Spellin' Bees

Winners collect
on Spellin' Bees.
But studyin'...is
Tedious, such a Chore.

Trophies, ribbons,
cake, ice-cream.
Applause for pupils
who place fourth.

Winners collect
on Spellin' Bees.
But crammin'...is
Ho-Hum, such a Bore.

Knowledge, gift cards,
free-day sprees.
Treats for students

Candy-coated kisses under mistletoe.
Peppermint sticks used to stir marshmallowed cocoa.

Premium Member tricks-and-treats

Be especially careful on Halloween,
gather your children and rest serene,
for evil tenderly traces the darkness.

Tales tell what hides in darkest night,
witches fly dart-like in darkened skies
vampires that watch us with hungry eyes
those inhuman beings with unnatural reasonings,
who pounce with sudden, malicious impulse,
drawn by innocent breath and pulse.

Has anyone taken the time to explain
that witches are poisoned by sugary things?
Skittles, chocolates and marshmallow goo,
are toxins to werewolves and vampires too.

Simple exposure to sweets, like candy corn
will cause their skins to bubble and burn.
If you go out, to trick-or-treat - go with intent
- your lives may well depend on it.

Premium Member Daddy He Treats Your Daughter Mean

He treats your daughter mean, Lord, I can't be thankful.
For the misery he's caused, my heart feels so dreadful.
Because Daddy, he treats your daughter mean.

I ain't ever seen the sunshine in my dreams.
But the Lord knows I have got this gun, and a battle hymn to hum.
My boots are tied up tight, but my resolve gets tangled at night.
When I hear him call my name, it’s the only time he's tame.
Lord knows my love isn’t sane.

Heaven, I know, I ain't even trying to get through your door.
Send me a semaphore, I'll show him what all the crying's for
Black eyes and calloused hands, trade them for brass horns, and battalions
Banners and stallions, ticker tape parades and grand excursions

Lord, I'll leave him behind, for a diamond built under pressure.
A steam release valve, and a generator of pleasure
Because Daddy, he treats your daughter mean.

Set me right, help my sight, rose tinted and tainted, frosted, and blanketed.
Set me right, oh Lord, I ain't got much fight.
Broken hands and a rejected heart, Lord above, send me a restart.
A preacher in the night, full of sonnets and song

Treats

• Pink envelopes with letters inside
• Red and white balloons filled with sweets
• This experience is not an unusual one
• On St. Val's I always get treats
• I don't know from who
• I don't know from where
• But they're done with good intentions
• So I don't really care

Premium Member Tinseled Treats Poem Two

Tinseled treats, hung from our Christmas tree.
Young, saucered eyes, just gleamed and shined
At the charming, twisting gold and silver art works.
For indeed, these are one of this holiday’s perks!

To a very young child, they whisper of things magical.
Swaying and dancing, they observe from Mother’s clavicle
And though speech, be not theirs, as of yet.
Their artistic sensibilities soar like a fine jet!

Add the scents of frankincense and myrrh,
You will be blessed to hear an infant purr.
Delighting in wonders of the Christmas season.
Every fiber of their being, dances with no reason.

Premium Member Halloween Trick or Treats

full moon on hallow's eve
ghosts and goblins
will be trick or treating
for bags and bags of candy
toffee apples on sticks
enough sweets to rot their teeth

children roam the streets
as costumed munchkins
looking for yummy treats
darkness filled with characters
older kids dressed up wild
ranging from devils to angels

spooky pumpkins
carved with care
eerie sounds from coffins
in the dead of night
creaking doors and then
the graveyard comes to life

It's Halloween night for these three oddballs
Spooks the masks, costumes, candies, norms, and dolls
Three little boys on the prowl
That looks displaced, strange, and foul
Their sights were on scaring with their eyeballs

Ready for their 'STAGES', to present LOUD and PROUD
Waiting to EXPRESS at the door of the ADDRESS

FOOLS and GHOULS and 'WITCHES' too
QUEUE up in 'STITCHES' to show off their BOO!
And collect their TREATS as they meander along the STREETS so new
