Premium Member Celebrate India Independence Day

It took us ninety years to get out from under the thumb
Of British rule, and many understand where we came from.
Mahatma Gandhi joined the fight in 1914 and taught us the way
To nonviolently protest with satyagraha, which we still use today

India got her freedom from the British on August fifteenth, 1947.
A jubilant day; I am sure our rejoicing could be heard in heaven.
Dancing and singing commenced in every town and street.
Our sheer exuberant happiness could not be beat.

Lord Krishna was there of course, we felt him in our bones.
We also sensed Radha, and danced to many ring tones.
The joy, the eager excitement, the happiness of that day
Has permeated India, and shall never go away!

Speaking to the world
up closer
 never knowing what to say
 getting far away
 running from the bulldozers
malicious Humanity
and when it's all said and done
and while I'm still yet under the thumb
As they reach for their Arsenal
I reach out to the one who comes
In his name is
He whom is the nameless one
 and His Fame is famous
 and his name is Jesus
and he will rescue us
you and I
for God is forever and ever
 Among Us
and He will free us from our toils
He will free my filthy soul
For He's never late he's always on time
He's allowed his son Jesus to wash me up and to make me whole

Under the Thumb

I’ve been setting up alarm systems
in shops along a city mall.
It appears a spate of break ins
has been the reason for my call.
And it was in a jewelers shop,
before that day called valentine,
for lovers was around the corner.
This day’s a jeweler’s gold mine.

I had to work around red roses;
chocolates for cupid’s buyers,
while I’m putting in the system
and connecting all the wires.
I was given cups of coffee,
and a cadbury rose chocolate,
as the pretty sales assistant,
tried to buy me with her chat.

When I say she tried to buy me
it was to make a honey sale.
She said stoned rings are discounted,
and ear ring gifts will never fail.
A diamond brooch is lovely;
perhaps a locket made of gold.
‘Your girlfriend will truly love you;’
But there’s no girlfriend she was told.

‘No girlfriend!’ she squeaked. ‘Why not?’
and I smiled ‘simply this you see.
I would love to have a girlfriend,
but alas my wife won’t let me.’

Premium Member The Question

I walk alone, into the night, out in the cold, after a fight
Oh no, Oh no, It's a desperate world
Under the thumb, I feel the pinch, I'm on the spot, this loves not right
Oh no, Oh no, It's a desperate world

I stand nude, exposed to light, no hand to hold, just out of sight
Oh no, Oh no, It's a desperate world
Watched every move, track every step, sent every plight
Oh no, Oh no, It's a desperate world

After a while I wander, over and over I ponder
What would life be like, on my own

I stand nude, exposed to light, no hand to hold, just out of sight
Oh no, Oh no, It's a desperate world
Watched every move, track every step, sent very plight
Oh no, Oh no, It's a desperate world

After a while I wander, over and over I ponder
What would life be like, on my own

Money-Love

money-love, makes a whore of us all

I think this ol' story might be yours

'makes me feel like them other freelance outlaws

y'know this old story could be yours

                       --------

promising a world to win or lose

catch them unawares when they are young

get them drunk on desire, keep them on the run

under the thumb, n' yet still so young

money-love, makes a whore of us all

I'm not above the struggle of money-love.

                     ---------

slight of hand, the cheapest of tricks and

interest to cash in on your prime

and woe betide, should them payments fall behind

y'know this here story could be mine

money-love, makes a whore of us all

I still think this ol' story could be yours

                   -----------

'want t' talk 'bout that what makes me sick

I'm not above the struggle of money-love

I Am Not Different

I am a child who is diabetic
and I will not be apologetic

I will not be embarrassed or ashamed
for I am not to blame

I am very brave and take injections everyday
always fighting infections along the way

I have days of dizziness when my sugar gets to low
so I may need to slow

While others have desert that every child loves
I'm under the thumb and can have none

I am proud of who I am!
So when you look at me I am not different
'I'm Simply Me'!

Scared

Scared

So you think YOU are scared
You just cant cope, being broke, no hope
So you buckle, jump to her word
Ditch what you’ve heard
All those thoughts that you had
When you were feeling so sad
Just forgotten, down trodden
You’re under the thumb man
Stand up and give a damn

I can tell you about being scared
Wanting to shout out loud but not even dared
Being fifteen and left all alone
Staying a week, then going back ‘home’
Doing my GCSE’s and my brain is racked
My family life has stumbled and cracked
Mum gets arrested for wielding a knife
Dad cannot hide from his trouble and strife
Ben lets it all out by punching a wall
What kind of life is this? Can’t they see it, the fools

Friends in higher education
But my family stole my concentration
Mum and dad are the people you can always trust
But broken promises turn to dust
We all make mistakes and from those we must learn
But again and again, there is no last turn
So much anger has built up inside
That, that happy go lucky girl long ago just died

So next time you’re scared with no strength left to climb
Don’t give up dad, things can only get better with time
