly fantastic
Not until you suddenly turned a dove
As gentle as a sheep
What happened to you?
I have no idea
Suddenly the bubbling love city
Turned a graveyard
Hmmmm…the boredom of love city
Visitation to the other room
Used to be very interesting
Different day comes with different styles and position
Being a “Barca” fan used to be fun
As “Dog” used to be our favorite pet
When you suddenly turned a “Missionary”
I have no idea
Beating Chelsea became inevitable
As you became Nigerian politics
Static in one position
The fun then then turned boredom
The boredom of the other room
It started interestingly
With the spirit of Matriculation in the air
First year was awesomely interesting
Angola and Mozambique hall were so fun
Until part 2 and above
When nothing seems interesting again
But the anticipation of FYB moment
The boredom of School
Boredom is not good
So if it is getting boring
Don’t give up trying
Make it interesting
At all cost without hurting
Because...
Boredom can be frustrating
The African countries lived well by themselves
Until the white man crossed, continental shelves
I can understand adventurers who decided to roam
But not the conglomerates who raped as they combed
The British in Sudan and the French colonies
Never helped Africa being brought to it's knees
This beautiful continent enjoying political appease
But it has a powder-keg fuse that can light with such ease
Angola, Uganda, and Rwanda hit the news
Civil Wars and Genocide once again man's abuse
The biggest sore it carries in this quite wonderful place
One word, slavery, white man's ultimate disgrace
It's not for me to say about a place I don't belong
It's just such a tragedy that it's seen so many wrongs
This continent called Africa, African through and through
Adeleke Adeite, be proud to be you
PLACES YOU’LL NEVER FIND ME
At any rap concert for fun,
At home watching a Merv Griffin re-run,
Singing bawdy drunken choruses of “There once was a nun”,
Under an expensive suntan machine,
In a sushi bar, eating fish, marine,
At the Diamond Jubilee garden party for the Queen,
At a catwalk with scowling skeletons as fashion artists,
Behind a booth-curtain voting for some racists,
In an East Lansing fundraiser for NRA activists,
On a golf course - because I’m below par,
Visiting Australia - because it’s too far,
Driving coast to coast - no car,
In British Columbia (ever again) - too wet,
In Mexico, Brazil, Angola - too hot,
Jogging in the NYC marathon - not fit, too fat.
These vain attempts at verse could not be droller.
Your stuff is less inviting than ebola
(and not as catchy). Wordier than Emil Zola,
you haven’t got the steam to be a roller.
I’ve seen more cutting-edge in Pepsi-Cola.
You clearly honed your style in Fuengirola.
About as challenging as last year’s “¡Hola!”
(I’m sure you’re highly thought of in Angola.)
But that aside, I need a favour, mate.
The flood of would-be Spensers is in spate.
I’d like you to review – that is, donate
your time and talent (at the going-rate,
which happens to be zero.) Desecrate
the pricks who prattle, and the prigs who prate.
Denounce, detract. Indulge that gelding hate
that wells in all of us. The cut-off date
is looming, so get hacking. Don’t be late!
Over 400 years ago, the arrival of 20 or more enslaved Africans are called ‘The Beginning of USA Slavery', which are much more complex than that.
We were kidnapped from Angola, forced on a Portuguese ship, tied from head to toes, Europeans called "The New World"—stolen from that ship,
English pirates confrontation on Mexico coast 20 or more,
“Odd *******” landed at the Point Comfort 1619, English settlement would become Virginia.
Injured defenseless, don’t know what to do; would you?
Duly noted, colony’s secretary, famous as the widower of Native American Pocahontas.
The horror of the journey began with 350 slaves, onboard “The San Juan Bautista",
One of terror, hunger, death even before the piracy begins,
Half would die Portuguese ship, some of millions would perish,
Middle Passage, 1600s to 1800s, before the docked near Veracruz,
Overboard they would go, feeding the sharks valuable no more.
2019 anniversary of the slaves, arrival in the USA must be observed,
No more shall it be paying tribute to perseverance and resilience,
African-American History Commission, Virginia’s 2019 Commemoration, American Evolution,
States—Nations—history must remember that we are Americans,
Complexity as it may be for some to know we are here to stay.

We all did grime to survive back in the day.
Some go caught up, while some of us got away.
I place no judgement on whatever it takes to eat.
By Any Means Necessary, put toys under the tree.
Back in the day snitches didn't exist.
A bid in Angola was a slap on the wrist.
You just come out the way you went in.
A man amongst the most ruthless of men.
And, if repetition is what puts food on your plate.
Do what you do, just like back in the day.
How they live uptown is how you strive to live.
And, whatever it takes, a man feeds his kids.

Here I am sit
Alone
There's no one else
Theirs no one else
Find it hard to bare
Cause theirs
No one else
Try to keep
Occupied
With stuff
To do
Will you comeback
Home
So it will be me and you
Here I sit all alone
I'm just the lonely one
