once again
memories
of sweet shrub
quietly imposes
its luscious scent
red to rust
blossoms
open upon
Carolina allspice
memories flood
the old homeplace
deep in the woods
with you sharing secrets

add some oats to the pot
add some water add a lot
boil it boil it until it thins
than add more water
and boil it again
stir it and pour it into a bowl
add a pinch of allspice
eat it hot or cold
soupy and droopy to the touch
breakfast lunch and supper
a big bowl of mush

BEAUTIFUL FALL
Brisk the breeze that shivers the pines,
Excites the mind, in throes of daydreams,
About escaping from the tests — that litter of
Untimely pop quizzes of consequence.
Thrust the football — enervate the bleachers!
Irradiate the touchdown of the student body cheeks.
Freeze the lament of leaves in joyous hue!
Unfasten the laces of maple and oak hairdos.
Loosen the season’s best gourds and wild relief.
Fall into the raked leaves of Autumnal bliss, the
Allspice of uniforms and costumes, the vainglorious
Lift — running down the padded field and making passes.
Learned in school - the beautiful charm of Fall.

From fruit scones, to meat pie,
Apple crumble and coffee cake,
Sunday tea was amazing,
Because, my Granny sure could bake.
Secret ingredients, she wouldn't divulge,
Passed down from years gone by,
When I look back on those days,
It brings a tear to my eye.
From butterfly buns, to Victoria sponge,
A moist fruit loaf, filled with flavour,
Jam tarts and gingerbread men,
For the kids to savour.
Sausage rolls and a birthday cake,
Made for a special party tea,
Cheese and onion pie a fresh baked loaf,
All made especially for family.
Granny's recipes are the best recipes,
Made of all things nice,
A Granny's love as the main ingredient,
To add that extra bit of allspice.

Overjoyed at the prospects
Pumpkins orange and ripe
Totally ready dot the field
Intermingled with weeds
Mature ready to be eaten
Ickle one, not a few
Summer nurtured the crop
Turned the field into apricot
Iconism for his optimism
Captured in that glorious lantern
Open door to new adventure
Reaping the harvest of gratitude
Another aroma allspice in pumpkin cake
Nacarat lusciousness in nutmeg spiced pie
Gift of God and of the garden
Enjoy optimistic orange
Ickle(British) slang for little
Iconism-representation or semblance
Nacarat-orange-red

They say girls are made of everything nice.
We do not know the combinations of sugar and spice.
However, you are a woman that is special to me.
Without a doubt, you have a unique recipe.
There must be sugar, because you are quite sweet.
I have to take insulin shots each time we meet.
What are the amounts of nutmeg, allspice, and cinnamon?
When I knock on the door, you always let me in.
Whatever there is, it is a great combination.
When I see you, it gives me a sweet sensation.
You are someone cuddly that I love to squeeze.
With you, I do not worry about calories.
If only I could have that secret formula.
I would be able to clone you in a plethora.
After all of this time, the patent must have expired.
You are someone I have always desired.

Apples hang upon the trees in orchard
Just reach up and pick of nature's bounty
Months of waiting now great flavor's award
Fried apples for lunch drenched in butter aplenty
Cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg plenty
Aromas float on the air alluring
Scents that draw and are so reassuring
