Reading and Creative Writing are my passions from a very young age. After spending many years of teaching as my profession, finally I am devoting myself to my passions - Poetry, Singing, and Art. I also write short stories, long stories, memoirs, cooking diary...and work on translations of poems from my home-language, Bengali, a regional language in India.

My early years were spent in India, and some later years in the Middle East - finally settled in Toronto, Canada. Writing comes first, but I also learn, practise and enjoy music and art. I am an avid reader from my early childhood - read both classic and modern writers - from Iliad, Odyssey and Shakespeare to P.G. Wodehouse, to Elena Ferrante and Kazuo Ishiguro. The book which is always on my desk is Gitanjali, the collection of spiritual songs by Rabindranath Tagore, the Nobel-laureate Poet of India.

Poetry is an expression of thoughts, feelings and reflections. Some of my unique life-experiences get expressed in my poems and short stories. I attempt to express my reflections and thoughts with creativity and depth - poetic flow and elegance are my goals. At present I am working on a memoir which covers my family's history and my life in three different countries with rich and varied cultures.

I write equally in two languages -  in English, and in Bengali, which is a regional language in the eastern part of India. I have translated a few famous Bengali poems, mainly by Rabindranath Tagore and Jibanananda Das, in English. My book of translation is available on amazon, being published in August, 2023. In the beginning of 2023, I also wrote a short novel in Bengali, called "Pahar Amay Dake" - it would be "Mountains are calling me" in English. This book has been published in Kolkata, India, by Karukatha Publishers, on my birthday in 2023.

I create videos with my own poems and poems by famous writers, and also create audio-books from English and Bengali literature... created my own channel on You Tube, and uploaded a few songs, rendered by myself.

I work on a few forms of rare art - eggshell decorations, copper-tooling and batik are some of them.

How To Attach Pictures To Your Poems (some helpful instructions)

Blog Posted by Malabika Ray Choudhury: 3/27/2021 3:49:00 PM
Hello Soupers,

Some of my friends requested me to post a blog on - how to attach pictures or photos to your poems. Apparently they are having some trouble, and they are really keen on making their pages look pretty.
Actually I asked the same questions to one of our friends, John Watt, a few months ago, and he was extremely kind to send me these step-by-step instructions. What a delight - I was successful by following his detailed instructions!
So here are the same instructions I am posting for my friends, whoever is facing a bit of trouble!

How to Attach a picture to a poem

Note: Poetry Soup requests that we use copyright-free images either we
created ourselves or downloaded from pixabay.com or unsplash.com (pexels.com
is also copyright-free). They reserve the right to remove the image.

1. Download or copy an image to a folder on your computer. Take note of how to
navigate to that folder. Poetry Soup remembers where you last uploaded from
so it's best if you always use the same folder.

2. At Poetry Soup, click on "Member Home" (it's the topmost link on the left
side of the page)

3. Scroll down to "My Photos" and click on it

4. Click on "Choose File"

5. Navigate to the folder where you stored the image, click on the image,
and click on "Open"

6. Under "Brief Description of Photo", type a simple descriptor, like "sunset"

7. In the next box, select "Yes" (provided you have permission to post it)

8. Click on "Upload Photo"

9. You should see a small version of your image below. Under "URL:" copy the
entire URL (select it using the SHIFT key and arrow keys... when it turns
dark blue, it is selected) Ctrl-C will copy the selected text.

10. When you are submitting a new poem, you will find yourself in the "Poem
Submission Form" (if the poem already exists at Poetry Soup, you can get
to this page by clicking on the "Edit" link to the left of the poem title
on your My Poems page)

11. Scroll down to the bold line "About Poem, Inspirational Photo, etc.:"

12. Under it is a large, white box with some icons at the top. Click on the on
in the second row that looks like jagged mountains with the sun behind them

13. Using Ctrl-V, paste the URL you copied in step 9. Click OK, and you
should see your image appear in the large white box. Complete that page
and your poem should have your image appear at the top.

Thank you all. Special thanks to John Watt - he is the one who emailed me all these detailed instructions. I am also attaching audios (after converting them to mp3), and my own created You Tube videos. If you are interested, feel free to email me.
Take care,
Malabika (Mala)

This is a very useful information dear Mala as most of us here are having trouble attaching photos on top of a poem. Either the photo hides the poem or it becomes too large or too small. Anyway there is adjustment there on the dimension of the photo. Good job dear poet!
