Legend of New York

Legend of New York
Always unattainable
Always seductive
Where sirens will always sing
Where bright lights memories bring

Desperate

Sirens break the night
Shatter the silence apart
Rhythmic, melodic
My heart tears gently open
Please will you take me with you

Sirens

Updated for a more
Maddening day-and night!
Of an ear's fright
Pleasant route's harness bells.
Now and piercing, roadways'
Alarming brays.

A Midwestern Evening

                    Spring winds rattle walls
trash cans roll along the street—
                       No sirens this time

after the sirens

not anyone
had spoken for hours
but the hard hallway remembered
the sound's echo of ambulance light
and how a woman still clutched her locket

Breathe out.
Watch the dust.
Phone buzzes.
Read text.
Reply.
Back begins to ache.
Sirens somewhere.
House creaks.
Phone buzzes.
Read text.
Ignore.

Air Raid 1940

The drone of bombers
In the night sky
A wail of sirens
From the terrified city
Where youth and innocence die.

Bright doldrums exist as seagreen sirens,
                          hovering forest of trees,
                              approaching the dock whips.

  Sirens have rung

Mulholland Drive

Rebel’s highway,
toll free line
Drifting median,
ill defined

Sirens distant,
flashing lights
Mocking laughter
—death’s delight

                          extra to get home

give me a home where, no traffic does roam and the sirens are quiet (all day)

Sirens

I wake to the sound of red alarms and harsh blue whistles,
Perhaps this is just a false occurrence, it sounds always these days,
The notion is struck down, this world is full of violence.

A Missouri Spring

In the dark of night,
jolted from my bed,
with a thousand thoughts,
racing through my head.

What a dreadful sound,
those loud sirens bring,
welcome to one more,
warm Missouri spring.
Form: Rhyme

Heartbreak

Myriad stars glitter
Sad music strains filter

Dreamily seen drifting
Seemingly your gifting

Horizon’s eye awakes
Sirens all but forsakes

Towers of rage thunder
Showers wept asunder

     Into racially charged environs
        burst cattlemen with branding irons

Followed, fortunately, by squadcars' screaming sirens
Whew... Sure glad those were 'dry runs'
