When I was in grammar school
There simply wasn’t any tolerance for students talking back
The religious sisters at our Catholic school were very strict (in part because they had charged over dozens of students per class)
Order and protocol were paramount
I can’t imagine my fourth grade self ever openly questioning a religious sister
So
I am amazed at the persistence of the mother in today’s gospel
As she talks back not to the Mother Superior but to Father Christ
No less!
Father Christ eventually acquiesces
Praising the determined Mother for her great faith
Where did she get such faith
courage
Perhaps mother’s bravery
Determination are due to her unconditional love for her daughter
If a mother’s love is so incredibly powerful
How much more powerful must Eternal God’s love for each of us be
Father Christ
Please help me strengthen my faith
To love you more each day

"Halcyon moments are privileges for the destitute.", by the poet
The nectarous voices are whispering bye,
as seasons substitute one for the other,
remodeling landscapes harmoniously,
~~subtle surrenders,
A balmy brush of sand granules shifts a beach,
while warm bodies lie are gloriously blessed,
ere a quarterly sunset soothingly sound,
~~humid loses fair,
Pastoral renders reconciliation,
as a glamorous nature fluctuates gleam,
anon vividness slowly acquiesces,
~~restful greenroom folds,
Milk-warm coolly sedates creaminess cascades,
cushioning mellow fields of snowy delights,
entreating eyes amidst shimmering pleasures
~~picturesque shuffles.

The teal peels as it submits to gloaming,
and a round lucidity exposed abroad.
As the alien brilliance shines far away,
the maneuvered view is being cast.
'Tis dormancy that exacts dark period of tenure,
countdown from the zero hour.
Distant silhouettes grow versus fawning growth,
dipped in Luna's balm.
The etching of profiled naturalness acquiesces,
constant figurines masquerading the expanse.
Subtle contours architecturally restructured,
split seconds surrender serene scenes.
The solid realm maintained lifeless postures,
as the teeming formations made idle trims.
Mimicry traces the bestilled in passing,
perfect copies render mockeries silence.
Heights claim their surroundings,
as the tight-lipped verdant statuesque frames.
Depths summon intimate intrigue,
whilst burgeoning burrowed bedrock bound.
Exchanging brightness extremely bold,
lilt ventures its routine as the subject of Sol.
More or less defining shadows...
there's no difference that a day would make.

Shadows cannot exist outside the light;
so dark projects the illusion of norm.
Ebony acquiesces to the night;
shadows cannot exist outside the light.
And yet, they're always there, just out of sight.
Only the light can give shadows their form;
shadows cannot exist outside the light,
so dark projects the illusion of norm.

Good night my playful heart, waltz merrily in fairy dreams
Reveling in memories of beloved blissful blossoming springs
Engaging her wishes in music of gentle whispering winds
Ascending to ecstasy, eliciting elatedly what romance is
Traversing the night-sky, stargazing in her doting company.
Exhilarating in her imagination of euphoric utopian abode
Sketch for me what you mean by paradisiacal place on earth
Captivating sensuous desires longing to inhabit Elysium,
Affirm to my anxious world: fantasy never dwells in sorrow
Playing for her on keys of piano, pleadings of my eternal hope
Ecstatic to awaken me, when she acquiesces to call of love.

The sky becomes synonymous with grey,
signifying a storm is on its way.
And a sullied sun swiftly slips away;
allowing shadows to overcome day,
while clouds release their droplets straightaway.
Thunder echoes across purple-bruised skies,
as lightning causes drops to vaporize.
And ebony descends to claim its prize
while the whirling winds wail and Nature cries.
Treetops get tossed and bullied by each gust
for brisk breezes suddenly feel robust;
it happens swiftly, no time to adjust.
Broken by a murmured mantra of sound,
Silence acquiesces as raindrops pound.
And pellets of ice get viciously hurled!
Everything is in scattered disarray,
where twisters start to materialize.
Hail and rain meld into an icy crust;
that turns the streets into a battleground,
and neighborhoods into a netherworld.

sin so seemingly harmless
offending no one
sloth hides behind selfish smiles
feigning pain or pitiful
preening and purring
inside it acquiesces
accepting of assistance
sighing it lays back
secure in the knowledge
others will carry its load
it is the knowing
which renders it so deadly

its threadbare blanket taints the sunset
masking the eyes of evenings predators
slowing the pace of the days heartbeat
holding in its grasp a troubled darkness
soft-petaled flowers warily close their eyes
seeking the solace of denial
tree top chatter ceases – acquiesces
to the dwindling warmth of presence
dusk, a lie told to eager believers
yellow eyed hermits blinking in the tall grass
creeping into the no man’s land of darkness
tongues and whiskers test nocturnal skills
howls and squeals of darkness in the darkness
as the gloaming drops its quilt upon the night

As a vermillion Sun feigns its death,
daylight acquiesces to Night's might.
And with a propensity for red,
Sol colors clouds, cerise, and crimson.
Day dwindles as flashing fireflies set
twinkling lights flickering on the scene.
And an austere, featureless landscape
morphs into a field of pixie dust.
Nature imbues the Night with subtle
scents of honeysuckle and wild rose.
And a mix of exotic odors
of lesser-known, more infamous plants.
Contrary to popular belief,
stinging nettles bear scented flowers.
And as their fragrant blossoms open,
they release a pleasant aroma.
A gold filigree moon guilds the waves,
moonbeams dancing on rippled waters.
And dark silhouettes, like smudged shadows,
merge within Night's ebony embrace.

Slipping slipping sweet summer is slipping away,
Ebbing into the ocean of my memories.
Palpable is my changing mood when all too soon,
The Equinox arrives to l e n g t h e n shadows.
Enticed by cooler days and nights,
My birth month acquiesces, then brilliantly begins
Bursting forth in bright beguiling hues!
Elegies evoked in me by summer’s leaving still linger in my poetry.
Resolved to all of it - at last - I turn to the revelry of fall festivities.

A scarlet sun bleeds onto a pink sky,
behind branches of a majestic oak.
And shadows ink its leaves in silhouette,
as lonely crickets chirp and bullfrogs croak.
I hear the treetops swaying in the breeze;
and a brook, babbling with a southern drawl.
But they're lost to the quiet of the night;
as time slows to a perceptible crawl.
When adventurous moths take to the air,
acrobatic bats hunt them down mid-flight.
And as darkness descends like a curtain,
twilight acquiesces to the night's might.
A quicksilver moon pools amidst the clouds;
dripping drops of sunlight onto the lake.
And all the heavens begin to glitter;
as billions of sleeping stars seem to wake.
A lone owl's haunting hoot empowers dusk
to extinguish the last lingering light.
And diurnal animals go to sleep;
while Nature silently whispers goodnight.

Surrendering innocence;
lust acquiesces to sin.
And fuels fledgling feelings;
convinced love will always win.
You revel in the pleasures
inflated egos conceive.
Yet, wooed by convincing lies,
you find emotions deceive.
And it hurts to play the dunce;
watching your dreams fall apart.
But it is not the first time
sadness has broken your heart.
Somewhere between frowns and smiles;
there's a place where doubts take shape.
And they can drive you to tears;
seeking a means of escape.
Praying for help from above;
you admit you've made mistakes.
And yet, you still long for love;
then suddenly, hope awakes.

Blue morphs into a misty grey
within twilight's surreal light.
And dusk dissolves daylight away,
shading silhouettes inked by night.
Scarlet rivers flowing blood-red,
spill over the horizon's edge.
And as a crimson sky gets bled,
vermilion tints the mountain ledge.
Day acquiesces to the night
as darkness descends on the earth.
And stealthily slips out of sight,
preparing for the sun's rebirth.
A liquid moon pools high above
a fledgling firefly's flashing flight.
And beaming down on hearts in love
ignites passion's flame with its light.

Apprehension
acquiesces
to utter terror.
Defense mechanisms
engage.
Denial drips
from my pores.
Uncharted territory
shakes my
synapses.
Familiar armor
shunned,
I stand at the ready
with a new-found
arsenal.
Rounds of confidence
and shells of
self-worth
are the artillery needed
to face the looming battle
and retain proper
station while
parenting a teenager.
