An eighty year old grandma
Telling stories to few kids
Trying to remember
What it was when five
Opened up a Sandbox
Went in dead...
Came out alive.

I do not know?
What if I won a million-dollar jackpot
Would I still be the same sweet lovable crackpot
Yup, sure would
That's understood
I'd share it with my poetry friends in the sandbox

Limerick
I am turning back weathered pages of time,
to our backyard sandbox.
Dad made it for me,
and my brother.
I see us,
playing,
so peacefully.
Oh, why did you go,
to that war so far away,
and came home to us in a flag draped box ?

Sand.
Rough grains.
In the wind.
Lifted by air.
Sandbox, child's delight.
Providing hours of play.
Happily covered in sand.
The beach, largest sandbox of all.
Sandcastles built high, proudly displayed.
Ever holding childhood dreams and wishes.

Thursday comes on slides of hope
sandbox at the bottom
to soften the fall of tender
feet left at the door without ‘em
the crips and troubled stand up tall
as Tuesday’s storm has cleansed it all
to clarify the dreaded fall
kept safe within a melted soul

When I was a little tot playing in the sandbox meant a lot.
I could play all day, I played and played, until the sun went
his way. What fun I had, making faces happy and sad. But
as the day began to end, I put on a frown no more sand box.
No more sand all around.

Ah! But to be unnoticed
But to be in the shadows of
life's living day by day
To be the veiled spectator
of a father cutting grass and
a child in the sandbox-
To witness these normal things
normal people do on a normal day
is pure ecstasy to one who
glides past all like an unseen
wind.

Karma lapped me
for the eight time
[possibly nine]
slapped me on the
shady side of life...
left jagged streaks of black and blue
up and down the flanks of my false pride.
I though I was playing in a sandbox
but in fact it was the heart of God...
time has turned into ticking scars-

For the final time
the white manes sat along the edge
of the sandbox
digging for ball and jack, a tin toy
perhaps a glimmering nursery rhyme
bits of innocents, the dance of time.
but now they need to leave
the vapor of their shinning verse
on the edges of a blackened universe
white manes.

I do not know?
Edenic laughter of childhood
Caressed by carefree joy
Take us with you
To the land of unmeasurable
Mirth with endless possibilities
God bless the besties
Young and untroubled
Stirring up the puddle waves
Making mud pies
Walking circles atop sandbox tire
Arm in arm
No enemies
Friends Forever

hand to hair twirling
into the calmest air
finding you stealing
looks at me
with my knees
deep into the sandbox
songs song deeply
out of key while
you yawn and smile
pleasingly at our photograph
of kissing upon a dream
rainbows wrapped around
a candycane
with the deepest hues
that sorrow could paint
into this heart

Play in the sandbox bury your toys
Androgynous youth girls and boys
Dolls for girls no matter the age
Trucks for boys play in the sage
Lift my spirit child of mine
Playful soul outlasting time
Boys wear dresses
Girls wear pants
Androgynous youth
Play in the sand
Laughter and singing
Dancing and fun
Summers playful heat
Glorious fun

A young boy is playing in a sandbox not far from a busy intersection.
He is wearing a hearing aid.
He has almost finished digging a large hole.
The sounds of the cars grow louder as rush hour approaches.
He climbs into the hole and takes off his hearing aid.
He starts to pour sand in both of his ears and begins to cry.
The traffic continues...

The Playground (Haiku)
The rope tied tighter,
The swing is swinging so high,
Thy playground is fun.
Each child takes a turn,
Playing in the kids playground,
Joy on their faces.
Tether ball, sandbox,
Many children love playtime,
All kids love playgrounds.
Monkey bars are fun,
One hand back to front swinging,
Each swinging child smiles.

Endured a hapless energy renegade
Spiked for purple Kool-Aid
Sandbox toys with tortured minds
Bless-ed wink at my duress
Potato truck deposits you
While life is laughing back
Go ahead and crawl again
Walking fakes a man of you
Flipped like pancakes over done
Just you see there is no “fun”
Crash the fence inside your mind
No Picasso poet son

Sandbox
Come join me in my sandbox,
Where the task of executing begins,
A vast space, a separate place,
To test without affecting the end!
While creative juices flow freely,
From the minds of the specialist,
The applications rest comfortably,
In My sandbox environment!

Dripping the sounds,
of endless chatter,
welcoming madness,
to calm my cry.
My state of denial,
overpowers my shame,
I'm just a flower,
picked in a field,
then blown away.
See me fly,
my colored feather,
landing on a child,
inside a sand box.
While he builds his castle,
and peeks through its windows,
raining sand,
that pours out his ears.

I do not know?
I’ve come back from a lowering cloud.
I heard nothing near to the sound of your voice,
Though the scent of your hair was in the air.
Do you recognize me when I can’t find myself?
Are you the Irresistible Stone?
The beach of beaches
Stolen from God’s Perfect Sandbox?
I may drift off again, you know.
But if you hold my feet next time, well,
Who knows what might happen.

Sandbox is rusty
The swing is covered with mold
They are so lonely
Without their bluebird
Playing and squealing on hold
Disappeared no word
Little chair’s broken
Vines withered away and brown
Hope you’ll be back ‘round
Drum beats no longer
Tambourine’s quieter than quiet
Frozen berries thawed
Mimi’s arms aching
For her Wrenna girl to hold
just don’t understand

"License and registration please," the officer said to me.
"Is there a problem officer?" I asked politely.
"Are you serious?!" he snapped back angrily,
and so I decided to just sit in my car quietly,
parked in a playground, in its sandbox,
with frightened children surrounding me.
A word of advice to everybody,
Never drive after taking cough syrup,
and never chase it down with mushroom tea.

I remember when I was three years old
playing in a sandbox at the playground,
and how much fun I had when it wasn't planned.
I'd create wondrous castles to behold
using a pail, and I'd sculpt the background
by hand.
Like stepping into a magical box,
that sandbox appeared especially grand.
A perfect place, for no one was around
when my imagination played with rocks
and sand.

Got my doctorate
In sandbox
With a double major in
Nose picking
Graduated “magna-cum lousy”
From the “driveway art course”
Served an apprenticeship in
“It’s your dog pick up after it”
Rose to great heights tree climbing
Also got to meet the firemen
Taught my parakeet
To BOO those F-N Yankees
Rooted for the RED SOX
A true love/hate relationship
I understand Bill Belichick
But not what he says

Wisdom as time brushed these eyes in somber shades..
Covered gray taking another drag while pondering this sepulchre
An empty task and Hyde, always makes me laugh ? Tis my other half
Two babies amid their sandbox ? Tugging upon the rope chattering away
Aneath her deep blue sky watching his world passing by; holding them close....
When love's tiny precious heart begins to cry ? Saying, Hush little baby it'll be alright.
