Snow Day
A bitterly cold day entered.
Front gathered hard -- imagine jagged knives.
Looks more northerly, opined pundits,
Quite raw -- snow tires useful.
Very wondrous; xerophytes yearning zocalo....

Northerly Freeze
Spring foiled again by cold air
North westerly breeze unfair
Will the plants survive today?
Red ripe tomatoes soon come our way?

Yesterday
stepping outside into the bright sun
the sound
hear it! geese headed
north
while the star magnolia has
only
begun to open its swollen buds
and
more daffodils' blossoms appear
alas!
could not see any geese in a
V
headed north
only the sighing of pines stirred
by northerly breezes

Leaf Mold
Leaf Mold
Thoughts for 10-27-2016
Soon I’ll be viewing naked trees,
Leaves will lie inactive on the ground.
Moved only by a northerly breeze,
Often betrayed by a rustling sound;
Intermittently, as in years past,
They’ll pause to relax awhile.
That’s when I’ll blow, rake, and mulch,
Into my gardens compost pile;
...

Australia In the Sun
Lonely trees on lonely roadsides
In dusty paddocks scarce water to abide
A hot dry northerly blows from the red centre
Gives no relief from the summer’s measure
Kangaroos lie in the gum tree’s shade
Idling the long hours in a lazy escapade
An emu flock gathers slowly walking across the road
An ancient land in a tough abode.

Ballad
3-10-77
Early childhood footsteps found
On cliffs at sunset time,
Near rolling waves that spray and pound
At the end of foaming gold.
Resting in a rocky chair
While flights are heading Northerly,
I smell the ocean in the air
And watch the surging sea.
The wind it blows into my face
While gulls their courses take,
Calming as the stars appear
And people wishes make....

Don'T Ask
Don't ask lovely Star Magnolia
Nor blueberries' bell blooms
Japanese Magnolia won't tell
Lest quickly seasons assume
Who browned the awesome pink blossoms
Or turned camelia squishy
Was it the brown nervous squirrel
With his dancing tail swishy
It must have been Bobcats at night
Who climbed in blooming trees
Then painted tips with brown markers
Not the northerly breeze
Maybe unfinished???...

What Is It
Northerly _ Breeze
Hollow_ Bamboo
Sings_ Sways
Dances_ Rocks
Zephyr_ Plays
Winter_ Tunes
Put these together;
And a bamboo wind chime hums .
Form is called a Kenning..
This is my first.
It is suppose to be two words per line. The words are suppose to be descriptive about what one is speaking. It is a riddle. It can be a metaphor for something as well....

Twilight Shadows Sigh
Twilight shadows sigh
A breathless hush lingers in
whispered moments sent a’ flutter
upon warm horizons glowing
and a sapphire sky’s mist
afloat on northerly breezes,
delicate dandelion ripples
caress you softly
as twilight shadows sigh
and moonlight shimmers
illuminate the meandering path
where the two of us dream
of the forever we will share
Good night Soupers
Have a great weekend...

Out On the Porch In November
As the northerly chill does blow
And Ginko's yellow leaves lay
Like oil paint orke upon the ground
I wait for that moment of truth
That comes from above
Will my heart be glad that He spoke?
Or will it be ashamed _wearing sack cloth robe?
The red burgundy leaves of the Japanese Maple
Weep like blood longing for His arrival
As the gold of Japanese Magnolia turns to brown
Will it be on a day like today
When he calls come home my child?...

Two To Tango
Two are needed one will not do
Words can do up due to your hue
Only one can’t make a senryu
Shadows of your long eyelashes
Twinkling motives in those sea eyes
Asking me for fountain-splashes
Northerly wind from the old skies
Zen-like moment shines in stanzas
After we put down our brown pen
Sometimes stars come down to join us

The Birch Tree
Cover me with the haze of
Fragmented years,
Let me sleep through this autumn
Where rains greedily devour
Dying leaves,
And streams flow into the rotten silence.
Clothe me with the moss
Which grew in the wrinkles of the forehead,
Make me senseless for the cruel fingers of the northerly wind,
And the silver which dwells
On Venus Hill,
Just leave my eyes naked
To count in them rings of the birch tree,
Which cut down
Our unmeasurable distance....

Seasonal Change
Forms used: Haiku, Diamonte, and Limerick
buds bloom then wither
before fall welcomes winter ~
seasonal changes
spring
lush and green
flowers bud then bloom
summer heat cools in autumn
leaves tumble aground
long before winter's
snow
earth always seems to be reborn in spring
summer is the time when cicada sing
autumn leaves, burnished gold
northerly winds blow cold
snowflakes are crystal gifts winter will bring
...
