Contest Description

The Englyn (plural englynion) is a traditional Welsh and Cornish short poem form. There are eight types of englynion.
This contest is for the Englyn unodl union, or "straight one-rhymed englyn,"  which differs from the Englyn milwr, or the “soldiers englyn,” found in Poetry Soup's definition. What I’m looking for is described in the above graphic.

What to Submit?  (Please carefully follow the 3 items listed.)

  1. One original poem on any theme.  NEW poems only.
  2. Selected poetry form must be Englyn, and your poem must follow the definition of the Englyn unodl union in the graphic above. Remember, Poetry Soup’s definition is for the Englyn milwr, a three-line poem that is different from the Englyn unodl union. Confused? Just follow the description in the above graphic and you'll do fine.
  3. Poetry Soup contest guidelines apply, so only the poem should go in the poetry text box.

Example 1: An Englyn unodl union poem by novelist Robertson Davies that I found in Poetry Soup’s Englyn examples:

The Old Journalist

He types his laboured column--weary drudge!
Senile, fudge and solemn;
Spare, editor, to condemn
These dry leaves of his autumn.

Example 2: Link to my Englyn unodl union poem: Moms and Daughters-in-law”
