For some time now, been wanting to just ramble on and on about different things, issues but don't have the brainpower to string them properly, so decided to just let some music do the talking for now...Music can truly powerful, can bring people together, and can send strong messages, and inspire--here are some songs that I think do that... .
I wonder if anybody's familiar with Trevor Hall? First heard his song umm I think a couple of years back, "Lime Tree" -- a seemingly simple song but one which can have some deep meanings if one looks into it-- the other songs that I've heard from him are also amazing... anyhow, just sharing it here.
Plus with Cyndi posting a blog and with Chris also sharing useful info and insights about what's happening at Standing Rock (http://standwithstandingrock.net/ ), it was quite timely how I found out he wrote a song as a tribute-- very beautiful song in my opinion --Standing Rock-- lyrics below. Hopefully more people can be aware.
Please do check Cyndi's blog and do what you can, thanks https://www.poetrysoup.com/poetry/blogs/blog_detail.aspx?BlogID=30923&PoetID=23760
"Standing Rock"
Lyrics
To the east and west
To the north and south
Warrior Warrior
Gather every tribe
Mama needs you now
Warrior Warrior
Suits are moving in just to get their dollar
Treaties being broken no respect or honor
Listen close my friend
This is happening
Warrior Warrior
If you are a rock
Stand up like a mountain
Rise up from the earth
One Love One Message
I know that we are strong in spirit
And if you are the righteous, hear it
If you are a rock
Stand up like a mountain
Burn the sage and cedar
Spirit is the leader
Warrior Warrior
The clouds are getting heavy
Thunder Beings are ready
Warrior Warrior
Where the oil spills we cannot drink the water
Seven Generations all the sons and daughters
Gather all your friends
This is happening
Warrior Warrior
Water is Life
Life from the Water
Water is Life
Elders they taught us
Water is Life
Life from the Water
Let me quote something that Trevor Hall said,
" They are mountains in and of themselves … touching the sky with their peaks of strength, love, and selfless service. But these mountains need their own water in the form of food, tents, blankets, and other materials in order to keep standing tall against the black snake.
Our love and prayers are with all people across the earth who are victims of corporate greed and power.
This one’s for you.
With love and light, Trevor Hall
Here's "Lime Tree"
Which with my line of thinking of course, and been meaning to be a bug about this and re-post it since I think it's quite timely for this song...so yep, I just have to highlight Matisyahu's "One Day" again--message holds so true...but yep, re-posting this cover by a Filipino singer (Bugoy Drilon), since I really enjoy that version from the Wish bus so much (posted it in my blog recently that included KZ Tandingan, do check it out if you want to hear amazing--well that's just my opinion :P)
"One Day"
Sometimes I lay
Under the moon
And thank God I'm breathing
Then I pray
Don't take me soon
'Cause I am here for a reason
Sometimes in my tears I drown
But I never let it get me down
So when negativity surrounds
I know some day it'll all turn around because...
All my life I've been waiting for
I've been praying for
For the people to say
That we don't wanna fight no more
There will be no more wars
And our children will play
One day [6x]
It's not about
Win or lose
'Cause we all lose
When they feed on the souls of the innocent
Blood-drenched pavement
Keep on moving though the waters stay raging
In this maze you can lose your way (your way)
It might drive you crazy but don't let it faze you, no way (no way)
Sometimes in my tears I drown (I drown)
But I never let it get me down (get me down)
So when negativity surrounds (surrounds)
I know some day it'll all turn around because...
All my life I've been waiting for
I've been praying for
For the people to say
That we don't wanna fight no more
There will be no more wars
And our children will play
One day [6x]
One day this all will change
Treat people the same
Stop with the violence
Down with the hate
One day we'll all be free
And proud to be
Under the same sun
Singing songs of freedom like
One day [4x]
All my life I've been waiting for
I've been praying for
For the people to say
That we don't wanna fight no more
There will be no more wars
And our children will play
One day [6x]
