Thought Name Was Rhododenron
You no longer want to be hindering;
Thought your name was rhododendron;
Poetry star,
By far,
And Janet Leigh was your kindred.

As
blossoms
on the breeze-
rhododendron
scents
life
alive
in the trees,
ripple shaded
green,
wool
clouds drift
on blue sky-
summer arrives
soon....

Seven Trails Cross Damascus
I'm never going to see
the great rhododendron giants
of Virginia
or yell"Hey Bear",
on the Appalachian Trail
seven trails cross Damascus
not one to Jerusalem....

A peerless beauty from a distant land,
now loved in rainbow colours round the globe,
her tresses, curls and sumptuous curves delight,
she’s surely clad in Nature’s finest robe....

New Year's Day
One tiny bird
Puffed so large
his wings won't close
Perched in the stick leaf
Rhododendron
On the only stem
 still clinging snow
Tasting it to wet
a tip of beak
 Just a wee
Dock'n doris
in sunny frozen
Wind...

The Willow

Rhododendron,
Baobab,
Methuselah.
Steadfast. Unbent. Pliable.
Wind. Water. Fire.
Arrow. Sword. Brick.
Cupid’s missile.
Weeping Willow.
Rigid.
Frigid.
A ladder.
The tower.
Faithless Leap.
The salt water stings.
Weeping Willow....

Rhododendron poof and purple fumes fill my world Lavish, rich nature. Maroon like the dawn of days greeting the sun's honey glaze. Saffron finch descends to join the elegant crowd vast and varying in colors of the rainbow that keep me at the window.

a blue pansy night
indigo sundown garden
impacting colors

rubies in the sky
and gems where I am walking
dramatic nature

rhododendron drones
honeybees are yet in blooms
at the day's downfall

Sunset On Rocky Top
This mountain's Rocky top
Catching clouds
Like fingers through the air
Dampens rhododendron blooms
And muddies paths we follow up
Always, going up

Daylight peirces smokie haze
Striking peaks
A Golden warmth across our face
Just enough to set for night
And sends us shelters way
Together, another day...

Last Day
Yellow thistle flowers
Are browning by the hour,
And lavender is losing fast her light;

The rhododendron rows,
Once glowing pink and gold,
Have given into autumn’s slow decay;

Though butterflies still fly,
And bees still buzz and perch
Upon their faded petals as they fall,

The last September day
Is quickly giving way,
And with her passing spring will be forgot....

The rhododendron is my state flower.
In nature its blossom is pink,
But horticulturists have made the bloom
Any color of which you can think.
I go to the garden store to buy one,
To plant in my garden at home.
I take much longer to choose my new plant
Than I do in writing this poem.
"It will grow very fast " the salesman said,
"And blossom in purple and red."

Luck Is a Lady
A family of chickadees
Hopping through the
Many perches of the
Rhododendron out side this open window
As a humming bird sips daintily
From the tiniest of blue flower spikes
Up sticking from the window box
The sun is within an hour of setting
Lighting veins of red pink green leafed wonder
What marvels my better half has wrought
With busy living fervor
While I sit by and pick and peck
At words and hope to still deserve her...

Delight
Dappled sunlight on emerald leaves,
Rhododendron trusses painted in rainbows.
Daffodil ablaze in golden glory,
Roses dipped in dark burgundy.

Garden of beauty a temptation to all,
Vivid colours crying out to be adored.
Gently descending floating on the breeze,
Vibrant shades of azure adorn her wings.

Delight to the world a thing of beauty,
Resting motionless amidst a rainbow.
Densely clustered petals her throne,
Resplendent in the mottled light. ...

My Rhododendron of Loneliness
The arcs of how you work
On the PC before the desk
Chords of the circles
You paint while you talk
Hilly sentences of poems

The tales of the muscles
Swing in crimson sunshine
The machine you handle
While the steel melts
They are your boyfriends
They flirt overtly
Baskets of flowers, laugh

Sun sits on marigolds
I see you walking
Doing your hair
Talking to the unruly breeze
Holding you tight
In the pink behind

Poems ring on telephone
My rhododendron of loneliness...
