Announcers Poems

The Jinx

The Masked Mulluss
Or "The Jinx" made his
Unannounced in ring debut
"Trouble " Flake Flemming
And "Longshore" Gobble sought
Observance, from ringside.
The announcers nearly cursed
The masked man, giving him no
Chance against former all wrestling
Pro champion, Fox Dicey.
Seven minutes in All Dicey.
Nine minutes in The masked man
Rallies to offence, making waste of
The former champion. A whip into
The ropes, flying drop kick by the
Masked Man, he lifts his opponent
And a small package finds him on
The defending end. Kickout one two.
"A what say ya" clothes line out of
The far corner send the former champ
Into a 360 flip. Followed by A levdrop,
One, two, three, we have a winner!

Premium MemberThe Fish Know I'M Coming

The fish know I’m coming

Turtles line the logs
Swans parade in pre-game frenzy
Geese honk from the cheep seats
Muskrat groundskeepers tend the “field”
Bullfrog-voiced announcers “harrumph” the goings on
Dragonfly vendors work the crowd

The fish know I’m coming

The game is on…….

Toys Come Alive

He goes off to sleep
Not even a peep
When the child’s away
The toys will play:
Trains ride
Cars drive
Books have a read
Dogs ask for a lead
Balls start bouncing
Announcers start announcing
When the child wakes up
Like a bounding pup
The toys fall asleep there and then
Ready to be played with again

It was a hot and dusty day
the crowd fidgets as it waits
bull dripping sweat in shute bay.

howdy folks the announcers say
Raging Tornado in shute awaits
it was a hot and dusty day.

Saddle slipping this and that way
only held in place by weights
bull dripping sweat in shute bay.

R.T. chews on his cud of hay
pawing the ground in anger waits
it was a hot and dusty day.

Flies out of shute now comes what may
saddle slips man evacuates
bull dripping sweat in shute bay.

Riders distract bull hold at bay
while man slides out and valuates
It was a hot and dusty day
bull dripping sweat in shute bay.

Hyperbole is a sports cast
Announcers have egos so vast
My ears must have rest
From this lambasting pest
Collection of morons amassed

MIRACLE!

Now hear sports prime time
“Amazing! Spectacular!”
Just two of the words
“Hey! You gotta be kiddin’”
Does he know how to play ball!”

“One of the greatest”
Some say he IS the greatest!”
Just incredible!”
“Bob that’s some kinda atha-lete!”
“Three hundred pounds of muscle”

“It’s a miracle!”
“You mean HE’S a miracle”
“He’s at the fifty –
Forty thirty twenty-five
Reverses field at the five
STUPENDOUS RUN A TOUCHDOWN!”

WHAT AN ATHA-LETE!”
The magic words spilling forth
At top of his lungs
Had you pressed the mute button
Just another game

But the fans love noise
The roar will deaden the mind
Loudmouth has said squat
Has stated the obvious
Big mouth says “Watch but don’t think”

I am an avid football fan - especially college football - the poem is not about disliking football, but about some - not all - of the brainless announcers.

In Everton Forest

The place was a symphony of sweet sound
the melodies of nature enough to astound
even the most deaden'd of senses.
There was such an abundance of delicious charm
that the spirit felt awash in a glorious and soothing balm./

Above - in the lush green canopy the birds trilled, to burst,
clamouring to be the very first
announcers of the pearly dawn./
The murmur of the nearby stream with its throngs of reeds, lush and tall
swayed and rustled in the early breeze
while far-off could be heard the muted roar of a great waterfall.

Far above a solitary falcon called and circled
then spotting some far-off prey, hurled
itself down like an arrow.
The fresh and invigorating breeze
whispered sonorously throght the trees,
a sighing accompaniment to the staccato "rat-a-tat-tat"
of a pair of brilliant plumaged woodpeckers.

Milking It - (A Villanelle)

They pull back a curtain in time
with one-word pictures sublime
to evoke a tear or much fear.

Announcers speak of Katrina,
9-11, Columbine or Diana
through a curtain in time.

Talking heads regurgitate Watergate,
the Holocaust or Vietnam to titillate
a tear or much fear.

Lives lived vicariously
on the trauma or drama they see
through a curtain in time.

Memories milked on the 11 o'clock news
as some folks settle in for a snooze
without a tear or much fear.

Until the next catastrophe
become the latest event to be
shelved on tape behind a curtain in time
to await a tear or much fear.

The Bulls

The hatred in those blackened eyes
The thunder roarin when hooves collide
The air beneath the jumps and kicks
The spins and circles and brutal dips

The humps and horns and leather hot
The smell of hide and a winnin shot
The announcers voice so deep and loud
It’s time for the bulls and the crowd goes wild

They don’t know the thrill and pain
That they bring to this rodeo game
The fan support is off the charts
And the bulls and blood is where it starts
