Best Abnegation Poems

Inner Heights

Something in this life
Does not accommodate us
Knowing
A purpose beyond mere living
Does not encourage us
To linger long in our inch of life
Above the paltry start of dust
Above the cancerous bleed
Of common pain
And I shall not celebrate this
Nor let go of the string of bliss
Though it slips and slides
And tear into my veins

I know I am better than
The clay
From which our life began
Because of something more
That faith alone can clutch
And hope alone can know
So when others ask
The reason for the ritual task
Of life from day to day
I in a deeper wisdom bask
A confidence
Of one who willing prays
A sense primeval
Of a corrupt upheaval
Veiling my belonging
In the wealth of who I am

For I can feel the fingers still
On the outline of my dust
The knee beside the little hill
Of space, his face bowed upon my crust
The mouth my throbbing lips embrace
The kiss of life upon my breath
The abnegation of void
The vacancy of death
And then to see
To know the first behold
The glory of who I am
The mirror murmuring with gold
The sheep above the lamb
And I will not relinquish
What grace has furnished
For me to see
Beyond the mess and mesh of flesh
Beyond the iniquity of a wretch.

Kindness and Afterlife

Spreading the good news
Spreading the kindness
Kindness keeps spreading
Kindness heals rascals
Rascals were lying
Rascals and the pope
Pope and Cardinals
Pope re-entered Rome
Rome the papal territory
Rome the city of roman religion
Religion has no office hours
Religion as a set of an ‘unseen’ being
Being a light to others
Being Christian is more than being good
Good name as a personal integrity
Good progress that grows hopeful
Hopeful to have time for others
Hopeful for the kind of love
Love of God and love of neighbor
Love is patient
Patient means being peaceful
Patient means being merciful
Merciful and being considerate
Merciful God
God hides inside you
God as the Holy Spirit
Holy Spirit is God’s power in action
Holy Spirit has nine fruits
Fruits of gentleness
Fruits of faithfulness
Faithfulness being “divine persuasion”
Faithfulness means commitment
Commitment requires faithfulness
Commitment requires self-sacrifice
Self-sacrifice is an altruistic abstinence
Self-sacrifice is akin to self-denial
Self-denial is also self-abnegation
Self-denial leads to self-improvement
Self-improvement must remove old habits
Self-improvement in Christianity
Christianity as a religion based on beliefs
Christianity based on the teachings of Jesus
Jesus chose to suffer on the cross
Jesus ascended to heaven
Heaven as the throne of God and the holy angels
Heaven as the abode for the righteous dead in the afterlife
Afterlife as a contrast to the belief in “oblivion after death”
Afterlife as a continuation of existence in a spiritual realm
Realm…
Death…

Premium Member Happy Mothers Day

Dedicated to my mother, poetess of Poetry Soup that are mother and to all the mothers around the world:

An angel in Earth who watches for her son or daughter in their childhood, leading with her advices to the right path, take care or his or her when is sick, helps in the scholar assignments, in the teenager years, sees that her son or daughter is not a child any more, not an adult yet, worrying about that the incipient feelings of independency turns to make wrong decisions. In the early adulthood, a new stage with the college years, a young adult emerges. Later on in life, son or daughter marries to start his or her own family or moves to his or her own house. Then, in many cases, arrive the granddaughters or grandsons to compound a new generation.

In the day that is recognized your neverending labor as mother, applaude the abnegation that mothers brings to her daughters or sons, since their birth until the last day of her in this planet. God bless you all.

This City Speaks

Faces void all passing by
open eyed yet emptied
like flashes of a vacancy sign
blank stares like orphans pitied

Caught in time
no plans to sketch
just colored pencils
with broken tips

Only the artist's see
painting joy on canvas
as if an apology
for selling a feeling - to what the living should be free

This city speaks of sunsets passed
and lakes that serve as portraits hung
rush for a weekdays check to cash
while natures gift remains outrun

For me I'd rather fish the sea
a humbled walk along the beach
fall upon a stack of leaves
but freeways and buildings my peace has breached

In love with a life of simple pleasures
unhurried by the next place to go
where hospitality is still the measure
not a life that's put on like a show

Where did all the soft eyes go
the patriots passion the pride
when did this world spin out of control
and kindness become something to hide?

To each his own the saying goes
but what of love thy neighbor?
When abnegation is no longer chose
it's no wonder isolation be favored

Struggle To Write

prosaic prologues bewitch
   feeble minded scribe doth undertakes
tend toward lugubriousness ring tone
   for goodness sake

echoing across,
a figurative lake woebegone, where quake
shutters latched storm windows,
clapped closed winter season didst make
physical environment lachrymose

analogous to imp pond durable dark lake
where sits inside secluded hut,
   this fledgling author named Jake
a former cub (scout) at a loss
   to string together an aria
tomb other nature and NOT FAKE,

sepulchral paeon to divine Gaea, Mother Earth
especially incorporating
   mutisyllabic (sesquipedalian) words,
   which exertion
   on par with giving birth

(or so I guess),
a particularly heavily pregnant laden dearth
of help mates, doubling demonstrably
   deadly duty devoid of mirth
totally tubular taxing toll,

   an essentially unbearable
   effort with bulging girth
whereat digestion consumes
   latent mental ambition,
especially toasty warm near the hearth

which hitherto unknown to any reader
   twas Xmas fabrication and fiction
no crime committed, nor animals harmed
   in the making of diction

aery necessary entrapping unsuspecting intellect
   to comprehend somber benediction
unless perchance one lone wolf
   bait Oven English Major
   with Westernization

topped off with a European
 debunaire suave acculturation
even luckier if hypothetical personage
   dips daintily into forays epicurean,

though careful,
   and alert since church fathers
  would frown on parsonage
whose natural born ardor,
   a spiritual abduction
stealing austerity, complacency, and objection
toward forced irrational schemas
   averse to abnegation
unfair imposition

   to foist upon pruriant predilection
also impossible
   to sequester arbitrary animal urges,
   punishing call of the wild,
   sowing seeds a beastial accusation
considered averse,
   then imposition contrition!

Illuminating Soul (COLLABORATION )

by~ George Stal

I had felt this age had won;
as my sword was rotted as spring appeared.
The earth burst out as a blossom.
And now saileth in the boat of sunrise,
come forth,
O, quiet Heart-
For I have avenged thee
on the day when thy dead shall live anew.
Shutting thy eyes on the world,
sublime in thy abnegation.
See it break on thy face;
Soul illumes*

by~ Poet Destroyer

Ageless with the world that comes and goes.
Mist Upon this blossom Morn,
Thy eyes bleed for the beauty arising -
Your gentle hues atop the green lawn
Casting a rock~ upon the horizon land.
The world grant's the sun a final flirt of passion.
I will taste the silent air'
Longing on a new deathbed!
With earth breaking the intimate and final push.
Soon thy will see the silver line
Send it down thy watery grave,
Thy soul will illuminate and sublime with the universe.

I Wish I Knew How To Be Wise

I wish I knew how to be wise
And have that knowing look in my eyes
Remaining silent while you nattered
As though I knew what really mattered

I’d never chat about the weather
Or discuss TV when we’re together
Always wearing a benign smile
Eternal bliss would be my style

I’d radiate endless compassion
Forgiving all, as is the fashion
A fathomless well of generosity
In love, unbounded precocity

I really think I’d have a flair
For worry beads and matted hair
I’d hover inches above the ground
Odour of sanctity all around

My aura would light the darkest place
While mortals worshipped my radiant face
Transfixed by supernatural beams
Flowing like Himalayan streams

Now and then I’d emit a platitude
While those around would melt in gratitude
Dumbstruck by my ethereal emanation
The fruit of yogic bowel elimination

But if you bowed to kiss my feet
(I think that would be really neat)
You’d better not smudge my toeless sandals
Or comment on my holy love-handles

If your chakras had some obstruction
I’d offer my course in karmic reduction
Having a diploma in kundalini power
All cards accepted, pay by the hour

I’d burn incense and chant a mantra
All legitimate and based on Tantra
Tutelary deities could well preside
I’d keep a few on the side

While priests and sheikhs and rabbis slept
I’d meditate like a true Adept
Transmitting subtle healing vibes
Like the ancient Tibetan scribes

If I were wise I’d have no care
My whole life would be a prayer
No tiresome rules to bother me
I’d commune direct with divinity

I’d have no truck with full prostration
Or other forms of mortification
Knowing Maya in her other guise
New ways of binding with golden ties

Self-abnegation is for lesser beings
Fasting, bowing, cleaning latrines
Can’t you see it’s below my station?
On the path to Realization

Yes, I wish I knew how to be wise
But I might just have to compromise
I'm not in that vaunted league you see
I'll have to settle for philosophy

Premium Member Organization Man

Organization man. In the best sense
creating the environment in which experiments
can be savored and remembered.

Then there is the world of interlocked
organizations. A world of missions and contracts
finely tuned and binding.

Is the formation of associations
as instinctual as nesting and gestation?
A leader may be one who asks a question.

Or may be one imposing order.
Imposed through consensus and broad shoulders.
Waits, watches, acts his part.

I was impressed by the list of distinguished senators
from Vermont. He placed himself among men,
orators, imperfect, in history.

We march forward, imperfect in our justice
and compassion. Overriding logic with conscience
sometimes, not often, when it counts.

And mercy. A seemingly irrational, total
abnegation of the markets, rules of war, law.
Good to be so flawed.

New Year’s Resolutions

All my New Year’s resolutions
are excellent solutions.
I try hard not to break them.
So, I, never ever make them.

It must be great to have the strength,
willpower at any length
a promise to yourself
satisfying no one else.

The greatest sadness in the world,
is when New Year’s Day unfurls,
and you must part with what you like,
hiding good things from your sight.

Abnegation cannot be.
No changing things for me.
All is well just like it is.
I guess I’m just a hedonist.

Carniverous Carnival

Carnival without merit, affinity, and association
Brash, bellowing band bleeting notes in oscillation
Circus creatures cavorting about with every unseemly provision
Cascading, carnival chorus clanging through every subdivision
Haughty, kilted henchmen trotting in front of the procession
Decadently-dressed damsels fawning at mock adulation
Coarsely-clad clowns tromping along in derision
Freaky, festooned floats fluttering through every alley and intersection
Ghastly garlands strewn about with every drunken petition
Teaming, throbbing townspeople on marauding mission
Corrupt Councilors culled and paraded about in degradation
Frugal, free-loading foragers scraping up every token donation
Vacuous, votive vendors profitting from their abnegation
Ebullient, enterprising entrepreneurs scalping without aversion

Abnegation

Nothing is shaking, but these mountains are moving.
Broken and shapeless, lost found and renown.
Can you see it's multiple faces,
The moment you close your eyes at night?
Blind in your hands you take action,
Sharing in the abnegation at flight.

Cluttered by the fractures of fake aid,
You've become the mover and taker.
The epitome of undistinguished theft before you trade.

Figures sweep across my path of distinction,
Swiftly blocking me and I can't escape.
I lift up my arms to hold all possible patience.
Humbled by the troubles of this cascade conscience.

Shade, it becomes the dramatical black parade.
Sketching edges into the objects of human copper tin.
Bash n' bang the color so there remains no more stain,
Stacking high the welts left on your brains limbic violin.
