Gross/Horror Food Stories

Blog Posted by Kabuteng P.Ink K.: 9/3/2011 10:12:00 AM
Warning: I am going to be a bit gross here--I am just curious over what has been one of the grossest things you have ever seen in your food? Not gross food, I mean it's NOT supposed to be there...like a hair strand, a fly, a cockroach maybe?

I am asking because just recently, we had a pretty embarrassing experience.... my family and I had a small gathering, and there was this new Chinese place in our area... So my dad tried out their fresh Spring rolls there-- it was pretty good (you know those rolled up thingies with chopped up veggies with those crunchy fried mung bean noodles (I think) and seaweed in it? We call them lumpia over here. Yummmmm...Anyhoot, so we bring these fresh spring rolls over.... and everybody enjoys it :D

A few days later, my mom gets a call that actually one of those who ate it had a horrific experience but decided not to say it right away-- as he was eating (enjoying) the spring roll, he notices something there-- it was a TOOTH! O_o---oh ewwwww!! As in according to them, it even had fillings in it-- oh my gosh!! How the Heck did that get there?? *shudder*, *shudder*-- maybe the one who made those spring rolls sneezed or something?? Or laughed too hard???

So be very careful when ordering out, or eating out!

But then again, you should just be careful. Period.

I am sharing this next story with you, putting myself at risk that you will see me in an entirely new light--in a gross light that is, lol--

Ok, take note that this happened waaay back when I was a kid, ok? I think I was 11 around that time?? Haha.

So me and my friends are enjoying a packet of pork rinds... not sure how you eat pork rinds over there-- we call it chicharon over here...anyhow over here, we normally dip it in vinegar-- yummy, adds a bit of tang to all that crunchy saltiness...

But since we were walking around the field while sharing that packet, we had asked the lady to pour some vinegar into the packet.

Nice. Yum, yum, yum....

I finally decided I would take my last piece, and I said to myself..."Hmm, lemme take a small piece this time....hmm how about this one? Nicely dipped in vinegar, too."

So I take that piece, pop it in my mouth. Hmmm. This sure is waay soggier than the other ones?? A bit chewier too? Ok. Whatever. Chew. Chew. Gulp.

All done for me.

Next thing I know, I see one of my friends, digging through the almost empty packet...mumbling something...

Gosh, and then I knew. I could feel my my face getting hot....and then she confirmed it, "Where did it go??"

Acting nonchalant, I ask, "Which one??"

"That piece of pork rind that I spit out!!"

why the Heck did she put it back inside the bag??? Yup, my guilty face revealed it all and we just burst out laughing, with me wanting to throw up. I now feel like a baby bird, eating somewhat regurgitated food...

So. next time, check, check, check!! As for those other things that might be present in your food, oh well, oh yikes :D

Hope to hear other horrific food stories from you :D!

Nikko, my mind is blank right now. I have bitten on cherries and other fruit that still had small pits in them which were being sold as ones in bottles, already pitted, so they could have broken my tooth. I have found hair in my food, one time two really long DARK strands. So disgusting. The worst for me is fat or gristle on meat. Some Mexicans brought to school some famous "mexian dish" which turned out to be a type of pork or ham but with fat ALL OVER IT. It was so GROSs,I nearly gagged with it in my mouth and had to spit it out. Liver has that effect on me too. If I chew on liver, my gag reflex won't let me eat it.

Awww. Love that the fish is back on your blog-Oh, and I see his wearing a work out sweat band!! Swim fish, swim! Work that tail!! Regarding gross food..I didn't have to look for "stuff" in my food; I used to sit and eat dog food! I love it...crunchy and satisfying.Of course I was only 5 years old then...I would eat a piece and then feed another piece to my horse Snack Pack. We both shared in this delicacy!...I am wiggin out on the whole silver tooth thing, Nette!

Haha. Oops. Well you and me both-- but my dad sure knows someone who can brew their own beer ;) oh that must be so cool- is that those lasered designs on the eggs or something? So you've ridden an ostrich? That must be pretty tricky! ok ok I am REALLY going now... lol

I agree with you on that Chris - reality is though the rhinos get killed and their horns are being exported to the highest bidder.. loads of awareness are being created around this now and we have had a few successes in curbing the madness (ie money hunger)..

lol, heavens no Missy!! Me brewing beer?? huh uh, I don't even drink beer but I am sure I can come up with the recipe or ask someone to brew for some for Chris.. Talking about ostrich eggs. You should see the art work made from these eggs will try and get you some pics and send them via email.. Oudtshoorn is ostrich country so we actually get to ride these birds, if you are light enough (in weight) that is :D

Oh I wouldn't even Dare try to eat monkey flesh-- it is like eating a bit of myself, lol ^_^! Well just hope Chris that you don't ever get into a situation that you would be forced to eat human flesh -- the movie "Alive" comes to mind. Ok I need to go get some sleep, lol :) see you later, alligators! Thanks again for these stories, very interesting ;)

I've never tried ostrich meat before Wilma but that I think I could eat-- I sure would love to try to cook an ostrich egg! haha! Shucks, they're also eating rhino?? Oh wait you mean for their horns?? There's another animal here, the whale shark, which is also endangered that they keep hunting. Sad fact here is there are a bunch of laws to protect these animals, it's in the implementation where it gets screwed...but at least there are now more conservation groups who are making more efforts... and ooh Wilma, you know how to brew your own beer?

Well I could imagine how it can also get crazy if somebody tries to shut down that market? And most definitely-- I think for me it is more of eating something that is rare in numbers already, that would be one huge factor for me not to eat it...with sea turtles' survival rate also being so low, shucks it is a sad thought that they're still being killed for their meat-- it's so heartbreaking that these rare animals are being eaten :(

Talking about poaching Chris, we are having big time problems with rhino poaching here in South Africa, it is so sad.. They are becoming quite daring in their efforts to get these horns. So many rhinos have been killed and the numbers are increasing from previous years. I knew you would like the whole homemade beer thing ;) will soupmail you some as soon as I get my hands on some lol :D

Chris will have a ball at one of the traditional events here in South Africa, be it a wedding or a rites of passage ceremony oh and not to mention the home made beer lol.. All the different foods on offer :D I can't even get ostrich meat down my throat, what about tarantulas etc..

Date: 9/3/2011 2:35:00 PM
I would have thought as much, since their pee would be all over them I think! Oh shucks, poor tarantulas too! So what it's like crunchy, gooey? So it doesn't even taste good? I sure am surprised that they have as much variety of those ingredients available and they're not being banned? I remember how my grandma before told how she ate turtle meat & of how it was prepared, shedding tears while its shell was being taken out... oh shucks...

hahaha well I cam cackling right now, you must've enjoyed that dish Before you knew what it was! I suppose it would be akin to our "laing" here? Well it's not "Cow shii" nbut really taro leaves cooked in coconut milk & chili but it does look like poop if it's not wrapped in the taro leaves-- You sure are one tough nut to crack eh? I just bet that was their super weapon against you! Lol you must have been such a challenge to them! haha! oh shucks poor fruit bat!! didn't that stink?

Wilma, yeah over here it's pretty much the same with pigs... waste not want not...Yeah and one would think that eating intestines and balls would be gross.. I could eat the intestines and blood, though...But balls and poop, ok I think I am steering clear of those! lol

Oh Seriously?!?? Well that is just about the grossest thing I have ever heard! Ewww O_o! What did it taste like?? I cannot believe I am asking... haha sorta grassy I suppose?? And they actually enjoy eating that dish? Haha I can just imagine them laughing so much at your expense-- haha well at least you entertained them! Thanks for sharing Chris! lol, after reading the last one Chris , the thought it would only happen to you comes to mind :D btw here in SA especially when we go visit family in Kimberley during Christmas times the tendency is to buy a live sheep, so the truck comes around you choose your sheep and they slaughter it right there in the yard. You get everything from the wool to the intestines lol, I always made double sure what I am eating before I started eating

Hahaha! Oh my gosh, I am laughing so much right now--- Ewwww that is gross and how embarrassing at 5-star restaurants, too?! Band-aid in the soup, you'd go crazy why it was needed in the first place-- yuck@ that wiping hand idea and whoa!! an entire fingertip??! with those whorls in the cheese hahaha. Gross! I would've thought fingernails but the tip, at least it wasn't bloody! and yes of course, cat meat is so notorious as a "staple" for those siopao fillings here

Oh shucks! Sorry about that :D Well I sure do hope your cousin didn't chomp off the worm's head! Think of it this way, at least that lettuce wasn't bombarded with chemicals? If the worm was still alive :D! heehee. I think that was a friendly worm, just wanting to say Hi :D

This will put me totally off eating out for a while.. Yikes this is nasty Missy.. Okay we went out for coffee one evening an my cousin had ordered something to eat, don't think a worm in his lettuce was ever part of the plan lol - okay they did replace his food but who would want to eat after seeing the thing crawl around in your food.. Yuck, can't remember now if he took a bite of the worm :D Gosh that is gross

Tracie: Oh eww! A small fang?! that is scary, now it also makes me wonder what kind of meat it was O_o, I think I understand why you don't eat meat pies now... and Jack: Aack! Eww, ewww!! Well one sure wouldn't know, right?! Good thing for you that you don't eat there anymore-- I hope that whoever that guy is, is not at KFC where you eat or at any other food establishment...

LOL, eeew! Maybe you should have asked if there were any toothless chefs there. Thankfully, I didn't eat this - but I once read in the local newspaper that someone tasted semen in McDonald's mayo. I don't know how they distinguished the taste... We don't eat there anymore and just hope the guy didn't move to KFC instead : )

You got me laughing with the "Ahhakkk" Carrie! Sounded like you were trying to spit out something :D lol-- but oh my goodness! That is just crazy! what a sneaky wasp! I hope you weren't allergic to stings?? Eww, I Don't want to think what went through that drain plug O_o :p, your friend must have been appalled by that! And yup, it sure is best to just prepare your own meals, at least you know what's going into it!! Thank you for sharing :D

Ahhhakkk !! A tooth is the worst thing I've heard of ...ick!!! One time at a picnic, I was eating a piece of carrot cake, and a wasp flew onto it (looked like a walnut!)..I Ate the cake and the wasp, and got stung inside my cheek!....but worse, was a friend who was eating out in a lovely little restaurant in Grass Valley, California, and while eating her salad, she tried to cut into what she thought was an avacado....it turned out to be the rubber stopper (drain plug)...to the kitchen sink from the restaurant's kitchen! (Needless to say...they did not charge her for her meal!!)....mmmm....Once took a Chinese cooking class....so I can make my own spring rolls....guess that's the only safe way to be sure what one is eating....is to make it yourself!!!

Oh I know what you mean, thinking about how your food has been prepared can make one really wonder, most of the time I really prefer cooking food...& yup, have to agree with you, those fresh veggies sure make the difference! Does Leslie also make the egg roll wrapper? That can be pretty good, too! Remind me to send you how I make those ;) Uh-oh I don't have a recipe...
