Aromatic, foul
Fuming scent, last night’s dinner
Reeking, stinking smells

To another woman he shall surely switch,
The present one definitely ditch,
His voice at its most embarrassing pitch,
Now naming her ‘White Witch,’
Soon renaming her ‘Black ,’
Curious passersby to never know “which? “
Nor why his nostrils flare and twitch,
A bit believing that this might be flesh and its itch
And a great deal surer that he’s stinking rich:
The level of Affluence judged a down-dragging hitch,
Worse than Tyson’s landed punch on Green Mitch!

Wolfie and Drac went out for a quick drink,
Met up with Frankie who started to stink…
Deadly-while popping his head,
Lively- to wake up the dead,
So the boys took him apart link by link.

We don’t need no stinking contests,
ones in which I can suppose
of the form we’re asked to write in
that the sponsor little knows.
Sometimes sponsors give us rules.
In the end, there is no doubt
that they simply disregarded
major rules they had spelled out.
We don’t need no stinking contests -
wherein every entrant’s fate
is N/A while just one winner
is an entry not so great.
I do not expect perfection
from the sponsors, for I know
it’s not easy judging contests.
Fairness many sponsors show.
Thanks to sponsors who inspire us
with a word or a phrase. Indeed,
I’ve few complaints; there’s just one thing:
no stinking contests do we need!

“We don't need no stinking poetry contests.”
There now I said it, I needed it off my chest.
I try to write something bright and elegant,
but I forgot the other word for cross-dress.
I seriously believed, I do confess,
I had the memory of an elephant.
Now, if I enter your contest,
are you going to award me another N/A.
If so, why should I bother to enter your stinking contest
for another N/A.

If we never want to...
experience poetry forms new
Or... read how other poets
on the same theme do it
As well as... meet a deadline
with a poem ready on time
Or maybe... show capability
of your rule readability
And... no need to discern
new words to learn
If any of these are so...
then PS should know...
No more would indeed be best...

"Contests. We don't need no stinking contests."
We..What's this "we" stuff,
You got a mouse in your pocket
Or is this a Mexican stand off?
Pff....Whatever! I'm a single player
Compeating against other mis-chief makers
I have no rules!
I'm a second rate gal
With a second rate termology
Go away boy scout
Your to much of a lamb
Contests are for dopes
Writing in the hopes
Of winning a killer diller deal
What's the deal anyways?
There's no money involved
The grand prize is recognizing the top dog
-Silent-
(Cough, cough)
Suck an egg poetic justice
You like to judge with a smile
I like to smile when I'm winning
There's no team in winning
Did I say winning again
I meant, there's an "I" in team
I am one team
Winner or loser
Losers gain a bum rap
Villians blazingly laugh
And winners......well winners are still Losers
We don't need no stinking contests
There's no publisher scouting us

We Don’t Need No Stinking Contests
Contests! Contests! We don’t really need them!
Stupidness, silliness, it burns all my brainstems.
“Throw them out! To the archives do feed them!”
We’ll be better off, just enjoying to read them.
Judging judges with critical grudges,
My work is my art, not a platform for blunders!
Eat me, chew me, then repeat on reverse gear!
Who says I’m no good! When I could be the next Shakespeare!
“Contests! Contests! We don’t need no stinking contests!”
So, I win some, I lose some, nobody could careless!
“Yes, I’m Thee poet, because I know it”,
Now read my submission and let me show it!

We don’t need no stinking contests
They won’t make the words shine brighter
Writing is what it is, with or without status
No prizes are needed to keep on going
Contests offer a new, fun, challenge
When someone may be in the mood
But, we don’t need no stinking contests
To express feeling we choose
To speak what we want
To share our thoughts with others
To teach from lessons learned
To inspire those who we may reach
To show beautiful scenes
It is the essence of freedom with writing
From the depth of the soul
From the wisdom in the mind
From the feelings in the heart
It is to be who we are with every written word
Written without rules and beyond the limits
Placements in contests, received or not
Will never change our individual choice
- To write and write again -

Hey why didn't I place?
Were my rhymes and grammar not
up to your high and mighty standards?
I know maybe you don't like me and we're
not in the same “cyberspace” click.
Or I didn't soup mail you to butter you up
and pretend like I want to be your new
internet buddy.
Whatever the case I will write on whether I
get an N/A or if I even place at all.
Because I write for me and I want to get
better at my craft. Furthermore, I do it for
plain old fun.
This is just something to think about when
you host your “ stinkin” contest. Like you so
finely put who needs them anyway.

The treasure of a placement, the thrill of a win
"But we don't need no stinking contests," he said with a grin
Poetic gems soon lost their shine
Becoming dull and undefined
"We don't need no stinking contests," he said with a smile
As inspiration diminished after a while
Poets no longer needed to compete
Their muses have vanished, the 'agony of defeat'!
"We don't need no stinking contests," he said with a sigh
As he realized things had gone awry
The treasure of a placement, the thrill of a win
And then he shouted "Let the contests begin!"

Don't need no stinking contests you say,
sure I know my poems are good;
but I do not want my words to decay,
and without a contest they would.
Muse gone to sleep, with
no words that weep;
still I could, yes,
could, and have less stress;
to write a poem for a theme.
Oh, but writing for contests is a dream !

Poetry contests.
What? This makes no sense.
How do you compare a unicorn to a chair?
But then this happened.
I started running out of ideas; my writing ability crashed. My muse had deserted me.
I began clicking around the PoetrySoup site, desperate for inspiration.
The last click was on contests.
Because contests do not make sense.
Poetry is putting your soul on paper, not a contest.
What if I thought of a contest less as a competition and more as a brain challenge?
Poetry contests have forced my muse to think.
My muse was delighted, she came dancing and singing back with full force.
She was playing again, and she loved it.
Contests encourage her to try new ways, new types of poetry, and to use new words.
My muse and I have held our own contests too.
Poetry contests encourage and challenge other people’s muses.
If you have not sponsored one, we highly recommend it.
It is a way to give back to others.

We don’t need no stinking contests
Motivation’s deep inside.
Endless golden cyber trophies;
Only serve to puff up pride.
N/As have accumulated
PS judge is pretty mean.
Why spend hours with pen being active
If we’ve no poetic gene?
We don’t need no competition.
Join the cynics’ bold crusade.
Add your name to my petition;
Join the ‘Bitter Bards’ Brigade’.
Just a minute! Email’s popped up-
Second placement! What a star!
Disregard my fulminations
This contender’s going far!
