Empty Jars

Empty things-

Empty rooms-filled with things-
Empty vases-empty jars
Empty seats-
Cupboards that are bare-

Corridors-in my mind-
Long and narrow-alone I stare-
Vacant land -
You once – were there!

Van Gogh - Contest

In Paris away from darker side shows his aptitude for still life. Painted with a genius brush his vases of flowers, vibrant visions are captured on his canvases. Van Gogh lives.

Jars

Flasks and drums
Vases and urns
Barrels for holding pickles

Bowls and cups
Pots and pans
Piggy banks for nickles

Beakers, pitchers
Bottles for milk
Mere vessels for the rookies!

For no container
In the world
Can beat my jar of cookies!

Three Haikupoems About Clematis

color, flower, nature, rain, red, star, sun,

Climbing clematis
Creep in among the trellis
And coloured stars show!

Rain and sun are needed
For blooming clematis buds
And butterflies to come!

Vases hold clematis
While water keeps them on tap
To display inside!

The Labyrinth

Swallowing
My timidity
With a long
Shot of puff

Amidst a sea of Jasmines
Sitting on wooden vases

Rippling
The smile
I hardly wear
With warm

Swaying lips-- so tender
Yet, as I dragged myself

To outlast
The whims
Of doubts--
Inside me

My mate came, with question
Marked on her face, in protest

Dandelion Days

They were the golden days in many ways,
When I once gave Mom dandelion bouquets.
She loved those bright vases of blooms,
Cheering the corners of childhood rooms!

The lavender dawns and crimson evenings,
Plus the deep golden yellows in between,
Gave rise to such kaleidoscopic memories,
As a rare gemstone's glittering energies.

Lilacs

Their purple blossoms herald Spring.
Their fragrance pure, memories bring.
Every year on Mother's Day
blooms in vases on display.

Lilacs, these I love the best.
Far more fragrant than the rest.
Such a short life that they live
but, oh, the joy that they give.

Rainy Days

Rainy Days

On rainy days celery sticks make
pillow forts, cookies eat
packs of
cards, test tubes learn
how to
draw, vases lip
sync Gloria Estefan songs, paper airplanes look at
old pictures of
their recycled relatives, Styrofoam cups break
down, ladders bend and
stretch, and
lunch boxes grow
long shiny
silky hair.

What If All Peacock Feathers

what if all peacock feathers were orange and pink?
would that be too wonderful?
would everyone have to have them in vases?
I would, for sure.
we know, my friends say, we know.
they have been to my home where everything is orange and pink.
my favorite colors, all over the place.
I have not painted the refrigerator yet, but I am thinking about it.

Beauty's Bounty

White, the purity of fresh-fallen snow
Pink, the shine of a unicorn's glow

Yellow, soft dazzling rays of summer sunshine
Orange, marigold tea blended with wine

Red, lipstick's lure; sensuous kisses
Purple, insignia of princes and princesses

Bright colors all, beauty's bounty of roses
Fill crystalline vases, in gay fetching poses

in the moment

flowers near the window
in bright yellow

a filmy white curtain
swaying in the breeze

late afternoon sunshine
bouncing off walls

a tea pot steaming
a tea cup empty

a book lying open
on a vintage bed

colour glass vases
sparkling in the sun

a tranquil silence
fills the space

photographs
on dresser

purple walls
need paint

Island of Fantasy

Paradisiac haven with cerulean skies
White cockatoos and blue macaws
Flock between the coconut palms
Resembling celestial paradises

White satin sheets cover the king beds
Red exotic flowers decorate fine vases
Promise to couples romantic nights
Educing hidden passion in the veins

Beneath Mima's Canopy

Graying clouds, faces
Sprinkled with tears of sorrow...
Deepening thunders

Howling winds, braces
Buffeted by ghastly breath...
Trembling ropes and spikes

Blowing rains, vases
Overturned near grave diggers...
Strewn flower petals

Clearing skies, races
Blanketed the pink coffer...
Gifting her gray vault

Waning tears, faces
Leaked with canopy waters...
Tossing earth within

Guarding Red Roses

The fairest of vases sits upon a mantle high
While admiring eyes gaze; doors breathe a long sigh
No expression nor smiles, but its presence calls
To kings and serfs steadfast within encamped walls
Like a beacon shines through opaque, foggy skies
Captures glances of awestruck ones, mesmerized
Unadorned, its beauty, most exquisite pales
But guarding red roses, beauty never fails

an expensive one to break

I keep returning to the jewelry store to look at the vase.
It has all of my favorite colors.
hot pink, orange, turquoise, lavender
I really want it, but it is expensive.

all of my other vases have been thrown out.
Because I am horrible with glass.
I have broken them all into bits.

This would be an expensive one to break, my husband says.
That tears it.
I have to have it now.

SEA GLASS

SEA GLASS

Memories are sea glass on the beach
Washed and cleansed from the waves
Staring up as eyes in the morning sun
Some blue, some green, some clear
Reflecting shades of different things
Once were merely bottles on a shelf
Or fancy vases hoping for better times
Each with a kind of gained elegance
Discarded, now as jewels transformed
Eager for collection and remembrance

Wrong Places

Lose your mind
Doing time in all the wrong places

Got some friends
Lots of friends
In all the wrong places

Choose which one
They're all fun
Pretty faces

Dressed their best
Wearing less
In all the wrong places

On display
Come what may
Lined up like vases

Take your chance
Cash advance
In all the wrong places

Lose your heart
Here's where to start
In all the wrong places

Raging Spring

Siblings
will take care of the morgue.
I am going to hang my god
today. Howling winds
are crashing into my breath.

In the sea
of flags, the white death walks on
naked bodies of faith. Innocence
will take a back seat
listening to the roaring assault
of blues.

Was it a hymn to drink
the religion of rage ?
The men sitting in the glass vases
worshiping the rising sun in awe
with folded hands.

The 'Broken' Nose

Swollen eyes
Smeared blood on my chin
Iron taste in my throat
Stinging nose
Cheeks like a fire truck
Eyes like leaky vases
Drip drip drip
Blood everywhere
Blood not stopping
Blood still falling out
Clots of it in my sink
Lots of it on my cheek
CNBD struck again

*CNBD is Chronic Nose Bleed Disorder
I have anywhere from 4 to 30 nosebleeds a week ranging in severity, so I wrote a poem about it

Artifacts

In a well lit room, where the artifacts lay There are pieces of art strewn across the floor The lovely works of art are here on display The people that come and see them all want more There are statues, vases, sculptures, and paintings These that bring awe to many who are seeing Wanting to see art from many parts of Earth These pieces are special showing their great worth
