Persistence

Here I stand on shaking ground
The lion pounces,
knocks me down
Up from the ground
I stand, and then
the lion knocks me down again.

Lovely Lemmy - For Barry

Sweet Lemmy’s a cute pussy cat, bright coloured balls he loves to pat, cat treats he adores, he’s fast on his paws, and pounces like an acrobat. 08/24/20

Mistaken Identity

The royal cat nips from staring morning glories drunkenly pounces

I Wait On

Minutes seem long as hours, hours as ages,
Await meeting beloved,
Needles of the clock freeze !

Eyes stare at rendezvous, unending wait ,
Sudden adrenaline gush,
Heart pounces, blush on face !

Stalking Prey

Like tigers, cats stalk their prey waiting for the perfect moment to pounce. Intense focus is required for success in the kill. The fierce cat crouches low and with a butt wiggle he pounces, the catnip mouse unaware of danger.

Better At Hiding - Kib

Better at hiding- KIB

Imbued in vast ocean of grief,
as emotions dig deep ;
Heart pounces on my soul,
I bid adieu to a great dad ;
Tears scroll down in miffed sleep ...
Lunar tides go tranquil.

Along Came a Spider Contest

A tree spider sat waiting
in the hollow of a trunk
in ambush for her prey
by stealth she would eat

no web just camouflage
patiently she waits
along came a lizard
she pounces on it

Darting with her sting
which starts dissolving
the flesh of her prey
she happily sups

Fishy

The cat crawls
The cat growls
Fustration, preadation
Fishy, fishy swimming in the tank
Come fishy, fishy I won't hurt

The cat crouches
The cat pounces
Fishy, fishy you are mine
My, oh, my you look divine

The cat sleeps
Not a peep
Fishy, fishy you tassted good
You didn't scream
Like I thought you would

Gone

Where has it gone?
The spring of our youth...
The autumn of middle age rapidly steals away our mobility,
and the harsh winter of old age pounces on us like a cat on a frightened mouse.
We have so few moments on this earth... Like dandelions in an open field,
we sway in the breeze for a few days, and then we are gone.

Cat and Mouse

There's
a mouse
in my house
and my cat wants
to play. He stalks it
like a lion stalks its
prey. And when the time is right
he pounces on the sneaky pest,
and the game of cat and mouse is in
full sway. I wonder who will win this fray?

I Am

I am
the smile that melts from your lips when you see something you will you hadn't
the squeak and squeal of your shoes on tile flooring after it rains
the smell of toast burning in a cold kitchen that normally smells of citrus
the sparkle in a child's eye when a dog pounces and rolls all over them
the light of the moon on a dark dirt road guiding you home
I am gone

Flimsy Future Feared

sturdy sole shrunk
gaunt gifts gulped
taunted twain tamed
felon fallacies feigned
mystic move birthed
rhythmic reels perched

wit's wasp worn
tamed twain torn
bugged bruises borne

ferocious pounces punctured
porous pills fractured
leering la-de-da leisure

pulpy pasts peered
flimsy future feared.

Acrostic Agility Poetry Contest

Paws on the windowsill, waiting for me
Ears perked up at the jingle of keys
Treats disappear with lightning speed

Dirt on the floor, but I don’t mind
Over and over, he’s one of a kind
Goofy grin, tongue out, tail wagging behind

Torn-up bear, stuffing all around
Once his favorite, now battle-worn and brown
You’d think it still squeaked by the way he pounces down

Old Tom

Old Tom

I've fed Old Tom
for many years
with never any thanks,
not one meow.

He comes at night
with eyes ablaze.
I crack the door
and slide a tin

of Fancy Feast
across the deck
toward him
like a puck.

He hunkers
on the railing till
I lock up.
Then he pounces.

The tin's a mouse,
you see,
and finally
it's time to eat.

Christmas Day

It's Christmas Day, yippee.
I see my presents under the tree.
I run down the stair fast as can be.
I rip open the biggest one that I can see.
It's a little pitbull who thinks she's beastly.
She pounces at me and ends up hitting her head on a branch. She's carefree.
I guess she's a bit of a dummy.
According to her, my shoe's pretty yummy.
I'm so happy...
I love my puppy

The Wrighter's World

You foul beast of Love
– You who pounces on hearts–
Come closer to me one last time!
Dance with me again,
So that when you’ve ripped what you thought my soul
Into shreds of nonexistence,
I will populate the world of pages
With our descendants,
Rhymes and the lack of them,
And you will see
The pen, mightier than your claws!

Bright Birds

Listen to poem:
Deceptive, drowsy,
the gray cat, Tempus, in doldrums
lazes, purring, stretching.
I have watched him:
cunning eyes half-closed,
he stalks bright birds near day lilies.
Wings wet from flights
through sprinklers' sweeps,
birds swoop, glide, flutter.
They light on dry grass,
strut and shake themselves,
are lulled. Then, Tempus
pounces on one bird.
The rest are routed…
And Tempus fugit.

Velvet Sky

The day folds away for the awakening of the night.
Alone stands I, as shadows
Creep over me with fright.
The crisp air sends me on a breeze,
Whispering untold secrets to me.
The stars began to twinkle,
The epitome of all beauty
It is the heart of all that sings
The melancholous harmony.
The thickness of the crystal and velvet sky
pounces my world
As mysteries, deep embedded in my soul
Become untold

A Kitty-Cat Poem

.

Kitty, kitty in my chair,
Sitting there so debonair.

Black cat with shiny eyes,
To cross your path could be unwise.

Playful feline pounces fast,
Jump on people walking past.

Tabby teases a little mouse,
Tauntingly throughout the house.

Oh! Of cats what can I say?
They prowl at night and sleep all day.

Tigers

Through the jungle the tiger moves silently
Like a ghost moving through the trees
It stalks its prey with ease
Then pounces with deadly accuracy

No cage to confine this majestic beast
No zoo to diminish its beauty
No circus to subdue its wild spirit
No whips to put scars upon its back

In the jungle he is king
And is feared by all who dwell within
Tigers running wild, living free
That's the way it was meant to be

A Lone Wolf

A lone wolf sits on a hill
Her black eyes gaze
A prize unaware
Somewhere below
The pack circles

Unaware of her dilemma
She has strayed
Against her mother’s wishes
She continues to play
With the wrong crowd

The lone wolf howls
The pack pounces
Their teeth are set
The scene is repeated
Until one by one

The girls are all seated
The fire crackles
As the moon rises
They circle and howl
And seek their next prey

Life Sucks

Life sucks.
Plucks you from your mother's belly
Weans, silks your skin,
Fondly toys with you
and grows you.

Life sucks.
Slyly beguiles you
To mate, create,
Spit out your genes.
In moments of sin or folly.

Life sucks.
Soon, too soon, it pounces.
And plays a while,
Scratches out your eyes,
Crumples your bones.

Life Sucks.
Finally tiring of you
Life licks out your soul
With greedy slurps,
Smacks its lips, then burps!
