A tone-deaf woman in Tucumcari
made a wish to sing like a canary
Her perpetual sadness
has now turned to gladness
It’s just eat, tweet and be merry!

Blind men searching for a silent sound
amid the cacophonic ruins
of solitude’s deafness.

Do You Hear What I Hear, Question Mark
The carol singers at my door,
I greeted them with tone deaf song,
My hand outstretched, they shuffled off:
I didn’t get a quid – what’s wrong?

Do you hear what I hear? For Kim’s Carolling contest...

Age Old
This is an age-old complaint,
About singers who ain't such saints,
Younger music sounds like trash,
Our eardrums they do bash,
What makes them so tone deaf,'
Try a new career, catch your breath!...

Tone-Deaf
tone-deaf
unintelligible
mumblings
escape into the air
like nails spreading
across a chalkboard
causing confused
expressions to spread
across the faces of those
around
break out in an all out
two left footed choreography
the look at me look at me
show has begun...

Black and White
Sound now
play loud
play soft
low key
high key
please me
shock me
eyes cry
laugh loud
sing out
tune mad
tone deaf
don't care
scream shout
sharp soft
sound off
sound on
run round
up down
dance round
great time
crowd cheer
shout more
thank you

Benighted
The chosen
tone deaf
to their fortune

Musicians
their heads
in the sand

The roadies
eat pizza
still frozen

While Angels
play bass
in the band

Indulgence
the pick
on their fretboard

Entranced
by the lure
of the bong

Benighted
the riffs
play without them

Not going
or coming
— just gone

(The New Room: March, 2024)

Premium Member Belittled Bedraggled
Listen to poem:
Constant denigration
wears you down
you feel so small
as your efforts are
downgraded with cast-off scoffs.
Your pearls bedraggled,
lack lustre,
displayed dimmed and dulled,
squelched by doubt,
smeared in fear.
Duet performance discordant
sung in disharmony
with lead player out of tune,
tone-deaf.
Belittled, you be,
and bedraggled becomes you....

Premium Member Canary On a Limb
One sunny afternoon amid a snowstorm
appeared a lovely rainbow.

A canary on a limb chirped a sweet tune,
but he had no voice and was tone-deaf.

The small blind hound below witnessed
the whole show.

If you doubt the story, call up the deaf
mouse that’s studying to be a chef.

Moonlight Concert
MOONLIGHT CONCERT

Moonlight’s song is borrowed, trite.

Unless her echo is lent tune bright
From a golden-voiced source,
Her own cadence is coarse:
It has no life of its own.

Hear the moon, on stage alone
In black magnificence. Her rule
Is of an empty kingdom cool,
With tone-deaf somnolence - unless
Daylight’s king of harmony bless
Her with warm tones of delight :
In songs that wake the night....

Turkey Tom's Tiny Tidbits, For Carol
"Anything i can do, you could do better!"
I'm different. I like my sushi well done.
"Sure you're right!...Who cares?"
I'm as wise as a potato chip.
Is it illegal to leave a night-light on in the day?
"If music be the food of love...I'm tone deaf."
So what? I guess my self-confidence made me inferior.
I hired an interior decorator for my refrigerator.
I spend my time figuring out how to spend my time!!

good day , Carol.......

Premium Member Reality
I'm stuck in a maze… but I see a way out
I'm in quicksand, but I can somehow breathe

I'm blind, but I have twenty, twenty vision
I'm starving but I have enough food

I'm full of hate, but I love everybody
I'm trapped inside my mind but I'm free

I'm an opera singer but I'm tone deaf
I'm a fast runner , but I didn't pass go

Why do I feel this way in the midst of chaos?
Because a positive attitude changes reality

Premium Member Trapped
stuck inside these four walls
i pretend to be tone deaf
stubbornly manage to ignore
the incessant dull screams
echoing from deep within
i recognize my muse trapped
crying for freedom of expression
the artist bound and ligatured
itching to be let out of confines
craving to be set free to thrash about
if i ever get out of here
splash some colors wild and loose
drawing free curves and swirls
on canvas of every shape and size
