Going Home on an Anniversary

Blog Posted by Carolyn Devonshire: 1/5/2011 12:34:00 PM
If the weather permits, I will return to my late father's home in Ormond Beach tomorrow.  The drive is about 370 miles from where I've been staying over the holidays.  I had intended to leave today, but there are storms across the Florida Panhandle.

Ironically tomorrow is the second anniversary of Dad's death.  It reminds me how sad I was when I became active on Poetry Soup just a couple weeks after he died, but there was such an amazing, supportive atmosphere here that it helped me cope with the grief.

I know we all come here for different reasons and hopefully we find what we need most.  Just want to thank you all for the kindness and friendship you have shown me these last two years.  You saw me through tough times and I'm very grateful to be part of the "Soup Family."

I know I've fallen behind with comments lately, but I will do my best to catch up.  I haven't been home for months and have been using borrowed computers.

Thanks so much for your compassion and support.

Love,
Carolyn

Home sweet Home, it is the end of the earth. You may roam all over the earth, but home is where your journey ends. Wish you happy and healthy.

In reading your blog I was jolted into realizing that Jan 5 is my daddy's birthday anniversary. I had gone all day without remembering. But he has been gone for 58 years. Have a good trip. Love, Joyce

I didn't realize you had been here that short of a time Carolyn. Actually only a short while longer than myself. Have a safe trip, be safe, watch for dead redwing black birds falling out of the sky and dead drum fish washing up on the river banks.Smile. Agape, Moses

You've been a special part of this family since day one. Just got back from Palm Beach. My daughter found out about my grandson, her nephew, right before we came down. She was pretty much devastated but we did share our own personal Christmas on the 17th and I'm looking forward to someday moving down. God Bless. Vince

Carolyn, I believe you will find relief when you walk into your home tomorrow evening. The stress will leave your body as you will be surrounded by your father's love. It is okay to let those tears fall. You need to let them flow. Then my dear find peace in knowing he is well now and awaits to be reunited with you one day. He does not want you to be sad anymore. Look to the sky and smile as he watches down and smiles back to you. Love and blessings always my dear friend, Carol

No, Andrea, the rest of the family will be at their own homes. I bought my father's house after he died, so this is my home now. It's just filled with memories and sooo many photos of Dad. Most of the time they bring me comfort, but I'm sure it will hit me when I walk in the door tomorrow night.

Is your family all meeting there, Carolyn? And gosh, you are doing very well keeping up on comments, at least from my standpoint. You are like a little rolling stone lately, aren't you, Carolyn!! Hope soon you can be with your own computer again! Luv, Andrea

It'll be hard going back to that house tomorrow, but maybe you'll feel closer to his spirit there. Have a safe journey, Diane

Frank, Dad's old home is now my home, so I won't be visiting. I'll be living there. I have to leave sometimes to travel and visit friends and family, but Ormond Beach is where I pay my property taxes. LOL Thanks to all of your for your encouragement and friendship. Love you all so much, Carolyn

An anniversary such as this, can be very difficult, Carolyn, just know that it is okay to feel sad occasionally, and ride with it, wrapped in warm memories. Each one of us bring happy days, as well as sad days to Poetry Soup, and the family here is waiting to lend an ear! God Bless and Hugs!!

Carolyn, it's hard to believe that two years have passed. There are many wonderful poets on the Soup, and it has indeed got that family touch. With so many great poems, it's so hard to keep up to speed on them all. Safe travelling back to Ormond....:)
